The water coming from taps in the Upper Wavecrest area is set to be clean and free from excessive manganese and iron from now on. This follows the official launch of a pilot treatment plant at the Jeffreys Bay Water Treatment Works on Friday. The treatment plant is set to reduce the iron and mangenese content of the water by means of a biological process - bringing an end to the dirty water coming from residents’ taps. According to infrastructure portfolio coun- cillor Patrick Kota, the plant is able to treat 14 litres of water per second and the success will be monitored with the anticipation of ap- plying the process on a larger scale at the treatment works in the future. In addition, due to the increasing demand of water in the area, eleven boreholes were drilled to locate additional water sources. The project furthermore included two boreholes with pumps and all accompanied equipment, as well as the installation of rising main pipe- lines from the boreholes to the water treat- ment works an the installation of new securi- ty fences. ONLY weeks after the very successful St Francis Nauti-cal Festival came to an end, the St Francis Tourism com-mittee is hard at work planning for the 2016 festival.Brian Codling, chairman of the St Francis Tourism

committee, confirmed that the success of this year’s festi-val paved the way for a third event set to take place fromApril 22 to May 1. This event promises to be even biggerand better.“With this in mind, St Francis Tourism will develop

a new look for ourwebsite and tourismmapwith the sup-port of local businesses and the community at large,”says Codling.According to Codling, the popularity of the festival can

be attributed to the broad mix of events and functions

on offer - especially the well-organised sporting eventsincluding the Colour Run and the Nautical Festival Fish-ing Competition.“The whole community got behind the event and most

businesses and shop fronts proudly displayed the NauticalFestival bunting. They furthermore offered specials for theduration of the festival, staged live entertainment or donat-ed prizes for the various competitions,” says Codling.“Youth groups organised volley ball tournaments, and

the food market was a sell-out within two hours.”For more information with regard to advertising or

sponsorship, contact Hettie van der Westhuizen from StFrancis Tourism at 042 294 0076 or send an email to [email protected].

- wat ek dink ’n wonderwerk was - en kon ekweer my selfbeeld werk. Hierdie deel van mylewe was vir my genoeg motivering om ’n be-roep te kies waar ek mense in soortgelyke sit-uasies kan help.“Amoré is ’n pragtige meisie en om weer ’n

Rawsewage flows inHumansdorp

Residents in Kwananzamo in Humansdorp have to endure a huge flow of raw sewage everytime it rains PHOTO:SUPPLIED

RESIDENTS in Kwananzamo in Humansdorphave to endure a huge flow of raw sewage everytime it rains and the Kouga Municipality hasdone little to solve the problem.

DA Member of Parliament for the Kouga, ElzaVan Lingen has raised the issuewith KougaMunic-ipalManagerSidneyFadi onanumberof occasions, but no lasting solution has been implemented.“The Sewage Treatment Plant in Humansdorp

is not even fenced and kids go and play around thewaste water treatment tanks,” said van Lingen.“With people living within 500 m of the Plant,

and zero security, residents are at risk of drown-ing in the tanks.”Below the plant the terrain is an absolutemess,

with the litter blocking the culvert. There is astreamof effluent overflowing from the plant intoan earth dam below and the entire access road isflooded with effluent of dubious quality.“There is a health threat to every person and

animal walking around the premises.Every time I report it to theMunicipalManager,

he unblocks the culvert but does not seek any last-ing solution to the problem,” added Van Lingen.Van Lingen has also requested the latest copy

of the Treatment Plant’s water chemical and bac-teriological laboratory analysis report from theDepartment of Water Affairs. There is a real risk that raw sewage could end

up in the upper reaches of the Seekoei Riverwhich flows down to the coast and meets the seaat Aston Bay. An independent test conducted bythe DA in 2012, revealed traces of ecoli at themouth of the Seekoei River. It was not confirmed where the source of the

pollution was.

Thys Potgie-

ringbed) isuitgekap, gevolglik sal diehoringsnooit weer teruggroei nie.Dr.

natuurreservaat aangebring.

geskakel kanword, is 078 696 9494.

As jy nie Chinees ken nie, moenie worrynie.
