THE St Francis Bay waste site is to be closedandreplacedbyanewdrop-off zone fromJune2016.

As part of the preparations, Kouga Munici-pality would like to appeal to communities torefrain from dumping garden refuse, alsofrom bush-clearing, at the old site, as it canno longer be accommodated.

All garden refuse is now to be takendirectlyto the regional waste site at Humansdorp.

Kouga Municipal Manager Sidney Fadisays work on the new drop-off zone started inFebruary following consultation with the af-fected communities as to its location. The new drop-off zone will be situated on

erf 745/72 at the entrance to Sea Vista fromthe R330.It will initially serve as a temporary stor-

age space. Residents will be able to disposeof building rubble and domestic waste on-ly, which will then be transported by the

municipality to the Humansdorp wastesite. The drop-off zone will be fenced and a ramp

will be put in place, with skip bins in whichthe refusewill be stored.Agate controllerwillbe stationed at the site for security controland to assist residents.

Fadi says the plan was to expand the drop-off zone into a fully-fledged transfer station;however, this process could take up to twoyears because of the stringent environmental

processes that must be followed.“The municipality is working closely with

the Department of Environmental Affairs soas to ensure that Kouga’s waste sites and pro-cesses meet requirements.

“We would like to apologise to residents forany inconvenience they may have to facewhile improvements areunderway.Theworkis, however, critical to ensure the long-termsustainability of our waste sites and area asa whole.”

PLANNED upgrades for the Tsitsikammasection of the Garden Route National Parkto the tune of R17 million, are set to com-mencewithin twoweeks at the StormsRiverRest Camp.

The upgrades are scheduled to start withthe entrance gate and administration build-ing. The renovation of the gate aims to intro-duce a far simpler structure and system forvisitors entering the park’s main gate.

A temporary roadwas constructed recent-ly to allow visitors to access the park with-out hindrance. The gate area will be cor-doned off, while work on the main gate pro-gresses to allow easy access for buses andvehicles.

Noise levels are expected to remain nor-mal, and parking space will not be affected

at all by any of the construction work. Noheavy machinery will be used and all workis on existing footprint.Other upgrades that are part of the R17

million project include a new office block, development around the Big Tree and therestaurant area.

“We have structured construction workwith the visitor in mind. All work will ad-here to environmental legislation, and stan-dards and visitor experience and safety willnot be compromised,” saysAreaManager forthe Tsitsikamma section, Lesley AnnMeyer.

The Tsitsikamma Garden Route NationalPark is amongSouthAfrica’smost lovedNa-tional Parks for its picturesque gorges, rocky coastline, dense mystical forests andrich biodiversity.

FEEDING pigeons seems like a relativelysimple proposition. However, choosing the best pigeon feed

does require a bit of understanding as itrelates to how the pigeon digests and in-gests food. Not all pigeon foods are createdequal, andmanypigeon owners have taken

to creating their own brand of pigeon dietin order to compensate for the often mis-guided quality of commercial pigeon foods.Readmore about pigeon feed and feeding

Laerskool Gamtoosvallei beskikbaar.

The 32yearold Godfrey Mahote from Ocean View, better known as 2PAK, now has twostateoftheart hearingaids changing his life for the better. After the first hearing aidwas donated by a good Samaritan responding to a plea on Facebook, Hear Clearlycontacted OTICON who generously donated a second hearingaid to match that of the first. The Jeffreys Bay Animal Rescue Sanctuary, where 2PAK works as a volunteer, undertook tocover the costs of the batteries as long as required. According to Ian White from ARS,2PAK is a different person from the isolated and mostly bemused young man he first met.“He is lively and interested in everything around him, and he is never short of a word.”They are now looking for a handsfree kit for his phone and a special WiFi microphone hecan use when there is lots of noise.

afgelope twee jaar tydens ’n broeiseisoen in-gebring is,” sê Juanita Raath, rehabilitasie-koördineerder.

THE final five surfers to tackle the waves at the JBUSupertrial presented by RVCA, have been an-nounced.The final surfers to battle it out for the coveted wild-

card entry into the JBay Open of Surfing are BrandonJackson, Warren Dean, Greg Emslie, Steven Sawyer, and Matt Bromley.Brandon Jackson from Durban is a consistent per-

former at Supertubes, and has proven himself outthere many times. A runner-up place in 2013 (to GregEmslie) has ensured that he is always on the event or-ganisers’ radar. The powerful natural-footer has oftennamed Supers as one of his favourite waves and is al-ways a fierce competitor.Supertubes local Warren Dean needs very little

introduction when it comes to surfing performan-ces at Supertubes. A former Billabong Challenge fi-nalist, along with multiple results and highlycharged performances on his home turf, Warrenknows the wave like few others, and his local know-ledge gives him a strong advantage over many com-petitors.East London’smost successful competitive surfer

Greg Emslie is also a perennial standout at Supers, winning the event in 2013, and posting a numberof good results out there in professional as well asamateur events throughout the years. With hishard-earned experience at Championship Tour le-vel surfing, Greg is a focused surfer and savvy com-petitor.“The JBU Supertrial is a very special event, and

I always look forward to it,” says Emslie. “I haven’thad a good run the last two years and I’m reallyhoping that this year is my year. The thing aboutsurfing a contest at Supers is that you can’t rushthings out there. There is a lot of rhythm at play, and you can’t force the issue. All the guys in the

event are really good surfers too, so you cannotcatch the poor waves if youwant to advance. The on-ly way to surf at Supers is to relax and wait for thegood ones.”Local JBay goofy-footer Steven Sawyer is always a

standoutwhenSupers is firing, and is a solid andconfi-dent backhand tube rider. He has a great repertoireof moves on his backhand, and is also a strong and de-termined competitor.MattBromley fromCapeTown is often inJBaychas-

ing swells, and knows the Supers lineup well. Askilled tube rider, Bromley likes it when the wavesget solid. The contest organisers have decided not to name an

alternate list, but to leave it to the day. Should a slotbecome available, it could be open to anyone who ispresent on the day and who really wants to surf. Thecontest organisers will make the decisions on the dayas to which of these surfers possibly get a chance tosurfThe JBU Supertrial presented by RVCA invited sur-

fers are: Ricky Basnett, Calvin Goor, Mikey February,Slade Prestwich, Ryan Payne, Shaun Payne, MattMcGillivray, Dylan Lightfoot, Davey Van Zyl, SeanHolmes, Dale Staples, Beyrick De Vries, Shane Sykes,Sebastian Williams, Joshe Faulkner, Brandon Jack-son, Warren Dean, Greg Emslie, Matt Bromley andSteven Sawyer.

. The waiting period for the JBU Supertrial is fromJune 1 - 12, with one full day needed to surf the eventto completion.

. The JBU Supertrial forms part of the JBay Winter-fest, the sportingandmusic festival thatwill takeplacein Jeffreys Bay from July 6 - 17. The event annuallyattracts thousands of residents and visitors.

Final 5 surfers announced for JBU Supertrial
