he community of Monte Vista is up in

arms over the proposed erection of a

cellphone tower in the yard of a crche.

The proposal seeks the rezoning of a por-

    Inbrekers in dieBothasig-omgewing teiken

    nou motorhuise.

    S s lt.kol. Patrick Jacobs, stasiebevel-

voerder van die polisie in Bothasig.

Volgens hom wil dit voorkom of motor-

    huise nou sagte teikens word.

Mense beveilig nie hul motorhuise soos

hul huise nie. Amper geen motorhuis het

diefwering of n alarmstelsel nie, so dit is

maklik vir skurke om in te gaan. Gewoon-

Volgens hom weet skelms hoeveel waar-

devolle goed in motorhuise gestoor word.

Buiten motors, stoor mense ook gras-

snyers, fietse, gereedskap en alleswat hulle

nie in die huis kan bre nie. Dit is ook so

dat die deure van motorhuise buite hooraf-

stand van diemeeste huise is. As daar inge-

ongewoon wees om diefwering by jou mo-

torhuis aan te bring nie. Ons moet dit so

    moeilikmoontlikmaak vir die diewe omby

ons eiendomme in te breek. Dit sal ook die

polisie baie help as mense net hul motor-

huisdeure agter hulle toemaak, s Jacobs.

I know there is a lot of controversy

    surrounding the erection of cell-

phone towers on the premises of or

close to ECDs. As a department we

have not seen hard data about the

dangers of the towers. If someone ap-

proached us with hard evidence of

the dangers, we will engage and take

action. All we have heard is anecdo-

    tal evidence, but nothing concrete,

says Ngobese. He says it is up to the

owner or manager of the facility.

What happens at schools is that ad-

vertising boards are erected to help

as an extra income stream. Not all

are in favour of that. From our side

it is important that the safety of the

children is looked after, says Ngo-

bese. At the time of going to print the

City of Cape Town had not respond-

    ed.

    Gemmerbier vol skop

    BRENDEN RUITER

    @ruitervaniewind

    W

as daar nou alkohol in die gemmer-

    bier of nie?

Dit is die vraag n n man van

Monte Vista beweer hy het dronk geword

van gemmerbier wat veronderstel was om

    geen alkohol te bevat nie.

Shaun Anderson s hy het op 9 Desember

verlede jaar by die plaaslike kruideniers-

    merkat-gemmerbier gekoop. Toe ek dit

drink, het ek dronk gevoel. Ek het drank op-

gegee omdat ek allergies is vir alkohol. Dit

maak my siek en toe ek die gemmerbier

drink, het ek vreeslik siek geword. Daar is

ook ander allergie, maar die eenvir alkohol

is erg. Omdat ek so siek was, het ek n hele

dag se produksie verloor, s Anderson.

Volgens hom is hy bang iemand anders

    kandie gemmerbier drinkendronkdaarvan

word. Wat as n kind daarvan drink, in die

swembad spring en verdrink? wonder An-

derson. Hy s hy sukkel reeds sedert verlede

Hy was

in n onderonsie met die eienaar betrokke,

    s Van Eyssen.

Ons

As

die produk byvoorbeeld in n motor gelos

    word, kan alkoholvorming plaasvind, s

Nieuwoudt. Hy s hulle maak so 12 000 liters

meer as twee jaar gaan oud-inwo-

    in 2014naWolwerivier, verderaan langsdie

N7, verskuif is. Die grondwat hulle terugge-

kry het, gaan tot hul voordeel ontwikkel

    word.

    Toe diemense destydsweggetrekhet,was

daar groot ongelukkigheid oor hulle na n

    afgele plek sonder infrastruktuur gestuur

    word. Hulle het sogenaamde beginnerpak-

ke van die Stad Kaapstad gekry, waarmee

    hulle nuwe huise moes bou.

    Werk verloor

nie. Die huise is kleiner as waaraan ons

gewoond is. Ons word soos diere ingedruk

in plekkies wat ons nie kan akkommodeer

nie.

    staan. Daar ismensewatmaaknet soos hul-

aanbou. In n poging ommy agterplaas gro-

    hul erwe onwettig groter maak.

    Klagtes

bring hul klagtes na my toe.

nale gaan. Hoe gaan dit lyk as elkeen sy of

haar eie ding doen? Ek sal voorstel mense

    sers by Richmondpark naby Richwood

    eenkoms ismet n ontwikkelaar aangegaan.

    Die ontwikkelaar, Atterbury Group, sal

die grond tot voordeel van die begunstigdes

    ontwikkel.

    Intussen het die Richmondpark-ontwik-

    kelingsmaatskappybegin omvaardigheids-

ouens elders werk gekry.

leiding. Richmondpark gaan as n ligte ny-

    werheidsgebied en sakekern ontwikkel

word.

    kelingsmaatskappy, infrastruktuur rond-

    om die ontwikkeling gaan opgradeer.

    DESIRE RORKE

    @dezzierorke

    W

    idespread concerns were raised by

    residents following the second reg-

    istration weekend, prompting the

    DA to investigate.

In a letter sent from the DA head office

to allward councillors lastweek, itwas stat-

ed that the IEC (Independent Electoral

Commission) had confirmed that they have

not removed a single voter or information

of a voter, from the voters roll.

According to the IEC a voter who has

been verified and placed on the voters roll,

cannot be removed without an audit trail

indicating who removed that voter and the

    reasons for the removal.

Only a voter who has applied for de-reg-

istration in terms of section 10 of the Elect-

oral Act, may be removed completely from

the voters roll, the letter stated.

Chaos ensued after anSMSwent out from

the IEC to about 5 million voters, request-

ing voters to update their address informa-

tion. Voters became concerned about their

status on the voters roll and this panic in-

    creasedafter reports in themainstreamme-

dia when Glen Mashinini, chairperson of

the IEC, warned that more than two-thirds

of the voters roll could be disenfranchised

due to the absence of sufficient address in-

    formation.

    TygerBurger was flooded with com-

plaints from readers, of which some were

    escalated to ward councillors.

In most of these complaints, readers say

    their information couldnot be foundonvot-

ers lists at various voting stations.

Carin Brynard, ward councillor for areas

in Brackenfell and Kraaifontein, last week

said there was still much uncertainty

around registration issues and that it was

of the utmost importance that residents ob-

    tain the correct information.

    Answers to important questions voters

    might have:

V I registered during the weekend of

5/6 March, but my information is not

    updated yet?

The IEC is currently experiencing aback-

log with the capturing of data. If your infor-

mation is still outdated on the IEC website

please contact the DAs call centre on

    0861 22 55 32 to assist.

    V If I didnotupdatemyaddress during

one of the two registration weekend,

will I still be able to vote?

Nobody may be taken off the voters role,

irrespective of the address or lack of an ad-

dress on the voters roll. Currently the IEC

has confirmed that all people currently on

the voters roll will be able to vote on 3 Au-

gust. The Constitutional Court will on 9

May hear arguments regarding the ad-

dresses of voters on the voters roll and the

impact that will have on the validity of the

    voters roll.

V Can I still update my address infor-

mation or re-register for the Local Gov-

    ernment Elections for 2016?

If you would like to re-register in a new

voting district or update your information,

you may do so by taking your ID document

to your nearest IEC office during office

    hours.

VHow would I know where my new

    Voting District is?

You can check if you are registered in the

    correct voting district on www.elec-

    tions.org.za.

Alternatively, you can send an SMS with

your ID number to 32810 or call

    0861 22 55 32.

    Geeste sweef hier soekend rond

    ANDR BAKKES

    @andrebakkes

    S

    rondsweef.

Volghomop jou eie risiko, want in eenvan

    pasgebore baba voed.

Hierdie spookstories van die ou Amoria-

    kraaminrigting inParowhet net so fassinee-

    rendgeraak soosdie oorsponklikevraagvan

    as n private vroedvrou-inrigting.

Op 2 Maart in die berig Kraaminrigting

    nou n gastehuis isTygerBurger verkeerde-

    huis was nie Amoria-kraaminrigting nie.

    daarna.

Dit is om hierdie rede dat die

presiese adres van die huis nie

    bekendgemaak sal word nie.

Party sien dit en party nie ...

Die geeste vang jou as jy alleen

is of rustig verkeer, s Rup-

    ping met n hees stem.

    Een van my vriende wat

    daar oorgeslaap het, het een-

keer verskrik vir my ges hy

het gedink dis ek wat daar in-

stap met n rooi das. Ek is nie

bang vir die man met die rooi

    das nie.

Toe Fourie die storie van die

man met die rooi das en swart

    pak aan n gewese Parow-inwo-

ner vertel het, het die man ges

    hierdie kleredrag was gewild

    indiemiddel vandie laaste eeu,

want dit is wat party spoorweg-

    werkers gedra het.

    Ruppinggaanvoort: Hystap

asof hy iets soek! Altyd soe-

    kend. Dis omtrent n gedoente,

jong!

    huis.

    krematorium...

    MONIQUE DUVAL

    H

    e could have killed me.

These are the chilling words of

an elderly woman from Rugby as

she recounts the details of how a man

conned his way into her home.

Betty Botha says her ordeal played out

over the lastweek and it all startedwhen she

received an odd phone call from a man

    named Benjamin.

The man knew intimate details about the

elderly woman and asked her about pottery

    she sold.

    Bothas husband recently passed away

and she says the man told her he was from

the divisional council andneeded to check

    her electricity meter.

He randomly showed up at her home on

Monday 11 April shortly after noon,

driving a white bakkie, and asked to inspect

the meter. Botha says he told her he needed

to check it to ensure that as a pensioner, she

received a rebate offered by the City of Cape

    Town.

He asked for a ladder and I gave it to him.

He stood on it and looked at the box. He then

toldme to get on the ladder and look at some-

thing while he checked the plugs.

Each time he told me to count to ten. I

thought something was wrong, but didnt

    say anything.

Theman quickly left and Botha locked the

gate behind him. But she soon noticed some-

thing was wrong in her Farnworth Road

home and went into her bedroom. To her

horror she realised all her late husbands

    clothes had been stolen.

Bill died so recently and I have not put

his things away. Its still fresh to me and I

just needed some time. Now all his clothes

are gone, she says, fighting back tears.

Upset she went to her bed and found her

jewellery box and a cardboard box had been

tampered with. Here she discovered more

than 10 rings and bangles her husband gave

her as gifts over the years had been stolen.

He knew I liked watches and I had just

recently had all the batteries replaced. The

man took it and now they are gone. Each one

had a specialmeaning andhe just took them.

I am sure he will go and sell it.

    While trying to comprehendwhathad just

happened, Botha went through her hus-

bands belongings to see if anything elsewas

missing and noticed a diving knife used by

her husband had been removed from its hol-

    ster.

It was always there and my husband

didnt use it for a long time. Just the other

day I saw it had gathered dust and after Ben-

jamin left and I realised he was just here to

steal, I thought about it. The knife had been

taken out and I think if I had disturbed him,

he would have used that knife. It has not

been used or moved in years and I believe

he took it out. He could have killed me.

Visibly shaken and upset about her hus-

bands belongings, Botha shares the pain of

losing her husband and the items which

    marked memories of their marriage.

The elderly woman displays her courage

as she straightens up and says: But I

    thought Imust share this withTygerBurger.

Please alert other elderly people about

this. I believe this man saw someone he

could take advantage of. I hope people will

take note of this warning and be more care-

    ful.

    Meanwhile Milnerton Police confirmed

the case and say no similar incidents have

    been reported. Police spokespersonWarrant

    Officer DaphneOReilly advises residents to

check the identification of any person claim-

ing to be an official before allowing them in-

    to their home.

If it is an official person they must have

a form of identification. Also phone the

council or company to make sure that there

are people doing the rounds to check on elec-

tricity meters. Ensure that you have a good

quality safety gate installed at the entrance

    door.

. Last week Kleinvlei police advised eld-

erly residents in Blackheath to be aware of

    fake council and Eskom workers.

They issued a warning in TygerBurgers

Kuils River edition after two seniors living

in the same street were targeted by fake in-

    spectors.
