ie Durbanville-begraafplaas gaan ge-

buk onder dakloses wat daar drink,

slaap en op die grafte ontlas.

Chris Villet van Table View s hy besoek

gereeld die grafte van sy ouers, grootouers

en ander familielede hier, maar die stank

van menslike afval het so erg geword dat hy

niemeer familie en vriende na die grafte wil

neem nie.

My familie se grafte is reg by die klimop-

begroeide heining wat die begraafplaas van

Durbanweg skei. Hier het tot onlangs baie

mense geslaap, maar die munisipaliteit het

dit nou oopgesnoei. Nou is dit n toilet en

mense stoor hulle besittings hier, s hy.

Onderhoudplan

Sy oupa en ouma se graf is langs n draai-

hekkie waar n mens al sedert sy kinderdae

enige tyd toegang kon kry van Durbanweg

af, s Villet. Hoewel n bord by die hoofin-

gang uitstip dat die begraafplaas van 09:00

tot 16:00 oop is, kan enigiemand dag of nag

daar ingaan.

Villet s dit lyk ook vir hom asof dit net

omtrent elke vierde maand skoongemaak

word en daar is nooit n sekerheidswag in

sig nie, maar Belinda Walker, burgemees-

terskomiteelid vir gemeenskapsdienste en

spesiale projekte, s daar is n maandelikse

onderhoudplan vir die begraafplaas.

Rondloperyvanhaweloses is n probleem

by baie van die Stad se begraafplase, omdat

hulle so groot is en verskeie ingange het. Om

n oog op die hele area te hou, is baie moei-

lik.

Sy s in n poging om rondlopery hok te

slaan by hierdie begraafplaas, is die ou toi-

letgeboue beveilig.

Villet s egter daar word nie na genoegsa-

me oplossings gesoek nie.

Diemunisipaliteit is al siek en sat vanmy

geklahieroor.Miljoene randewordaangraf-

stene gespandeer en die onderhoud en seku-

riteit is so swak hier.

Sakelui raadop

Skaars n kilometer van die begraafplaas

is Voortrekkerweg-sakelui net so raadop

soos Villet oor haweloses wat voor hulle

winkels uitkamp. Di gedeelte is besig om

ontwikkel te word in die veelbesproke Pam-

poenkraal-projek, maar Pierre du Toit, een

van diewinkeleienaars,meen al wat di ont-

wikkeling enigiemand in die sak gaanbring,

is dat dit mr aantreklik vir haweloses

gaan word.

Loraine Roux, wat n skoonheidsalon in

Voortrekkerweg besit, s as sy saans huis

toe gaan, tel sy tot 45 slapende mense wat op

die voorstoepe van ondernemings l.

Hulle sien die polisiekantoor hier naby

as n plek van veiligheid, daarom dat hulle

almal hiernatoe kom, s Du Toit.

Ek weet die probleem is baie groter as

wat ons besef. Dit is n maatkaplike pro-

bleem wat ons almal raak, en daar is nie n

eenvoudige oplossing nie.

The City of Cape Town has allocated

R210 000 in grant-in-aid funding towards se-

veral child care facilities and other organi-

sations in the Kraaifontein and Brackenfell

areas.

An amount of R35 000 had been assigned

to Cudley Educare Centre, R15 000 to Lusan-

da Educare Centre, R15 000 to Sinethemba

Educare Centre and R15 000 to Kraaifontein

Actice, a senior citizens club.

In Brackenfell, Teahmo (an organisation

that provides social support to vulnerable

and homeless people) received R100 000.

The Voortrekkers, an organisation that

provides youth with important life- and

work-related skills received R30 000.

The grants were approved on the recom-

mendation of Subcouncil 2, which includes

Wallacedene, Scottsdene, Brackenfell and

Kraaifontein.

City opens its coffers and helps NGOs

he Tygerberg Hills Lions Clubs new

president joined the other presidents

of zone 3 for an induction breakfast at

RamasabiGuestHouse inPanorama recent-

ly.

The clubs represented were Durbanville,

Table View, Milnerton, Brackenfell, De

Grendel and Merriman Lion and the De Ty-

ger Leo Club.

The Tygerberg Hills Lions Club is busy

with theirWinterOutreachSupport and are

collecting blankets and duvets, specially for

night shelters.

The club is celebrating its 15th year of ser-

vice and would like to invite people who are

interested to get involvedwith servicework
