We are so grateful to our church family for the abundance of donations to Conway Cares during Strike Hunger month! If you brought food donations this morning, you can drop them in the bins in the Welcome Center (the lobby of the Edington Ministry Center) or under the Angel Wing, between the Sanctuary and Allen Hall. Thank you!

Looking for a community where you can lead and connect with others? Our Chancel Choir is a great place to make friends and find your voice. The Summer Choir is now open any Sunday and you can join in for the morning. Just meet at 7:30am in the Rehearsal Room, on the first floor of the Edington Ministry Center.

Thank you for coming to First Presbyterian Church of Orlando this morning! So glad youre here. We worship together as a church family in four services on Sundays: Traditional worship in the Sanctuary at 8:30 and 11am, and Genesis worship in Lee Fellowship Hall at 9:45 and 11am. If youd like to connect and learn more about this church, visit our Legacy Room adjacent to the Sanctuary, or you can visit fpco.org/guest.

Means of Grace is part of our School of Discipleship, taught by Rev. Jack Peebles, and is an exploration of spiritual disciplines. Join in at 9:45am in room 310 of the Edington Ministry Center. Each week will feature teaching and time to actually practice the disciplines in class; topics like prayer, meditation, service, study and more. And every Sunday is a stand alone lesson, so jump in! Learn more at fpco.org/smart.

  • As we have mentioned in the past few weeks, the opening part of worship is very vertical in its focus, that is, our attention is directed toward God rather than toward us. Most weeks there is an Organ Praise following the Ascription or some other words of praise to God. In the Psalms we read of pipes being used to sing praise to God. We take that literally, and so Josiah or a guest organist will use the skills God has given them to stand in on our behalf to offer an exclamation point of praise to God. Like everything else in these opening minutes of worship, this is all for Gods pleasure. Let the hands and feet of the organist become your own hands and feet and vicariously identify with the heaven bound sounds of the pipes. As the worshipers in the Old Testament vicariously identified with the sacrifices being offered by laying their hands on the head of the animal, so we can identify with this act of worship during the Organ Praise. The psalm ends with Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Its the organist that moves the breath of the organ that blows the pipes that praises the Lord! Hallelujah! - Dr. Dan Sharp
