Thank you for coming to First Presbyterian Church of Orlando this morning! So glad you’re here. This Week

Many of us are busy, and struggle to find consistent time with God. Because we understand that, the church works hard to provide space, time and leadership in prayer. Be with us for Evening Prayer, Wednesday, March 18 at 6pm in Lee Fellowship Hall and set aside this hour for guided prayer and rest in God’s presence.

There will be a Congregational Meeting during the 11am Traditional Worship hour on March 22, to vote on the Congregational Nominating Committee and to Ordain and Install Quino Martinez to the 2017 Class of Elders.

Crown Ministry founder Howard Dayton will be at First Pres on March 22 to give an overview of the upcoming Compass Class: Navigating Your Finances God’s Way. Howard Dayton has helped thousands of people discover financial freedom through Crown Ministries and Compass, and we’re excited to learn from him as we kickoff this 7-week course at 9:45am on Sunday mornings. fpco.org/compass

The Women’s Cancer Support Group will meet on Wednesday, March 18 in Room 340 of the Edington Ministry Center, from Noon-1pm. A light lunch is provided. If you are preparing for or currently undergoing treatment, or are a cancer survivor, we encourage you to join us. For more information, please contact Linda McCallister at x1159 or email [email protected].

Heart of the City Foundation is now accepting applications for scholarships from graduating seniors, college students and seminary students. Applications and all supporting documents are due by April 1, 2015. As you enter Lee Fellowship Hall on Sunday mornings, you’ll notice the wooden cross in the Georgian Room will have a new element added each Sunday; one that helps tell the story of Jesus’ final days before the resurrection. (See Dan’s note at right.) As we do every year, you’ll also notice that the band will decrease in size by one member each week, and the vivid colors that we use in Genesis will slowly fade to black and white during Lent. We do this symbolically, to visually reiterate the simplicity of this season. Lent is about reflection, removing unnecessary distractions, and strengthening our relationship with Jesus. - Wil Brown

Notes

Page 5: 03.15.15 Bulletin | First Presbyterian Church of Orlando

On this fourth Sunday in Lent we notice the crown of thorns being added to the cross. It is a further reminder of the reality of Christ’s suffering in our place. The thorns are a stark and painful reminder of the reality of our own sin. What we deem inconsequential, caused the death of our Savior. We have taken a couple penitential psalms and combined them with the prayer song, Gbemi Yesu (Lift me Jesus), as we enter an extended time of confessional prayer in worship this morning. This season of confession and repentance draws us to think on Christ’s great love for His children as reflected in today’s anthem, What Wondrous Love Is This? We see also the depth of the Savior’s commitment as He defeated the devil when tempted. Jesus would not be pushed off course of His mission to redeem the entire created order. We also are lead in the early part of worship by our children’s choir. - Dr. Dan Sharp
