OUR FATHER WHO ART IN HEAVEN, HALLOWED BE THY NAME. THY KINGDOM COME, THY WILL BE DONE, ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN. GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD; AND FORGIVE US OUR DEBTS, AS WE FORGIVE OUR DEBTORS; AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL. FOR THINE IS THE KINGDOM AND THE POWER AND THE GLORY, FOREVER. AMEN .

WELCOME!

NEXT STEPSHumbly serving one another and our community is one of the ways we share the love of Jesus and illustrate our own redemption. You have unique gifts and skills that God wants to use, and there are lots of opportunities to get connected with ministries that serve the poor, our church and the City of Orlando. THIS WEEK

Thank you for your donations for Strike Hunger month in July! Together we collected more than 500 pounds of food for our friends at Conway Cares. With the food from this week, Conway Cares will assemble 300 weekend snack packs to give to hungry students in local elementary schools. If you would like to help sort and pack some of the food, email Jeff Revels at [email protected].

Thank you for coming to First Presbyterian Church of Orlando this morning! So glad you’re here. We worship together as a church family in four services on Sundays: Traditional worship in the Sanctuary at 8:30 and 11am, and Genesis worship in Lee Fellowship Hall at 9:45am and 11am. If you’d like to connect and learn more about this church, one of our leaders will be available at the front of the room after worship, or you can visit fpco.org/guest.

Women Engaged, the ministry to women at First Pres, is excited to welcome our new Associate Pastor of Congregational Care, Rev. Becky Davis. Women Engaged will host a welcome reception on Tuesday, August 12 in the King Parlor. Join us from 7:00-8:30pm for light refreshments, learn more about Becky, and help make her feel welcome. WE hope to see you there!

If you filled out a 2013-2014 Commitment Card last fall, look for yours in the mail soon. Cards have been sealed and kept at the church; the contents are part of a personal commitment between you and God.

NOTES

Proverbs 30:7-9 7 “Two things I ask of you, Lord; do not refuse me before I die: 8 Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread.9 Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.”

Music has always been a key part of worship. Often there are stories of how hymns came into being, a kind of Paul Harvey “Rest of the Story.” The much loved Trust and Obey has a story behind it. The evangelist, Dwight L. Moody, was leading a series of meetings in Brockton, Massachusetts. In one of the meetings, a young man was moved and stood to give his testimony, saying, “I am not quite sure-but I am going to trust, and I am going to obey.” A Presbyterian minister, Rev. J.H. Sammis, jotted that sentence down. It stuck in his mind and he wrote a poem. He sent the poem to Dr. Daniel Towner, so it could be set to music. Towner, who later became the head of the music department at the Moody Bible Institute, struggled to find the right tune. He eventually threw it away in the wastebasket one night. His wife found the manuscript in the morning, thought it had great promise, and persuaded him to work on it some more. She was right. Trust and Obey has become one of the best-loved hymns of all time. - Dr. Dan Sharp

*Passing of the Peace St. Paul always greeted with the words, “The peace of God be with you.” This is an appropriate way to greet fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, and so we say, “The peace of the Lord be with you” and respond, “And also with you.” We then pass this greeting of peace to one another. At the passing of the peace we should earnestly desire God’s peace upon each person we greet.

WELCOME!

WOMEN ENGAGED is excited to offer a study this fall on the Old Testament historical book of Nehemiah, which will correspond with Dr. Swanson’s Fall sermon series.

Nehemiah set out to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Yet in the physical restoration of this great city, he also restored the people from ruin and despair to a new walk with God.

This ten-week study series (offered 3 times throughout the week) will begin on Monday, September 15 or Thursday, September 18 and concludes the week before Thanksgiving.

Monday morning, Monday evening and Thursday morning sessions will be offered, and morning sessions include child care for infants through kindergarten at no additional cost.

The cost is $30 and includes the study guide.

REGISTER by SEPTEMBER 8 at fpco.org/register or pick up a form in the lobby of the Edington Ministry Center.
