One of the ways we show God’s love for the city of Orlando is on ServeDay, happening March 14. Pick your project online at ourserveday.com, and bring your friends and family along. Enjoy a free lunch from Four Rivers and a free (beautifully designed) t-shirt. If you’ve already signed up, you can pick your t-shirt up this morning in the Grand Hall, adjacent to the Sanctuary and outside Lee Fellowship Hall. Sign up by March 10!

Crown Ministry founder Howard Dayton will be at First Pres on March 22 to give an overview of the upcoming Compass Class: Navigating Your Finances God’s Way. Howard Dayton has helped thousands of people discover financial freedom through Crown Ministries and Compass, and we’re excited to learn from him as we kickoff this 7-week course at 9:45am on Sunday mornings. fpco.org/compass

Don’t forget to submit your Easter Dedications at fpco.org/dedications or by picking up a form in the lobby of the Edington Ministry Center. Dedications in honor or in memory of a loved one are printed in the Easter bulletin, and today is the deadline to have yours included.

As you enter Lee Fellowship Hall on Sunday mornings, you’ll notice the wooden cross in the Georgian Room will have a new element added each Sunday; one that helps tell the story of Jesus’ final days before the resurrection. (See Dan’s note at right.) As we do every year, you’ll also notice that the band will decrease in size by one member each week, and the vivid colors that we use in Genesis will slowly fade to black and white during Lent. We do this symbolically, to visually reiterate the simplicity of this season. Lent is about reflection, removing unnecessary distractions, and strengthening our relationship with Jesus. - Wil Brown

Notes

Page 5: 03.8.15 Bulletin | First Presbyterian Church of Orlando

Each week during this season of Lent, you’ll notice that there is a different item hung on the cross. There is the money bag reminding us of the hideous betrayal of One who had washed Judas’ feet only minutes before. Last week we added the huge nails that were driven in Jesus’ hands and feet, transfixing Him to the cross. Today the crown of thorns further underscores the mockery and pain Christ bore on our behalf. Sometimes we may be tempted to think we’re simply reading about an historical event that happened a long time ago, failing to realize the reality of Christ’s sacrifice and present day ramifications of that act. The crucifixion happened to a human being who also happened to be God’s own Son. Think about it. The King of kings was crucified by His own subjects. The opening hymn is sung by subjects who have been redeemed by the One their sins sent to the cross. As those very people, let us sing our worship! - Dr. Dan Sharp
