Take time to remember the scope and significance of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and keep a vertical focus. Be with us for Holy Week as we honor God and reflect on the events leading up to Christ’s resurrection, during several special worship services: Weekday Noon Meditations in the Reformation Chapel, Maundy Thursday Communion & Worship in Lee Fellowship Hall on April 2 at 6:30pm, and Good Friday Worship in the Sanctuary on April 3 at 6:30pm. fpco.org/holy

TodayThere will be a Congregational Meeting during the 11am Traditional Worship hour this morning, to vote on the Congregational Nominating Committee and to Ordain and Install Quino Martinez to the 2017 Class of Elders.

Ladies, be with us for the 2nd Annual Women Engaged Prayer Retreat, Saturday, April 11, 9am-12pm, in the Reformation Chapel. This year’s retreat will offer you much-needed time of solitude and relaxation. WE will join together in Reformation Chapel as a united group of women to worship, pray and seek the Lord though personal prayer exercises, designed to help you refocus on God. Friends are welcome! The retreat and childcare are free, but registration is required at fpco.org/we.

Heart of the City Foundation is now accepting applications for scholarships from graduating seniors, college students and seminary students. Losing Our Lives

Congregational Meeting (11:00)

Assisting in Worship: Bret Allen and Wil Brown.

As you enter Lee Fellowship Hall on Sunday mornings, you’ll notice the wooden cross in the Georgian Room will have a new element added each Sunday; one that helps tell the story of Jesus’ final days before the resurrection. (See Dan’s note at right.) As we do every year, you’ll also notice that the band will decrease in size by one member each week, and the vivid colors that we use in Genesis will slowly fade to black and white during Lent. We do this symbolically, to visually reiterate the simplicity of this season. Lent is about reflection, removing unnecessary distractions, and strengthening our relationship with Jesus. - Wil Brown

Notes

As we look at the cross, the instrument of execution, we are once again reminded of the brutality, pain, and unimaginable love expressed by Christ on that instrument of death. The robe reminds us of the sheer mockery Christ endured when the soldiers put a robe on Jesus, after they had beaten Him and then “Hailed the King of the Jews.” With the crown of thorns, the whip, the nails, and the cruelty of betrayal in being sold for thirty pieces of silver by one of His disciples, we are again drawn to the image of a loving Savior. Though we see these objects hanging on a cross in our sanctuary, similar pieces were used in a real event that took place in human history. The story of Christ’s death and resurrection is true. In John Bunyan’s classic, The Pilgrim’s Progress, “Christian” and “Faithful” traveled to Vanity Fair. As they were accosted to purchase the things of this world, their response was powerful: “We buy the Truth.” Our worship is based on this three-fold greatest truth, “Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.” All hail the power of Jesus’ name! - Dr. Dan Sharp
