You will notice that on some Sundays there is no hymn

number listed for the hymn we sing and only the text is

on the screen. There are a couple of different reasons

this occurs. (It is not a mistake in the bulletin!) When

nothing is listed where the hymn number usually goes,

it means that we are singing a different text than the

one in the hymnal. Nearly all of our text changes are

made because we choose to use the original text

setting, the one we all are most familiar with or have

memorized. It removes some of the awkwardness when

singing very familiar hymns. On different occasions, the

hymn text is on the screen, but the bulletin says Tune

No. 435 even though we are singing the text printed

in the hymnal. The reason is that we are singing a

different tune than the one printed with that text. At theName of Jesus  (which we are singing today) is suchan example. Sometimes we wed a familiar tune ( Likea River Glorious ) to a less familiar text ( At the Nameof Jesus ). This practice enables us to broaden ourhymn base and become familiar with more hymns. For

those of you who read the notes as you sing, it can

be awkward when we are singing a different tune than

what is on the page! Hence, we list the Tune Number in

the bulletin. And of course, there are those times when

we simply learn both the tune and text of a new hymn.
