As we conclude Christmastide in a couple of days (thetwelve days of Christmas ends on January 6th, Epiphany),

we are reminded of the broader scope of the gospel.Historically, Epiphany is an older celebration thanthe Nativity on December 25th. In some cases it wascelebrated marking the birth of Christ. The January 6 datestill marks the birth of Christ in the Eastern Church. Theessence of Epiphany is the revealing of Jesus as the Savior

of all peoples. One of the themes of Epiphany is the visitof the Magi which is both actual and symbolic, remindingone and all that Jesus is the Savior for all peoples, nations, and cultures. The Call to Worship brings to mind the starthe wise men followed to find the King of kings. May eachof us be like the star this year as we point people to theSavior. As we begin this new year with all of the unknownsthat lie before us, we find clarity and certainty in MosesPsalm 90. Our opening hymn is a setting of that psalm byIsaac Watts who has given us one of the great hymns oftestimony in the English language. - Dr. Dan Sharp
