  • You may have noticed that the opening part of the worship service is very vertical, Godward focused, in its direction. We are following a biblical pattern. Psalms and other songs of worship in Scripture most often begin in the same way, (Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Ps. 100). Isaiahs famous encounter with God began Holy, holy, holy is the Lord The opening hymns extol the character of the Godhead offering praise for who God is. With so much of our lives are focused on ourselves, worship is a retuning to the truth about God, who he is, what he does, and who we are in relation to God. God is the one who has invited us into his presence rather than the other way around. So we come humbly before him in the opening minutes of worship with humble grateful hearts. Great Is Thy Faithfulness is one musical expression of gratitude. There is reference to the Father as creator, the Son as the one who paid the penalty for our sin, and the presence of the Holy to cheer and to guide. Let the opening hymn express your heart this morning. The Lord would love to hear you sing your own praise this morning. One of the main reasons humans have voices is to sing their Creators praise. Sing! - Dr. Dan Sharp
