When was the last time you sang a new hymn? Learning is part of maturing in the faith. This morning worship includes a hymn that most likely has an unfamiliar text, though you may recognize the tune. Even if the melody is unfamiliar, it is easy to learn since three of the four lines are identical! It is No.570 in our hymnal. I would encourage you to use a hymnal when we sing this song, even if you dont read music or normally look at a hymnal. There is only one line of notes you even need to look at. It is the one above the words and follow the top notes of that line. You can easily see if they go higher or lower and how wide the skip is or if the notes repeat. Also, if they have a black bar connecting them to other notes, they will go faster in those places. If you get to a hollow note, one that is not filled in, like the last note in each line, you wait longer before going on. This is really the basics of singing a melody! Read through the hymn text ahead of time. It is a great reminder that our daily work is not only an expression of our love and offering to God, but is a witness to the world around us. The last verse reminds us that our work on this earth is never done, but that day-by-day faithfulness, will accomplish all that God has in mind. He is our ultimate joy in work.

In 2008, First Pres was part of a group of five downtown churches trying to help the disadvantaged in Central Florida obtain personal identification, such as birth certificates, Florida ID Cards, and drivers licenses. Born from these discussions, IDignity, one of our strategic mission partners, helps the disadvantaged in Central Florida overcome the difficulties of obtaining personal identification.

Each monthly downtown event gathers several agencies, such as the Florida Division of Drivers Licenses, Orange County Health Department, Veterans Affairs, the Social Security Administration and more, and serves approximately 225 clients. It takes a team of 100 people to walk clients through the individual process with respect and compassion.

First Pres will partner in an upcoming IDignity event November 19, and you can sign up to serve in one of two shifts, from 7am12pm or 11am4pm. Stop by their table under the Angel Wing this morning, between the Sanctuary and Allen Hall. iDignity.org/volunteer
