The Hamilton robotics team filled the Hamilton HighSchool IMC room June 4 as part of a formal recognition atthe School Board meeting.
There are more than 70 members on the robotics team, which is formally called Charger Robotics Team 537.
During the teams most recent season, ChargerRobotics earned the Chairmans Award at the LakeSuperior Regional and qualified for the FIRSTChampionship.
Advisor Lori Hinytz explained the Chairmans Award isthe highest honor a team can receive and is bigger thanrobot winning a competition.
It celebrates the whole team from inception to the cur-rent members, Hinytz said.
Hinytz later introduced adult mentors for the program.
Team leader Alyssa Rebensburg, a four-year teammember, explained there are 73 student members on theteam. She added that 88 percent of the teams alumni havepursued careers in science and technology.
According to Rebensburg, more than 55 companiesprovided sponsor support this past season and the pro-gram has served as a mentor for 13 other high schoolteams.
During the programs history, Rebensburg said Chargerrobotics honors have included three regional ChairmansAwards, three Engineering Inspiration Awards, threeJudges Awards, two Gracious Professionalism Awards, eight Entrepreneurship Awards and a Rockwell Innovationand Control Award.

Recently recognized for her notablervice to the community, Menomonee
alls High School senior Julie Schweiss ise kind of young woman who is constant-putting others firstoften to the point of
verextending herself.Sometimes I take on too many caus-
s, she admitted. Something will touchy heart and I just have to get involved.
One of her most near and dear proj-ctsplaying a key role in the organization
her high schools American Cancerociety Relay for Life eventis whatrought her statewide attention earlier thisear.
In March, the 18-year-old was honoreds one of just five Distinguished Finalists in
Wisconsin by the 2013 Prudential Spirit ofommunity Awards program, the countrysrgest youth recognition program based
xclusively on volunteer community serv-e, for helping to raise nearly $20,000y co-chairing (with classmate Alexaorgan) a school team for the charityalk.
Schweiss learned of the honor via aell phone call from her principal Coreyolla.
I was like, Why is the principal call-g me? Am I in trouble? she recalledith a laugh. Then I found out about theward and I was really excited and felt soonored. It was pretty awesome.
Through the high schools Key Club, chweiss has been involved in the Relayr Life for several yearsstarting with the
ommunity-wide event and then helpingith the formation of a school-specific ver-on of the walkand last year, under hernure, the school event went from 200 to00 participants and from $7,500 raised
the impressive total of more than twice
at amount. This new standard was achieved by
etting higher goals, working harder thanver before and just being really ambi-ous, the teen said. We set a goal of10,000 and we ended up surpassing it
by $10,000.Calling her co-chair integral to the
Relays success, Schweiss said she andMorgan and the rest of their 15-membercrew made it their mission to go aboveand beyond where we had ever beenbefore.
Through various committees, the stu-dents raised money and awarenessthrough the traditionalbake sales, a rum-mage sale and a car washand the
unique. We did something called Stop the
Bop for which students had to pay to getan annoying song to stop playing as theywalked through the hallways betweenclass time, Schweiss explained. It wassomething fun and different and it gotword out about the Relay at the sametime.
The actual event went as well as shecould have hoped, said Schweiss, notingthat along with the actual relay, the dayincluded a wide variety of activities suchas Zumba, a rock-climbing wall, fieldgames and a dunk tank.
It was great, she said. We did notexpect a turn out as huge as it was. It was
so cool getting the community and highschoolers together for such an amazingcause, for an issue that affects everyone.
Raised in the village by her parents,Jonathan and Christy (she also has a 16-year-old sister, Jill), Schweisswho is sixthin her class academicallyflourishes in avariety of other areas as well.
She is also a member of StudentCouncil, the number two singles player onher schools Varsity tennis team, andinvolved in numerous waysas a choirmember, lector, youth group participant,Vacation Bible School helper and men-torat Holy Cross Lutheran Church in thevillage.
"Words cannot express how proud I
am of Julie, said Christy Schweiss of herdaughter. Her strong work ethic, kind-ness, and generosity towards others willopen many doors for her in the future.
As she gets ready to pursue a physicaltherapy degree at Carroll University this
fall, Schweiss has confidence that the qual-ities mentioned by her mother will carryher into a bright future of doing what sheloves mosthelping people.
When I set goals for mstrive for them, she said. I see how I can use my talentto make a dif ference for oth

I think we were a little bit bitter from last

The Panthers won in an eight-inningame 3-2 as Kylie Hodgson score from sec-nd base on a error.
Hodgson was inserted as the courtesynner after Taylor Smola singled. Hodgsonen advanced on a bunt sacrifice.

The teams were tied for three inningsafter the Panthers scored one run to make thescore 2-2. Soik singled, stole stole second, and scored on a single by Megan Roth.
Germantown had opportunities to takethe lead, but left two runners on base in thefifth inning and one runner on base in the
seventh and eighth innings. Its missed opportunities. It was kind ofunusual for us, we didnt miss a lot of themthis year, Raguse said. When we neededthem, we usually came through.
Stevens Point opened the scoring in thebottom of the first inning as Smola scored, allowing Carly Lass to score from second.
Germantown tied the score in the secondinning as Becky Soderberg singled, allowingAlex Bechler to score from second base.

Germantown closed the door on severalopportunities by Stevens Point to break the
game open, as pitcher Amanda Witzlibrecorded five strikeouts to end innings whilerecording 13 strikeouts over seven-plusinnings.

Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19, isthe name given to emancipation day byAfrican-Americans in Texas. On that dayin 1865 Union Major-General GordonGranger read General Orders, No.3 tothe people of Galveston. It stated:
"The people of Texas are informedthat, in accordance with a proclamationfrom the Executive of the United States, allslaves are free. This involves an absoluteequality of personal rights and rights of
property between former masters andslaves, and the connection heretoforeexisting between them becomes thatbetween employer and hired labor. Thefreedmen are advised to remain quietly attheir present homes and work for wages."Large celebrations on June 19 began in1866 and continued regularly into theearly 20th century. The African-Americans treated this day like the Fourthof July and the celebrations containedsimilar events. In the early days, the cele-bration included a prayer service, speak-
ers with inspirational messof the emancipation proclafrom former slaves, food, regames, rodeos and dances
