The Hamilton School District is one of just 547 dis-tricts across the U.S. and Canada named to the 5thannual Advanced Placement (AP) District Honor Rollby the College Board. Districts on the list are honoredfor increasing access to AP course work while main-taining or increasing the percentage of students earn-ing scores of 3 or higher on AP Exams.

Hamilton Principal Candis Mongan credited staffmembers and students for the schools success.

This recognition demonstrates that students con-tinue to maintain or improve in areas that are essen-

tial for their success after high school, Mongan said.It also shows the ability of teachers to prioritizeinstruction so that students experience an academi-cally challenging educational program.

Inclusion on the fifth annual AP Honor Roll isbased on the examination of three years of AP data, from 2012 to 2014, in which districts must:

    increase AP participation and access by at leastfour percent in large districts, six percent in mediumdistricts and 11 percent in small districts;

increase or maintain the percentage of examstaken by African American, Hispanic and AmericanIndian students; and

improve performance levels when comparingthe percentage of students in 2014 scoring a 3 orhigher to those in 2012, unless the district has al readyattained a performance level in which more than 70percent of the AP students are scoring a 3 or higher.

your tree simple by choosing one or two colors for the tree's

    dcor.

For kids, decorate with their favorite color. Make tissue-

paper flowers to place on your tree. All you need is tissue

    paper and pipe cleaners.

For a tree that will help you remember the good times, hang

mementos that you've collected throughout the year instead

of traditional, often expensive ornaments. Choose knick-

knacks from family vacations, party pictures, favors from

weddings or showers, or kids' arts and crafts projects. Hang

holiday greeting cards from family and friends on your tree.

To turn these trinkets into ornaments, glue or attach ornament

hangers to each item. Your tree will be a reminder of the fun

    shared throughout the year.

For a more international feel, use inexpensive wrapping

paper to make origami cranes -- symbols of peace. Paper

birds of all sizes will look beautiful on your tree and can be

fun project for the whole family.

After jumping out to an early leadagainst Nicolet Nov. 22, MenomoneeFalls rallied in the final seconds to turnback a Knights comeback to win 37-36.

The Indians opened the game witha 10-1 run and increased the lead to17-4 after Karly Volz hit a free throw at

the 7:154 mark of the second quarter.Nicolet cut in Menomonee Falls leadslightly but still trailed 23-13 at half-time.

Nicolet started its comeback in thethird quarter, outscoring MenomoneeFalls 6-2 in the final six minutes. TheKnights then limited Menomonee Fallsto two points in the first t hree minutes ofthe fourth quarter while scoring sixpoints to take a 32-31 lead at the 5:07mark. Volz put Menomonee Falls backin the lead with a three point basket atthe 3:40 mark to give MenomoneeFalls a 34-32 lead. The teams tradedthe lead until Volz converted a freethrow with 6.6 seconds remaining to

seal the victory.Afterward, Menomonee FallsCoach Craig Amundson said foulscaught up with his team in the secondhalf, as some of the leading scorerswere on the bench.

Amundson said an adjustment sug-gested by an assistant coach of placingthe guards in the bottom corners of thecourt is what opened space for Volzsthree point shot toward the end of thegame.

Ive got to credit the assistantcoaches for coming up with some goodadjustments as well while we talking,Amundson said.

    Drs. Richard and Bruce Winter

Dear Dr. Winter, I have spaces between my teethand I have always been self-conscious about my smile.I am a college student so I am financially limited. Is

there anything that you can do to help me with myproblem?Dear John, it can often be intimidating to go to a

dentist when you dont know all of your options but wewould love to see you for a no charge consultation. Ifyour teeth are in a good position but you simply havesome spacing we may be able to use white fillingscalled bonding to close your gaps. This may all bedone in one or two visits and can often last 5-7 years orlonger. Then when you are in a different economicposition we could replace the bonding with porcelainveneers. These veneers are thin white porcelain piecesthat cover your tooth and can often change the shapeand color of your teeth resulting in a much prettiersmile.

If you have a jaw that is too large for the size teethyou have, then perhaps crowns may be needed to tryand improve the overall height and width of your teeth.Again transitional bonding can help determine whatthe best solution is for your situation. If orthodonticscould solve your problem this also can be discussed. Itis always better to move teeth to close spaces then toadd materials that will eventually require replacementassuming your tooth size is acceptable.

Dear Dr. Winter, could you tell me about thedifference between Snap-On Dentures and mini-implant dentures? I am limited financially but I cantstand my dentures! They pop up during eating andtalking all the time and I need some way to stabilizethem. I read the testimonials on your website andwatched all the videos and I am convinced theseoptions will help me.

Dear Peter, regular sized implants are alwayspreferable to mini-implants. That is because there is agreater surface area on larger implants and they holdon to your bone better. Also traditional implants thatare 3.0 mm in diameter or larger can have the tops orchimneys changed in order to UPGRADE to a fixedbridge in the future. Mini-implants do not have anupgrade path. That means that if you decide to investmore time, effort and money in the future to have teeth

that stay in all the time, the mini-implants wouldneed to be removed and larger implants placed.

The article on Upgradeable Dentistryexplains this concept on the website:www.hamptondentalassociates.comwhere you cansee that any implants will improve your situation! The ability to use larger implants will allow us to uselarger attachments that have the ability to hold yourprosthesis even firmer then the mini-implants. Bothchoices will be way better then using dentureadhesive! I invite you and our readership to come infor a free consultation to see if Snap-On dentures orMini-Implant dentures are right for you! My goal asa dentist is to help everyone to get rid of theirdentures and move back to fixed teeth. These twochoices are wonderful ways to begin that journey.

    Sincerely,Richard B. Winter D.D.S. M.A.G.D. D.I.C.O.I. D.A.B.O.I./I.D.

A new season began with a new chal-lenge for the Kettle Moraine Lutheran girlsbasketball team.

Lose weight is the number one NewYears resolution, says CNN.com and manypopular lifestyle sites. A new year is a newbeginning and for many that meansattempting to take charge of ones health.

According to two local healthexpertsregistered dietitian ChrisSchlagenhauf and exercise physiologist

Marilyn Ranney, both from WorkforceHealth of Froedtert & the Medical Collegeof Wisconsinthis is a very attainable goalif one goes about it in the right way.

This means having a plan, both womenemphasized in separate interviews with theExpress News.

When my clients tell me their resolutionis to get fit, I say, Thats the outcome yourehoping for, but what is the plan to get youthere? The old saying goes, If you fail toplan, you plan to fail, Ranney said. Youneed to know what youre hoping toaccomplish. Is it to lower your blood pres-sure? Reduce stress? Lose weight? Onceyou have that goal, you can go from thereand follow the steps along the way.

Ranney and Schlagenhauf offered thefollowing tips to do just that:

Diet: Fuel your body with the right foods:

Skipping meals is a surefire way to holdonto excess weight, said Schlagenhauf. You need to fuel your body with severalsmall mealsmore like snackseach day. Ifyou eat a healthy combination of carbs andprotein every four to five hours, you wontbe starving by the time you sit down for din-ner.

For these mini-meals, Schlagenhauf sug-gests a piece of fruit, yogurt, vegetableswith hummus or a piece of string cheese assome options. Focus on high-fiber food, shesaid, because it is low in fat, but makesyou feel satisfied.

Put color on your plate: You want awide variety of color on your plate, thedietitian said. You want to eat a lot of fruitsand vegetablesmore vegetables thanfruitthat give you a lot of micronutrientsand antioxidants.

Pay attention to portion sizes:Americans who got married in the 1930sand 40s served their meals on 10-inchplates; now wedding dinner plates are 14inches around, said Schlagenhauf. The

plates are bigger so people think they haveto fill them, she Along those same lines, restaurant serving sizes are huge. Its aWisconsin thing because you feel likeyoure getting more for your money.

First item of business when eating out:Immediately put away half of your mealfor lunch the next day, Schlagenhauf said. Then eat all your vegetables and have aside salad.

Beware of trends: Schlagenhaufwarned that diet trends such as goinggluten-free are not a magic fix. A lot ofthose products have a lot of sugar and fat,she said. Its better to choose more wholegrains like barley, couscous and quinoa.

Be mindful of what you drink: Drinkenough water, the dietitian emphasized, especially if youre upping your fiberintake. If drinking tea or coffee, limit it totwo cups per day, she said, and as a rule, stay away from soda.

Its best to just have more water, saidSchlagenhauf. To spruce it up, add a sliceof lemon, orange or cucumber. If you wantto add a sugar-free flavor packet, just a bitfor taste to a bottle of water.

Exercise: Start small: People tend to leap from

logging zero miles to resolving to be amarathon runner in a weeks time, but this isa recipe for failure, said Ranney. Be realis-tic, she said. If you havent been exercis-ing at all, suddenly exercising at the gymfive days per week is probably not going to

happen. Mix cardio and strength training:

National Physical Activity Guidelines forAmericans recommend 30 minutes of exer-cise most days. Ranney advises clients tofocus on cardio (Get the heart rate up andget moving) most days, do strength-train-ing two times per week and throw in 15 to30 minutes of stretching per week. Whilesome house and yardwork (i.e. rakingleaves, shoveling snow) can be considered

exercise, it should generally be somethingabove and beyond the normal, mundanechores you do around the house, saidRanney. Whatever it is, do something, shesaid, as something is better than nothing.

Pick something you enjoy: Choosean activity you like to do, said Ranney.Dont take up something you hate ordread. Do something you find fun. For car-dio, there are options like Zumba classes orwalking; for strength, one can try yoga orPilates. There are a lot of options, theexercise expert noted.
