which includes classroom assessments, districtbenchmark and standardized tests help pro-vide a picture of a students academic

progress.Lindberg also noted that high school jun-iors will be required to take the ACT Aspiretest starting this year.

Because so many of our students alreadytake the ACT, it will not have as big an impacton our high school as it might in other com-munities, she said.

Falls resultsOfficials in the School District of

Menomonee Falls are pleased with the mostrecent results of district students who took theACT test.

The composite score among the 291Menomonee Falls district students who tookthe test was 23.7. District officials noted theresults are the highest number of studentsearning the highest score since the statebegan keeping test records in 1995.

We are pleased that the hard work ofour students and staff is paying off. Alongwith our record Advanced Placement test par-

ticipation and performance, we continue toraise the bar on education in MenomoneeFalls, High School Principal Corey Gollasaid in statement issued by the district. Ourstudents and staff a re modeling the focus, cre-

ativity and grit that are essential for sustainedimprovement in all fields. It is exciting to seethese results.

Our teachers have done tremendouswork the last three years to align assessmentsand units with the ACT college and careerreadiness standards, Director of Curriculumand Instruction Gary Kiltz added. As a resultof this alignment work, we are seeing divi-dends with increased scores the last twoyears.

Superintendent Patricia Greco said thecollective effort of staff to take steps toincrease scores is now paying off.

We continue to align our curriculum tothe ACT skill strands for college readiness, and our programs to the high-demand jobmarkets. We have developed strong partner-ships with higher education to prepare our stu-dents for the next steps. Our staff membersacross the system are working hard togetherinfuse the college level of questioning andproblem solving, Greco said.

During a recent interview, Hamilton Coach John Damatosummarized his teams expectations each season.

The expectation for us is to go into every football gameand be competitive, to make sure that we play fundamentalfootball and for our team to reach its full potential. If we do thatand do what we do I think all the wins will take care of itself,he said.

The pattern followed form last season, as the Chargers com-piled a 7-3 record and advanced to Level 2 of the playoffs.Seven starters return on offense and two on defense. Overall, there are approximately 60 players on the varsity squad.

We've got a little more experience on t he offensive side ofthe ball and the defensive side of the ball we're inexperiencedbut the one thing that's been a standard here is their work ethic:The kids have been working their tails off, they've had a greatoffseason and we're hoping that carries over to the gridiron,Damato said. We ask a lot of the boys and they're more thanwilling to put in the time in. We're hoping they make a connec-tion between the work they put in the offseason and what'sgoing to be happening out in the football field come Fridaynight.
