In this third Sunday of Lent, you will notice that we have added a crown of
thorns to the large cross in the front. Sin is an awful thing. If you and I are evertempted to minimize sin and its effect on life, we have only to remember the pain,
cruelty, and horror of the cross. Scripture records that after the crown of thorns
was put on Jesus, He was beaten on the head by the soldiers. The ugliness of the
cross helps us to better understand the holiness of God. The holiness of God can
tolerate no taint of sin, then or now. This fact is one of the reasons why confession
of sin, our own personal sin, is so significant when we come to worship our holy
God. The Ten Commandments Confession and choir anthem guide us in this time
of confession this morning. - Dr. Dan Sharp
