The opening hymn today, God, We Praise You,is based on a 4th centurycanticle, the Te Deum, which was sung in a devotional prayer service. Itis very similar to the canticles (a short song of devotion) found in Lukes

gospel. (e.g. Marys song Lk.1:46-56). We will say part of the Te Deumin ourAscription of Praise to God this morning. Notice that we join with heavenly

beings in offering our praise to God. Sometimes it is hard for us to imagine

that as we are worshiping in this sanctuary, we are being joined by unseen

and unheard heavenly creatures who are also praising our God (one of the

liabilities of being earthbound creatures). In fact, around the world, Gods

people are joining in praise. We add our small voices in adoration of the

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Dont ever be lulled into thinking that what we

do in worship has earthly limits. Add your voice to the eternal song, Wepraise you, O God. - Dr. Dan Sharp

*Welcome & Passing of the PeaceSt. Paul always greeted with the words, The peace of God be with you. This

is an appropriate way to greet fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, and so we

say, The peace of the Lord be with you and respond, And also with you. We

then pass this greeting of peace to one another. At the passing of the peace weshould earnestly desire Gods peace upon each person we greet.
