WELCOME TO FIRST PRES April 13, 2014
Thank you for coming to First Presbyterian Church of Orlando this morning! So glad you’re here. We worship together as a church family at four times on Sundays: Traditional worship in the Sanctuary at 8:30 and 11am, and Genesis worship in Lee Fellowship Hall at 9:45am and 11am. If you’d like to connect and learn more about this church family, one of our hosts will be available at the front of the room after worship, or you can visit fpco.org/guest.
• National Day of Prayer: May 1• Organ Concert: May 4 - 4pm
Pack up your youngest kiddos (nursery through pre-k) and a picnic lunch, and join our church family Easter egg hunt this Friday, April 18. Rain or shine, enjoy the morning with friends on our Great Lawn. Arrive by 10:45am for an 11:00am start. Questions? Call Stacey Kirk at x1480.
Take some time out this summer and serve someone else! Bring your family and join us on our Family Mission Trip to the Dominican Republic. This year’s trip will be June 7-13, working alongside our partners with Mission Emanuel in the villages of Cielo and Nazaret. To learn more, visit fpco.org/trips.
Know someone who would be a great elder or deacon? We are now accepting recommendations for our next class of leadership at the church. Fill out a recommendation form in the lobby of the Edington Ministry Center this morning, or online at fpco.org/recommendations.
You’re invited to Market Place, a chance to shop with friends and check out treasures from local vendors. A portion of the proceeds benefit our Weekday School. Stop by this Wednesday, April 16 in the King Parlor at First Pres, from 9:00am to 2:00pm.
The Women’s Cancer Support Group will meet Wednesday, April 16 in Room 340 of the Edington Ministry Center, from noon-1pm with a light lunch provided. Holy Week
The glorious and grand conclusion of this part of God’s plan for redemption forms the core of our morning worship, as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
This Sunday is one of the more unique services of the year. We begin in celebration, anticipating the arrival of Jesus as the coming King. The people waved palm branches, a symbol of victory and triumph, in anticipation of being freed from Roman rule. When Jesus did not lead the expected revolution, they turned on Him only days later. The fickleness of loyalty to Christ did not end with those early followers of Jesus. In them we are reminded of our own challenge to be faithful to the Lord when He does not do what we want or expect. We begin the worship today in triumph and joy and gradually move this week through the sobering realization of what Christ came to do. Join us on both Thursday and Friday evenings as we make the journey from the upper room with the disciples, through the Garden of Gethsemane, through the trial, the crucifixion and burial. The Passion of Christ is in three parts; Thursday, Friday, and Easter Sunday morning. It is important to grasp the entirety of God’s story. There is none like it! - Dr. Dan Sharp

At the passing of the peace we should earnestly desire God’s peace upon each person we greet.
