Archdiocesan update on Masses at Epiphany Cardinal DiNardo has given permission to the parishes in the archdiocese to expand the attendance capacity for Masses. We are expanding the seating capacity to 40% of our church’s seating capacity, which is approximately 600 people per Mass.

To maintain the same level of precautions in our church during this time when we are called to be concerned for the safety of others, we will continue with the health guidelines and measures implemented since May 1st. As a reminder, the following are some of the measures we have been practicing:

1. Hand sanitizers are available at every church entrance; 2. Entrance into the church on Sunday is through the main narthex

doors in order for the members of the Pastoral Council to monitor the seating capacity;

3. Everyone is to wear a Mass (over your nose and mouth) while in the church;

4. The collection baskets are not passed around during Mass, and the Sunday offertory is made in the collection boxes as you enter or exit the church or on on-line;

5. The hymnals are taken out of the pews, and the Mass readings and music can be found in the bulletin to pick up before Mass;

6. Only the clergy will distribute Communion, who will use hand sanitizing soap right before Communion, and Communion is received in the hand;

7. And after each Sunday Mass, the congregation is asked to use the Clorox wipes at the end of the pews to wipe the area at which you are seated in preparation of the next Mass.

During Communion, we ask that you keep your mask on while in line and then step aside to lift your mask to receive the Eucharist. Do not walk off with the Consecrated Host in your hand as you are going to your seat. We still need to consume the Eucharist at the front on the altar and not as you are returning to your seats.

These safety reminders will help us all worship together with peace of mind and spiritual focus. Your support and presence are deeply appreciated at this time!

Gospel Reading ( Matthew 25: 14-30)

Jesus told his disciples this parable: "A man going on a journey called in his servants and entrusted his possessions to them. To one he gave five talents; to another, two; to a third, one--to each according to his ability. Then he went away. Immediately the one who received five talents went and traded with them, and made another five. Likewise, the one who received two made another two. But the man who received one went off and dug a hole in the ground and buried his master's money. "After a long time the master of those servants came back and settled accounts with them. The one who had re-ceived five talents came forward bringing the additional five. He said, 'Master, you gave me five talents. See, I have made five more.’ His master said to him, 'Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master's joy.’ Then the one who had received two talents also came forward and said, 'Master, you gave me two talents. See, I have made two more.' His master said to him, 'Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master's joy.’ Then the one who had received the one talent came forward and said, 'Master, I knew you were a demanding person, harvesting where you did not plant and gathering where you did not scatter; so out of fear I went off and buried your talent in the ground. Here it is back.' His master said to him in reply, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I did not plant and gather where I did not scatter? Should you not then have put my money in the bank so that I could have got it back with interest on my return? Now then! Take the talent from him and give it to the one with ten. For to everyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. And throw this useless servant into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.'"

November 15, 2020 33nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

First Reading (Proverbs 31: 10-13, 19-20, 30-31)

When one finds a worthy wife, her value is far beyond pearls. Her husband, entrusting his heart to her, has an unfailing prize. She brings him good, and not evil, all the days of her life. She obtains wool and flax and works with loving hands. She puts her hands to the distaff, and her fingers ply the spindle. She reaches out her hands to the poor, and extends her arms to the needy. Charm is deceptive and beauty fleeting; the woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Give her a reward for her labors, and let her works praise her at the city gates.

Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 128)

Blessed are those who fear the Lord.

Second Reading (1 Thessalonians 5:1-6)

Concerning times and seasons, brothers and sisters, you have no need for anything to be written to you. For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief at night. When people are saying, "Peace and security," then sudden disaster comes upon them, like labor pains upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness, for that day to overtake you like a thief. For all of you are children of the light and children of the day. We are not of the night or of darkness. Therefore, let us not sleep as the rest do, but let us stay alert and sober.

Offertory: I Have Loved You

I have loved you with an everlasting love, I have called you and you are mine;

I have loved you with an everlasting love, I have called you and you are mine.

1. Seek the face of the Lord and long for him: he will bring you his light and his peace.

2. Seek the face of the Lord and long for him: he will bring you his joy and his hope.

Communion: I Am the Bread of Life

1. I am the Bread of life. You who come to me shall not hunger; and who believe in me shall not thirst. No one can come to me unless the Father beckons.

And I will raise you up, and I will raise you up, and I will raise you up on the last day.

2. The bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world, and if you eat of this bread, you shall live for ever, you shall live for ever.

3. Unless you eat of the flesh of the Son of Man and drink of his blood, and drink of his blood, you shall not have life within you.

4. I am the Resurrection, I am the life. If you believe in me, even though you die, you shall live for ever.

Gathering: I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say

1. I heard the voice of Jesus say, "Come unto me and rest; Lay down, O weary one, lay down Your head upon my breast." I came to Jesus as I was, So weary, worn, and sad; I found in him a resting place, And he has made me glad.

2. I heard the voice of Jesus say, "Behold, I freely give The living water; thirsty one, Stoop down, and drink, and live." I came to Jesus, and I drank Of that lifegiving stream; My thirst was quenched, my soul revived, And now I live in him.

Mass Music

CHANGE OUR LIVES

The letters of Paul to the Thessalonians are among his earliest writings, and are driven by his belief and the belief of the entire early Christian community that the return of Christ was imminent, and that devoting time or attention to anything else was foolish.

As time progressed, this fervor subsided a bit. To-day we may wonder, when we hear these readings about the coming end-times, if we should take them to heart, if we really believe that Christ still may come upon us as a “thief at night” (1 Thessalonians 5:2). Does this mean that we are to stop our long-range goal-setting, get rid of our yearly calendars and planners, or stop putting money in the college education fund? Of course not. What it does mean is that we need to change our lives, living like children of the light and illuminating the world around us with the light of the gospel. Then, on that day, when the details of our daily living become unimportant, we will be ready to find our peace and security in Christ Jesus. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Our EPIC fall formation program is officially over. The online content will be available through the

end of the year. Out of an abundance of caution we will continue with virtual faith formation for the second semester. Visit www.epiphanycatholic.org/registration for more information and to register.

We will be creating more content for our virtual faith formation in the spring. We could use volunteers to help prepare lessons and produce videos for our students. To find out how you can help, please email Dave Clark. [email protected].
