ADORATION ADORACIÓN
Thursday / Jueves 9AM to 6PM
For the past several months, Fr. Steve, a group of your fel-low parishioners and I have been working to renew and strengthen the Pastoral Council of the parish. During my first year as pastor of St. Lucy I was very appreciative and thankful for the work that the PAR Commissions and the Pastoral Council did in support of the mission of St. Lucy Parish.
It became apparent during the year that the function of the Council and Commissions were becoming less effective and needed to be renewed and revitalized. In August this year, I, following the advice of several members of the parish leadership, disbanded the current council and began a process of discerning the a new Parish Council for St. Lucy. As noted above we have been meeting and have finalized a formal structure which will guide us in selecting a new Parish Council and also the duties and work that the council will undertake. (Continued page 5...)
In this, we will be asking parishioners to be open to serving on the council by seeking names and nominations from the parish at large. The role of the Parish Council will be for the strategic and long term planning with the vision of our parish community, seeking how best to serve the community both today and tomorrow. If you are interested or know someone who may fill this role of leadership, please see the nomination on the parish website and at the en-trances of the church for more information. Please continue to pray for our parish.
God Bless, Fr. Mark
GOD'S HEALING JUSTICE
An old expression holds that the sun-warmed stone heals. Perhaps. But Malachi explains that only dark, sunless days are in store for those who do not find a place for God in their lives. Conversely, he tells us that the warmth and light of God's healing justice await those who fear the Lord. That's a pretty comfort-ing notion--especially now in the already short and growing even shorter days of November. It's the sun-warmed stone, and then some.
Paul speaks to us of justice as well, but points out that it is not a passive thing. To be treated justly, we need to do our fair share. If we are diligent and perse-vere we will be rewarded with and by the fruits of our labor. Lastly, Luke, too, tells us to persevere--in faith, this time--and our lives will be secure in God regard-less of how we are treated by our enemies. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.
Copyright © J. S. On October 21st-23rd, St. Lucy, Queen of Apostles and Star of the Sea Church (San Francisco) welcomed more than 85 teens to our "Pan de Vida Retreat: An Encounter with Jesus". The retreat had more than 35 leaders/chaperones/musicians/volunteers from all participating parishes. Our very own Fr. Mark Arnzen, Fr. Daniel Williamson, CFR., Br. Elijah Perri, CFR., Fr. Rey Sar-miento, Fr. Joseph Illo, and Dcn. Matthew Murray offered talks, sacraments, liturgies, and prayers throughout the week-end. Thank you so much to our Confirmation Track 1 families, for providing the youth with din-ner Friday night. Jesus was present the entire weekend in Eucharistic Adoration and we ended the retreat with the Crowing of Mary on Sun-day. Thanks to you, all the families and our Core members for the support and for helping to make this retreat possible.
THESAINTS
Every chapter that the children learn from their catechetical books highlights the life of a Saint. The catechists also place special attention to teach about the Saints close to the Solemnity of All Saints Day on November 1st.
The Saints are role models and real heroes for our children. They are men and women who loved God so much that they were willing to do anything for Him, especially lead lives that pleased God. Through our baptism we are called to be saints too, by being good children to God, who is our father, and living our ordinary lives in extraordi-nary ways as followers of Jesus Christ.
Parents, please provide time and resources to encourage your children to read and learn about the lives of the Saints. You can easily find good webpages such as “A Saint A Day” (http://www.holyspiritinteractive.net/kids/saints) or give to your child a book on the Saints for his/her Birthday or Christ-mas.
