Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time 29 Aug 2004 Slide 2 GREETING In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. Slide 3 Penitential Rite My brothers and sisters, to prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries, let us call to mind our sins. I confess to almighty God, and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have sinned through my own fault, Slide 4 in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done, and in what I have failed to do; and I ask blessed Mary, ever virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. Slide 5 May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. Amen. Slide 6 Opening Prayer Let us pray Almighty God, every good thing comes from you. Fill our hearts with love for you, increase our faith, and by your constant care protect the good you have given. Amen Slide 7 Liturgy of the Word First Reading (Sirach 3:17-20, 28-29) My child, perform your tasks with humility;then you will be loved by those whom God accepts. The greater you are, the more you must humble Slide 8 yourself; so you will find favour in the sight of the Lord. For great is the might of the Lord; but by the humble he is glorified. When calamity befalls the proud, there is no healing, for an evil plant has taken root in him. The mind of the intelligent Slide 9 appreciates proverbs, and an attentive ear is the desire of the wise. Slide 10 The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Slide 11 Responsorial Psalm R. God, in your goodness, you have made a home for the poor. Let the righteous be joyful; let them exult before God; let them be jubilant will joy. Sing to God, sing praises to his name; his name is the Lord, be exultant before him. Slide 12 R. God, in your goodness, you have made a home for the poor. Father of orphans and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation. God gives the desolate a home to live in; he leads out the prisoners to prosperity. Slide 13 R. God, in your goodness, you have made a home for the poor. Rain in abundance, O god, you showered abroad; you restored your heritage when it languished; your flock found a dwelling in it; in your goodness, O God, you provided for the needy. Slide 14 Second Reading (Hebrews 12:18-1, 22-24) You have not come to something that can be touched, a blazing fire, and darkness, and gloom, and a tempest, and the sound of a trumpet, and a voice whose words made the Slide 15 hearers beg that not another word be spoken to them. But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God the judge Slide 16 of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. Slide 17 The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Slide 18 GOSPEL The Lord be with you. And also with you. A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke. Glory to you Lord. Slide 19 On one occasion when Jesus was going to the house of a leader of the Pharisees to eat a meal on the sabbath, they were watching him closely. When he noticed how the guests chose the places of honour, he told them a parable. When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet, do not sit Slide 20 down at the place of honour, in case someone more distinguished than you has been invited by your host; and the host who invited both of you may come and say to you, Give this person your place, and then in disgrace you would start to take the lowest place. But when you are invited, go and sit down at Slide 21 the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he may say to you, Friend, move up higher; then you will be honoured in the presence of all who sit at the table with you. For all who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. He said also to the one who had Slide 22 invited him, When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbours, in case they may invite you in return, and you would be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. And you will be blessed, Slide 23 because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous. Slide 24 The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Slide 25 Homily Slide 26 Profession of Faith We believe in One God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth of all that is seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father Slide 27 God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father, Through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven; Slide 28 by the power of the Holy Spirit he was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered, died and was buried. On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures; Slide 29 He ascended into Heaven and is seated at the Right Hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, Slide 30 who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. Slide 31 We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. Slide 32 Prayer of the Faithful R. Lord, hear our prayer. For the Church, working to be a sign of humble service to all, we pray to the Lord: R. Lord, hear our prayer. Slide 33 For leaders of nations, seeking to improve the quality of life for those they serve, we pray to the Lord: R. Lord, hear our prayer. Slide 34 For all who suffer from violence and oppression, we pray to the Lord: R. Lord, hear our prayer. Slide 35 For this parish, building a community of compassion and justice, we pray to the Lord: R. Lord, hear our prayer. Slide 36 Offertory Song Slide 37 Liturgy of the Eucharist Pray, my brothers and sisters, that our sacrifice may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father. Slide 38 May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good, and the good of all his Church. Slide 39 Prayer over the gifts Lord, may this holy offering bring us your blessing and accomplish within us tis promise of salvation. Amen. Slide 40 The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give him thanks and praise. Slide 41 PREFACE Father, all-powerful and ever- living God, we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks through Jesus Christ our Lord. Through his cross and resurrection he freed us from sin and death and called us to the Slide 42 glory that has made us a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people set apart. Everywhere we proclaim your mighty works, for you have called us out of darkness into your own wonderful light. And so, with all the choirs of angles in heaven,we proclaim your glory and join in their unending hymn of praise: Slide 43 Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Slide 44 Eucharistic Prayer II Invocation of the Holy Spirit Lord, you are holy indeed, the fountain of all holiness. Let your Spirit come upon these gifts to make them holy, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Slide 45 The Lord Supper Before he was given up to death, a death he freely accepted, he took bread and gave you thanks. He broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said: Slide 46 Take this, all of you, and eat it: this is my body which will be given up for you. Slide 47 When supper was ended, he took the cup. Again he gave you thanks and praise, gave the cup to his disciples, and said: Slide 48 Take this, all of you, and drink from it, this is the cup of my blood, the blood of the new and everlasting covenant. It will be shed for you and for all so that sins may be forgiven. Do this in memory of me. Slide 49 Let us proclaim the mystery of faith: When we eat this bread, When we drink this cup, We proclaim your glory Until you come again. Slide 50 In memory of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Father, this life-giving bread, this saving cup. We thank you for counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you. May all of us who share in the body and blood of Christ be brought together in unity by the Holy Spirit. Slide 51 For the Church Lord, remember your Church throughout the world; make us grow in love, together with our pope - John Paul II. Our bishop - Joseph Zen, John Tong, and all the clergy. Slide 52 For the dead Remember our brothers and sisters who have gone to their rest in the hope of rising again; bring them and all the departed into the light of your presence. Slide 53 In communion with the saints Have mercy on us all; make us worthy to share eternal life with Mary, the virgin Mother of God with the apostles, and with all the saints who have done your will throughout the ages. May we praise you in union with them, and give you glory through your Son, Jesus Christ.
