TWENTY SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME: FIRST PLACES AND OUR LABOR

Today we start a new month and tomorrow marks the unofficial end of summer with the Labor Day holiday. It seems our lives are composed by constant beginnings and endings, inviting us to take a close look at our lives, how we live them and how we receive our day to day events. Today´s Lukan gospel and reading of Sirach speaks to me of humility, about knowing our places and being grateful for being invited to the feast. We live in a world where people desire to enter into the fight for first places at events. They want to be acknowledged by the world, whose values are usually not the gospel values, they want to be seen, appreciated, but many times, not by things that really shows their inner worth. I recently saw a film entitled “Table 19”, it was about a wedding banquet and this table of misfits, who were invited, but the weeding couple, didn't know where to place them. They had to be invited for some reason or another, but they were not really expected to show. We see how they themselves search for meaning, for a place to better sit and as they discover each other, they find their place. I personally don´t like big events, I rather have a small talk over a sandwich than a great party. I go if I have to, but I like to lie low and just be a part of the crowd. Frankly I see it as being a part of a bigger picture, or our Church. I really enjoy being a part of the whole, seeing first the Lord convoking us and then the beautiful part of each being. Let the Lord call us forth, may it be because of our faithfulness and may we continue His labor upon earth. That brings me to Labor Day, may we give thanks for our Labor, it helps us to contribute to all aspects of our lives. Make we seek to carry out what we’re entrusted to the best of our abilities. As a Church may we also construct the kingdom diligently and with great courage, this past week we had the opportunities to take a glimpse of lives given to God: Saint Monica, Saint Augustine, Saint John the Baptist (in his passion) and Blessed Ghebre Michael, a great Vincentian martyr in the Church of Ethiopia. Each was given a different call, each answered with their heart, their lives and their commitment. We are starting a school year, I pray we can do as Saint Vincent de Paul animates us: “Let us love God my brothers, let us love God. But let it be with the strength of our arms and the sweat of our brow. “

VIGÉSIMO SEGUNDO DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO: LOS PRIMEROS PUESTOS Y NUESTRO LABOR

Hoy comenzamos un nuevo mes y mañana marca el final no oficial del verano con el feriado del Día del Trabajo. Parece que nuestras vidas están compuestas por constantes comienzos y finales, invitándonos a observar de cerca nuestras vidas, cómo las vivimos y cómo recibimos nuestros eventos cotidianos. El evangelio de Lucas de hoy y la lectura de Eclesiástico me hablan de humildad, de conocer nuestros lugares y de estar agradecidos por haber sido invitados a la fiesta. Vivimos en un mundo donde las personas desean participar en la lucha por los primeros lugares en los eventos. Quieren ser reconocidos por el mundo, cuyos valores generalmente no son los valores del evangelio, quieren ser vistos, apreciados, pero muchas veces, no por cosas que realmente muestran su valor interior. Hace poco vi una película titulada "Mesa 19", se trataba de un banquete de bodas y esta mesa de inadaptados, que fueron invitados, pero la pareja descuidada, no sabía dónde colocarlos. Tenían que ser invitados por alguna razón u otra, pero en realidad no se esperaba que se presentaran. Vemos cómo ellos mismos buscan el significado, un lugar para sentarse mejor y cuando se descubren, encuentran su lugar. Personalmente no me gustan los grandes eventos, prefiero tener una pequeña charla con un sándwich que una gran fiesta. Voy si tengo que hacerlo, pero me gusta acostarme y ser parte de la multitud. Francamente, lo veo como parte de una imagen más grande, o nuestra Iglesia. Realmente disfruto ser parte del todo, ver primero al Señor convocándonos y luego la parte hermosa de cada ser. Que el Señor nos llame, que sea por nuestra fidelidad y que podamos continuar su labor en la tierra. Eso me lleva al Día del Trabajo, que demos gracias por nuestro Trabajo, nos ayuda a contribuir a todos los aspectos de nuestras vidas. Hacer que busquemos llevar a cabo lo que se nos confía lo mejor que podamos. Como Iglesia, también podemos construir el reino diligentemente y con gran coraje, la semana pasada tuvimos la oportunidad de echar un vistazo a las vidas dadas a Dios: Santa Mónica, San Agustín, San Juan Bautista (en su pasión) y el Beato Ghebre Michael, un gran mártir vicenciano en la Iglesia de Etiopía. Cada uno recibió una llamada diferente, cada uno respondió con su corazón, sus vidas y su compromiso. Estamos comenzando un año escolar, rezo para que podamos hacer lo que San Vicente de Paul nos anima: “Amamos a Dios, mis hermanos, amemos a Dios. Pero que sea con la fuerza de nuestros brazos y el sudor de nuestra frente.”

Pope: the relationship of gratuitousness with God helps us to give for free (part 1)

Give free what has been received from God for free. Pope Francis focused his reflection on the theme of this divine gratuity and on which we must also have with others, both through testimony and service. Esto hace mucho mal, tanto mal al pueblo de Dios. La vocación es para “servir”, y no para “servirse de”. Ensanchar el corazón Además, la vida cristiana es “una vida de gratuidad”. Y de hecho, también en el pasaje evangélico propuesto por la liturgia de hoy, se lee que el Señor va al núcleo de la salvación: “Gratuitamente han recibido, den gratuitamente”. Está bien, pero estén atentos: esto no es para “pagar por la gracia”, para “comprar” la gracia. Esto es para ensanchar tu corazón para que la gracia venga. La gracia es gratuita.

HOLY SACRAMENTS

Infant Baptism Birth to 6 yrs. Infant baptisms are celebrated on the first Sunday of every month. Baptism preparation class for parents and Godparents are held on the Tuesday prior to the Baptism Sunday. Parent(s) or Godparent(s), please bring an original birth certificate of the child to the main office where you can begin the process of registration for this beautiful sacrament.

Children’s Faith Formation ages 7 yrs. to 15 yrs. (Baptism, First Holy Communion, Confirmation) Our Children’s Faith Formation program provides preparation of the Holy Sacraments for children. The program follows Diocesan Guidelines for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Children. The hours for children's faith formation classes are Sunday, 9:30 A.M. -1:00 P.M.

Pentecost Confirmation 16 yrs. and older Are you baptized and received First Holy Communion but have not completed the Sacrament of Confirmation and you are over the age of 16? Our Confirmation only program begins in January in preparation for Pentecost Confirmation typically at the end of May or beginning of June.

Anointing of the sick Call (718) 455-6864 to make arrangements for the sick person to receive Holy Communion or the Anointing of the Sick at home.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) (Becoming a Catholic)

Are you baptized? Have you received First Holy Communion? Are you Confirmed? Adults and youth at least 16 yrs. of age seeking full initiation into the Catholic Church are invited to enter into a process of faith formation. RCIA classes are all year round.

LOS SACRAMENTOS Bautismo para bebes nacimiento a 6 años

Los bautismos para bebes se celebran el primer domingo de cada mes. La clase de preparación del bautismo para los padres y padrinos es el martes antes del domingo del bautismo. Padres o Padrinos, traiga el certificado de nacimiento original del niño a la oficina principal donde pueden comenzar el proceso de inscripción para este hermoso sacramento.

Formación de Fe para Niños 7 años hasta 15 años (Bautismo, Primera Comunión, Confirmación) El programa de formación de fe para nuestros niños se prepara los niños para sus Sacramentos. El programa sigue las Directrices Diocesanas para el Rito de Iniciación Cristiana de los Niños. Las horas para las clases son domingo, 9:30 A.M. -1:00 P.M.

Confirmación de Pentecostés 16 años y adelante ¿Se ha bautizado y recibido la Primera Comunión pero no ha completado el Sacramento de la Confirmación y tiene más de 16 años de edad? Nuestro programa de Confirmación solo comienza en enero en preparación para la Confirmación de Pentecostés típicamente en mayo o junio.

Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos: R.I.C.A. (Convertirse Católico)

¿Está bautizado? ¿Has recibido la Primera Comunión? ¿Está Confirmado? Se invita a los adultos y jóvenes 16 años y adelante, que buscan la iniciación completa en la Iglesia Católica para entrar en un proceso de formación de fe. Las clases de R.I.C.A. son todo el año.

Este programa ha tomado su nombre del pasaje del evangelio en el que Jesús asiste a la celebración de las Bodas de Caná. Al convertir el agua en vino, Jesús nos enseña que toda boda tiene dos elementos: el de celebración y el de transformación.
