Menomonee Falls Village PresidentRandy Newman will not seek another termas village president.

Newman confirmed he will not seekanother term when reached for commentfollowing the Nov. 17 Village Board meet-ing.

“I’m not running again,” Newmansaid.

Newman was first electedMenomonee Falls village president in2009 and was re-elected in 2012. He waselected village president after serving twoterms as a trustee.

Newman said when he was electedvillage president he said he planned toserve two terms.

“I think that’s enough time for me onthe board, four as a trustee, six as a vil-lage president,” Newman said. “It’s timefor other people’s ideas to come forward. This isn’t a lifetime job for me. My decisionwas back then, six years ago, that if I waselected to two terms that would my self-imposed term limit. Let someone else moveon step forward and hopefully do a betterjob.”—By Thomas J. McKillen, Managing Editor

Falls village president won’tseek re-election

said.Brandtjen also raised concerns about

the planned $90 million for a new court-house project which she indicated wasdone "without much discussion or vettingregarding what is needed and what is not."

“The budget put forth by CountyExecutive Dan Vrakas and supported by 22

of the 25 county supervisors was not horrif-ic. It probably could be described as ‘notthat bad.’ It is my opinion that ‘not that bad’is no longer good enough," Brandtjen said."We had an opportunity to slim down thebudget in a variety of areas and set thetone for reduced government here inWaukesha County but we missed itbecause suddenly ‘not that bad’ is as goodas it gets.”

History of St. NicholasThe true story of Santa Claus

begins with Nicholas, who wasborn during the third century inthe village of Patara. At the timethe area was Greek and is nowon the southern coast of Turkey. His wealthy parents, who raisedhim to be a devout Christian, diedin an epidemic while Nicholaswas still young. Obeying Jesus'words to "sell what you own andgive the money to the poor,"Nicholas used his whole inheri-tance to assist the needy, thesick, and the suffering. He dedi-cated his life to serving God andwas made Bishop of Myra whilestill a young man. BishopNicholas became known through-out the land for his generosity tothe those in need, his love for chil-dren, and his concern for sailorsand ships.Under the Roman Emperor

Diocletian, who ruthlessly perse-cuted Christians, Bishop Nicholassuffered for his faith, was exiled

and imprisoned. The prisons wereso full of bishops, priests, anddeacons, there was no room forthe real criminals—murderers, thieves and robbers. After hisrelease, Nicholas attended theCouncil of Nicaea in AD 325. Hedied December 6, AD 343 in Myraand was buried in his cathedralchurch, where a unique relic, called manna, formed in hisgrave. This liquid substance, saidto have healing powers, fosteredthe growth of devotion toNicholas. The anniversary of hisdeath became a day of celebra-tion, St. Nicholas Day, December6th (December 19 on the JulianCalendar).Through the centuries many sto-

ries and legends have been toldof St. Nicholas' life and deeds. These accounts help us under-stand his extraordinary characterand why he is so beloved andrevered as protector and helper ofthose in need.

(NAPSI)—While holiday decorations are agreat way to spread the joy of the season, youhave to make sure they’re safe.

Tips To Help:Whether you decorateindoors, outdoors or both, there are certainelectrical safety tips you need to keep in mind:

First, always purchase electrical decora-tions and lights from reputable retailers andmake sure they’ve been approved by a nation-ally recognized testing laboratory such asUnderwriters Laboratories (UL), Intertek (ETL)or Canadian Standards Association (CSA).

Next, plan out your decoration arrange-ments so no outlet is overloaded and no cordsare pinched by furniture or under rugs. Onceyou’re ready to decorate, inspect all electricaldecorations for cracked, frayed or exposedwiring. These can pose shock and fire hazardsand should be thrown away. When hangingholiday lights, don’t connect more than threestrings of incandescent lights. Alternatively, consider purchasing LEDs, which use less ener-gy and let you safely connect more stringstogether.

When decorating outdoors, bear in mindthat some common electrical products you useinside, such as holiday lighting or extensioncords, may not be suitable for outdoor use.Check each product’s labels or packaging to

determine whether it’s for indoor or outdooruse. Outdoor electric lights and decorationsshould be plugged into circuits protected byground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs), whichare designed to protect from electrical shockand electrocution. If circuits are not GFCI pro-tected, you can get portable outdoor GFCIswhere electrical supplies are sold. They requireno special knowledge or equipment to install.

Once you’ve safely put up your decora-tions, continue to ensure your electrical safetyby turning off all electrical items before leavingthe house or going to bed. To reduce your risk,it’s also important to keep Christmas treeshydrated and at least three feet from heatingequipment or any open flame, such as a can-dle or fireplace.

Be vigilant about heeding these hints fromthe experts at the Electrical Safety FoundationInternational and give yourself the gift of safe-ty this holiday season.
