Safe on Social

Safe on Social director, Kirra Pendergast, works

with schools, in Australia and internationally, and

businesses with a focus on social media safety

and welfare. Her presentations are powerful,

punchy and incredibly thought-provoking. She will

have you racing home to lock down your privacy

settings, turn off your location settings, delete a

few apps and reconsider what and how you post

online.

Parents are invited to attend the free evening

session from 6-7 p.m. This session will cover content

that is not appropriate for younger people and

hence they cannot be admitted – the session is

strictly for parents.

Safe on Social presentations are inspiring,

empowering and completely current. As a parent,

you are encouraged to be proactive in

understanding how to use social media in a

positive way and protect yourself online. You will

also have a clearer understanding of what your

children are doing online and will be better

equipped to have open and honest discussions

about keeping them safe. Do not miss this

memorable event – it will change your online

habits forever. It is at no cost to parents, thanks to

the Wollumbin HS P&C!

Education Week - Open Day / Grandparents Day

One for the calendar!

Education Week this year is Term 3, Week 3,

6th -10th August. The theme this year is “Today’s

schools - creating tomorrow’s world.”

Our annual Open Day / Grandparents Day will be

on Wednesday 8th August. Our students dress up

on this day usually in something associated with

our Book Week theme which this year is “Find Your

Treasure!” More details of the day will follow in

future newsletters but hopefully this will give you

and your child some time to think about their

costumes.

Les Peterkin Portrait

In 2017, the Les Peterkin Portrait Prize received

more than 3,000 entries from 39 primary schools in

the Tweed/Ballina area. It’s an excellent way for

students and schools to display their creativity and

participate in an exciting creative arts event.

Before the end of this term, all our K-6 students will

produce their portrait during class time. This year

the organisers are asking students to let their

imagination run wild, by creating a portrait of

themselves going to a fancy dress costume party.

They want our students to imagine they are

hosting a fancy dress and firstly, come up with a

theme for the party. The theme should be the title

of their portrait. Students are then asked to

consider their costume, pose and the expressions

on their face to help tell about the character.

They want our students to have fun with the

portrait as there is no limit to who, where, or what

you can be!

We look forward to seeing what our students

come up with. A selection of the best works will be

exhibited at the Tweed Regional Gallery from 28th

September - 2nd December 2018.

Chickens

We are seeking some volunteers to assist in looking

after our school chickens, particularly during the

school holidays.

If you are able to assist, please contact myself or

Ms Noble.

Stage 1 & 2 Tennis Lessons

Our school has been very fortunate to secure

funding from Sporting Schools. With this funding,

we have purchased a class set of tennis racquets,

balls and mini nets. The funding also covers money

for professional tennis lessons.

Therefore, this term during Week 4-8, Stage 1 and

2 students will be participating in professional

tennis lessons free of charge! These lessons are run

by Gemma Eaton, the coach from our local club

in Murwillumbah and will be held on Thursdays.

Please note that this Thursday is Pyjama Day and

students will need to wear their sports shoes so

they can participate freely in their lesson.

We look forward to seeing your child in action!
