In addition to the student report a student portfolio is also sent home. The student portfolio contains work samples and assessment tasks that the students have completed over the last two terms. This will hopefully give you a better understanding as to the quality and standard of work being attempted. In saying this, after consultation with staff and parents (Parent Forum) it has been decided to not issue portfolios out at the end of each Semester. In future assessment tasks will be sent home as they are completed. Parents will be asked to sign the assessment task (or an accompanying note) and return it back to the school, as a way of acknowledging that you have sighted / received the assessment. The portfolio that you receive this term will therefore be the last one. It is envisaged that this change of procedure will keep parents continually updated on the progress of your child across all Key Learning Areas. It will enable you to ascertain areas in which you can assist your child and also provide an avenue for encouraging , supporting and acknowledging their hard work. If you wish to discuss this further, please don not hesitate to contact me or child‘s class teacher. Last Tuesday night we had nearly 30 people attend the ―Boys In Education‖ evening. The night was very thought provoking and interesting. In upcoming newsletters I will endeavour to share some of the articles that were made available to me. The Bush Dance is rapidly approaching, disregard the pessimists who are telling you not to wash the car or hang out the washing, we are all confident of a great ―fine‖ night. VIRTUE OF THE WEEK-

What is Consideration?

Consideration is having regard for other people and their feel-ings. It is thinking about how your actions will affect them and caring about how they will feel. Consideration is thoughtful-ness. It is paying attention to what other people like and don’t like, then doing things that give them happiness.

Consideration is doing things in a way that benefits others as well as yourself.

munion on Sunday 2nd June, the Feast of the Most Holy Body and

Blood of Christ, at the Parish Celebration at the Sacred Heart

Church. We will continue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Mini-Vinnies Winter Appeal ―Do Something About It‖

This winter St Vincent de Paul Society is encouraging us to think about what matters to us and do something about it so we can create positive change. On Friday 14th June we are asking each family to bring in a non-perishable item of food which we will donate to the St V.de P. centre. This food will be stored in their pantry until it is needed by someone in our local community who is doing it tough this winter. Other things you can do to create positive change are

Donate your old clothes to the St V.de Paul centre. The

money raised goes directly towards supporting people in the local community who need help.

Have lunch with a classmate you wouldn’t normally talk to.

Help out with chores around the house without being asked.

Write a thank you note to your teacher for all the wisdom

they have shared with you.

Offer to help a smaller member of your family with their

homework.

Make a donation at your local Vinnies or by calling 131812

or by visiting dosomethingaboutit.org.au

Mini-Vinnies are holding a pre-carnival stall on Monday 24th June at recess, where customers can purchase drink bottles, streamers, balloons and posters in their house colours. The money raised at this will go towards the winter appeal. We

decided to ‘do something about it’.

The Feast of the Sacred Heart

Last Friday 7th June, Mount Saint Patrick Primary school and St Joseph‘s

South Murwillumbah attended mass for the Feast of the Sacred Heart to

celebrate the special feast day of our Sacred Heart Parish.

Ripper Rides—Design

Brief The iBoards Company is coming to the Australian

market. iBoards is famous for making surfboards,

skateboards and snowboards.

The company is looking for a talented young de-

signer to create some exciting deck designs for

its new Aussie iBoard range.

There are strict guidelines for design – each deck

must have no more than ¾ of its surface cov-

ered by design and no less than ¼ of its sur-

face covered by one solid colour. Investigate a

way to prove that your pattern covers as close as

possible to ¾ of the board.

The designs must be geometric and consist of a

specific set of lines and shapes.

iMATHS PROGRAM iMaths is a Mathematics program that focuses on students using their mathematical skills to

complete investigations. Here in an investigation from Mrs Morosini and Mrs Spamer‘s Stage 2 maths class.

POLDING CROSS COUNTRY

Youth Environment Council Y.E.C. On 21st May four representatives of the Youth Environment Council Committee attended a meeting at Murwillumbah High School. The Y.E.C. is an initiative of the Tweed Shire Council. We have a meeting once a term with other schools of the Valley. We visited the Organic Farmer‘s Nursery where we were shown how to make soil. They use vermiculite, hay and compost and it takes nine months. We were told about food additives and how to avoid them. Check labels on processed foods and grow your own food as much as possi-ble. They also had chooks at the nursery. On the Sunday before someone had broken in and lit a fire which caused a lot of damage. They also took two of the chooks. On Sunday it was World Environment Day and 8 of our representatives attended. We made and sold ‗Take 3‘ badges. ‗Take 3‘ is a

campaign to clean up the environment. Each time a ‗Take 3‘ volunteer leaves a public place like the beach or a park they pledge to take three bits of rubbish which would otherwise end up in our oceans or waterways. We displayed artwork which had been made by stage two out of recycled items. There was a lot of interest in them. Some people even wanted to buy them! Some of our members had made posters about the things Mt.St.Patrick Primary are already doing to save our world: the solar panels, our gardens (soon to be extended), water saving initiatives and recycling. At the next meeting in term 3 we are going to learn about and discuss water waste and saving.

Amber Charilaou, Callum Moss, Skye Engler , Luca Molinari and Philomena Zambelli. Many thanks to Yasmine Charilaou, Luca Mollinari, Charlie Priest, Chloe Brawley, Matlida Nimmo and Mrs Zambelli who repre-

sented our school at the Youth Environment Council Stall at Knox Park last Sunday.
