Murwillumbah East Primary School Newsletter Term 1, Week 10 2nd April, 2019 Great work—weekly wrap up Last week I was fortunate enough to spend some time in K-1D’s classroom. These students had been receiving lots of ‘Gotchas’ for our Positive Behaviour for Learning focus last week of speaking nicely to one another. We played a name game testing our working memory and shared one of my favourite stories from author Mem Fox. K-6R students Sebastian, Dane and Joe showed me outstanding responsibility and care in the chicken coop and Mrs Turners’s Cooking Club spoiled me with some lunchtime treats. Working With Children's Check The majority of parents and close relatives who volunteer at our school in their child(ren)'s classes are exempt under the Working With Children Check (WWCC) regulations and do not have to obtain a WWCC clearance. The Department of Education requires parent volunteers to complete an ‘Appendix 5’ and provide 100 points of proof of identity through our school office. These replace the Prohibited Declaration Forms you would have completed previously. Thank you to all the wonderful parents who volunteer in our rooms and have updated their details with us. If you have any questions regarding updating your paperwork, please come and see our wonderful office staff or Mrs Henderson who can assist you. Great work—weekly wrap up

Last week I was fortunate enough to spend some

time in K-1D’s classroom. These students had been

receiving lots of ‘Gotchas’ for our Positive Behaviour

for Learning focus last week of speaking nicely to

one another. We played a name game testing our

working memory and shared one of my favourite

stories from author Mem Fox.

K-6R students Sebastian, Dane and Joe showed me

outstanding responsibility and care in the chicken

coop and Mrs Turners’s Cooking Club spoiled me

with some lunchtime treats.

Working With Children's Check

The majority of parents and close relatives who

volunteer at our school in their child(ren)'s classes

are exempt under the Working With Children Check

(WWCC) regulations and do not have to obtain a

WWCC clearance. The Department of Education

requires parent volunteers to complete an

‘Appendix 5’ and provide 100 points of proof of

identity through our school office. These replace the

Prohibited Declaration Forms you would have

completed previously.

Thank you to all the wonderful parents who

volunteer in our rooms and have updated their

details with us. If you have any questions regarding

updating your paperwork, please come and see

our wonderful office staff or Mrs Henderson who

can assist you.

Parent feedback from MEPS Big Breakfast

Recently at our MEPS Big Breakfast, we took the

opportunity to display our School Plan and three

strategic directions for 2018-2020:

Strategic Direction 1: Excellence in Learning

Strategic Direction 2: Excellence in Teaching

Strategic Direction 3: Excellence in Leading

Strengths that have been identified in our school

are:

Passionate/engaged/dedicated staff (this was

identified by a large proportion of the responses

received)

Teachers provide opportunities to all learners

(students feel challenged)

Strong Kinder Orientation Program/Learning

Ladder Program

Improved communication with the school

community (e.g. via the Facebook page and

school app)

Areas suggested for further development and

consideration:

Notifications via text or email for daily student

unexplained absences

Notifications if a child is receiving an award at

assembly

More outdoor learning environments -

playground equipment, exploration areas, etc

More engagement with indigenous cultures,

knowledge and experiences

More access to information for families that

share 50/50 care

More music program opportunities and lessons

Less laminating

planning phases and we can’t wait to share this

exciting news with you all as we roll them out.

Concrete markings, new fixed equipment, student

absence SMS and online booking for parent teacher

night in Term 2 are the first to be Implemented.

Kerry Makin, one of our very friendly staff SLSOs, has

been canvassing the playground at home time last

week and again this week and making calls to

parent directly to further survey families and gain

additional insight from parents. Thank you to our

amazing school community for your response giving

us valuable information. If you wish to provide

information and we haven’t had the opportunity to

contact you, please feel free to contact Kerry via

the office.

Tell Them From Me (student survey) and NAPLAN
