Mt St Patrick Primary School, Murwillumbah 10th November 2015 Newsletter No. 18 Dear Parents, GRANDPARENTS’ DAY MASS: Another wonderful Grandparents’ Day was celebrated last Friday. Again the number of people attending was amazing. The students really appreciate having their grandparents visit and it is terrific to see the students take much pride in walking their families around the school and into their classrooms. Thank you to all the grandparents who journeyed from far and wide to be with us on the day. Some families journeyed from areas such as: Broken Hill, Sydney, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Coffs Harbour and Newcastle (just to name a few). Thank you to Fr Lemon for leading us in celebrating a special Grandparents’ Day Mass in the Sacred Heart Church. Congratulations to the large number of students who entered items into the Murwillumbah Show. These items included art, craft, photography, jewellery and cooking items. A special thank you to Mrs Trevithick for her coordination of all the students entries and putting together our school display. Thank you also to Mrs Toms, Linda Cunningham & Maria McCabe with their assistance with our school display. Thank you to all the families that supported our Book Fair. Again it was a huge success with sales of books reaching $5,700. Thank you to those families who donated books to the school Library. Thank you to Mrs Withers for coordinating the Book Fair and Mrs Jodie Champley, Mrs Chris Akehurst and Mrs Jenny Cantrill for their assistance as well. Some family photos of Grandparents day located on page 6. LEADERSHIP DAY

Year 5 students participated in the second of their Leadership Retreat Days. Unfortunately due to the wet weather the organised day was held at school. Despite this however the Year 5 students participated in a very productive day. The purpose of the activities during the day was to focus on leadership qualities. Essentially the Year 5 students came up with 6 key qualities of effective leadership. These qualities form the basis of a model of leadership that as school leaders next year they will aspire to. The next step is for our Year 5 students to prepare their nomination for School Captain speeches. YEAR 5 CAPTAIN SPEECHES will be held

in the Sacred Heart Hall on THURSDAY 26th NOVEMBER.

IMPORTANT DATE FOR YEAR 6 FAMILIES YEAR 6 GRADUATION MASS

special Mass. Further information regarding this will be sent home

REMEMBRANCE DAY CEREMONY

Tomorrow at 10:30am on the Hardcourt Area our school will commemorate Remembrance Day. At 11:00am on 11th November 1918, the guns fell silent after more than four years of war. The elev-enth hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month became universally associated with the re-membrance of those who died during war. Tomor-row we will pay our respect to those who have

died fighting for their country.

“We will remember them”

CLASS REQUESTS 2016: At times we receive parent requests for class placement for the following year. l would like to remind parents that all requests need to be in writing to the Principal. Please outline reasons for the request. Although con-sideration will be given to your request no guarantees are given. Teachers spend a lot of time working together in placing students for the following year. Students are placed with consideration to their academic, social and emotional needs.

STUDENTS/ FAMILIES NOT ATTENDING MT ST PATRICK IN 2016: The parents of students who are not returning to Mt. St Patrick Primary in 2016 (not including current Year 6’s) are asked to please notify the Principal as soon as possible. As you would be aware our school has waiting lists in certain Year levels and it would assist us in determining possible enrol-

ments and class placements.

WORLD TEACHER’S DAY: Thank you to all the families and

students who took the time to acknowledge our wonderful teaching

staff on World Teacher’s Day. Your gifts and words of thank you

were very appreciated by our staff. We have a very dedicated

and professional staff who often go above the call of duty to

provide quality teaching and learning.

World Teacher’s Day assembly, imitating members of our school

staff. The likeness was uncanny.

STUDENT PORTFOLIOS

Student Portfolios have been sent home today. Please take time to share these assessment tasks with your child. A parent

signature & comment provides valuable feedback to your child. Portfolios are due back at school by next Monday.

GRANDPARENTS’ DAY THANK YOU !

Thank you to the Parent Reps from both Year 1 classes for their coordination of the morning tea on Grandparents’ Day. With so many people attending this Grand-parents Day it was all hands on deck to serve morning tea. Special thank you to: Melissa Toms, Cathy Drummond & Alison Gracie & for helping with setting up and

serving morning tea.

GRANDPARENT’S DAY

The best place to be when you're sad is Grandpa's lap.

~Author Unknown

What children need most are the essentials that grand-

parents provide in abundance: unconditional love, kind-

ness, patience, humour, comfort, lessons in life. And,

most importantly, cookies. ~Rudolph Giuliani

Grandparents are a valuable and vital resource in our communities. They provide children with a stability and sense of generational continuity.
