Murwillumbah East Primary School Newsletter Term 4, Week 6 15th November, 2016 Stage 3 Camp & Stage 1 excursion Stage 3 students are off on their annual school camp this week. They will be attending Tyalgum Ridge Retreat. This is a great opportunity for our students to engage in a host of activities that will include canoeing, high ropes, a waterfall hike, BMX bike riding and archery. I look forward to joining them for part of their camp on Thursday. On Thursday, our Stage 1 students will also be attending an excursion to a number of parks around our local area. This excursion will be supporting the theories the students have devised in class about what makes a good playground/ park. I’m sure they will all have lots of fun! Maths Olympiad Winners Last Friday, Mr Boyle from Wollumbin High School made a special visit to our K-6 Assembly. He was there to present the Maths Olympiad trophy to our school’s 2016 winning team; Lily Robinson, Ben Kington, Jack Evans and Nick Sneesby. Mr Boyle was especially impressed with the team’s design and problem solving skills, however, what stood out for him the most was their ability to work as a team. Congratulations to these students and all the others that represented our school at this event. Arrivals and Departures We are beginning to notice a lot more students arriving at school very early, some well before 8:30am. A reminder that no supervision is available to students prior to 8:45am. If your child does arrive at school before then, they are reminded that they are to sit under the COLA area until the teacher on morning duty arrives. The safety of our students (and parents) are very important to us. When leaving our school in the afternoon please ensure you and your child use the school crossing. Bus companies have reported nearly running people over as they race across the road between buses. Please set a great example for our students and cross at the crossing! P&C Meeting & Volunteers Morning Tea Our last P&C meeting for the year is next Tuesday, 22nd November. As this is also our Christmas celebration dinner, the meeting will be at the Murwillumbah RSL starting at 6:00pm. I hope to see lots of you there. If you are unable to attend P&C, perhaps you will join the staff and myself at our volunteer’s morning tea so we can personally thank you for your contribution to our school this year. Have a great week! Sam Rowsell Principal (R) Be Safe Be Respectful Be A Learner Charles Street, Murwillumbah 6672 6781 www.murwillume-p.schools.nsw.edu.au

State Athletics

Our school would like to officially congratulate our

State Athletic Representatives who competed in

Sydney this term. This is a very fantastic

achievement to reach this level.

Netball Gala Day

What a great day we all had at the “Netball Gala

Day” last Wednesday. Our students had fun

playing the great game of netball, which for some

of them was the first time they had actually

stepped on a netball court. In the end we

managed to make 8 teams with 56 students

attending. I was proud to watch the students

improve as the day went on especially in the very

warm conditions. We had some enthusiastic

parents that took on a coaches role and were

enjoying themselves as well. It was lovely to see

MEPS support the local netball club. Amazing

sportsmanship was displayed by all players.

Cant wait until next year.
