Dear Parents, SACRAMENT OF FIRST HOLY COMMUNION Congratulations to those children who have made the First Holy Communion on Sunday. Thank you to Mrs Dixon and the class teachers who prepared the children for this special Sacrament. SEMESTER 1 REPORTS Today your child will receive their Semester 1 Report. The report card must meet Federal Government requirements. The A-E style (not including kinder) is called ‘standards referenced’ because the A-E code has a very precise definition. At Mt St Patrick we adhere to this terminology very closely unlike many schools. Students who receive an “A” or “B” are working well above the expected level. Students who receive a “C “ are working at the appropriate level. Importantly at Mt St Patrick Primary, we do not inflate our grades, nor do we intend to give you a false indication of your child’s academic progress to date. If you wish to discuss your child’s progress to date, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher. OSHAP (Outside School Hours Activities Program) APPOINTMENT Congratulations to Mrs Sandi Williams who has been appointed as the new coordinator of the OSHAP. Mrs Williams had previously been running her own Family Day Care business since 2010. Her appointment will commence at the beginning of Term 3. OSHAP is an important facility available to all families at our school and we welcome Mrs Williams to the role. I would also like to acknowledge the wonderful service by Rachael De Groot and Ellie in coordinating the OSHAP program over the past 4 years. STAFFING NEWS We wish Mrs Liz Levick and her husband Michael much happiness and joy at this exciting time well as they prepare for their first child. Thank you also to Mrs. Levick for her commitment, dedication and enthusiasm in teaching kinder over the past 18 months at Mt St Patrick Primary. Miss Lauren Wright will be teaching Kinder L at the commencement of Term 3. Congratulations as well to Miss Stacie Prichard, who will be getting married over the Term holiday break. We wish Stacie and her fiancée Liam best wishes for a lifetime of love, happiness and special memories. Upon her return in Term 3 Stacie will be known as Mrs Young. ATHLETICS CARNIVAL Wonderful to see so many parents able to attend the Athletics Carnival last Friday. It was a great day with special thanks to Mrs Agnes Markham for her
organisation of this day. A full report and results are available on pg. 7
Thank you all for your continued support during this Term.

PROCLAIM LISMORE PARENTS 2014 – “It takes a village to raise a child” Over the past few months all parents of children in Catholic schools throughout the Lismore Diocese have been receiving Proclaim Parent e-bulletins that have highlighted the need for developing and improving ways for parents to be valued partners in the education of their children. Parish Schools are in an adventurous time of change as parishes, principals, staff and parents become co-designers of a strong, bright future for Catholic education. But to do this successfully we need you. We need people who can contribute courage, vision and passion as we look for ways to take Catholic education from good to great. Please visit the Proclaim Lismore website to learn more about our journey of co-designing a stronger future for each child at www.proclaimlismore.com.au.

TERM 2 FOCUS:
COMMUNION
with our fellow Friends of Nano
and others ST VINCENT DE PAUL WINTER APPEAL.
We are once again calling for assistance for our Winter Appeal. Please access the Vinnies website at https://www.vinnies.org.au/dosomething/ to read some inspiring stories explaining how Vinnies assist families just like us to find happiness when times get tough. If you would like to donate to this you may send in non-perishable food items, blankets and warm clothing with your child to their classroom teacher. Donations of money are also gratefully re-ceived by St Vincent de Paul who in turn pass it on to those needy peo-ple who find life a bit harder in the winter. Please have these donations in by tomorrow, Wednesday 25th June. Children will attend Mass at 12 noon this Fri-day 27th June to celebrate the Feast of the
Sacred Heart which is traditionally when we think about the loving heart of Jesus on fire with love for all people. We will present these items at this special mass to members of St Vincent De Paul.
ORDINARY TIME
Pentecost was celebrated on 8th June. Pentecost is known as the birth-
day of the church. As we move into a new season of the church year-
ordinary time, which resumes the Monday after Pentecost and contin-
ues until the end of the churches year, we use the symbolic colour of
green. The colour green at this time is symbolic of growth and new life. SACRAMENT OF FIRST HOLY COMMUNION—RETREAT DAY
The Last Supper re-enactment The children learnt about the different
parts of the Mass.

SPOTLIGHT ON SCIENCE ! We have been implementing the new Science curriculum in school and would like to showcase some of the fantastic samples of work that highlight the investigations and design process.
Middle School have been working on a design
brief to construct a structure that would withstand
a natural disaster. We tested our designs using a
fan to see if we needed to modify our designs.
Stage 1: In Science Year One have been investigating small creatures that live in our backyards. The stu-dents have learnt about the biology of a snail and what it needs to sur-vive. They have designed a snail habitat and then made it using ma-terials supplied in the classroom and brought in from home. The snails are very happy in their lovely new environments.
