DIE junior stadsraadvan Wellington is ’nhardwerkende groepjongmense met baieprojekte vanjaar op hulprogram.

Hul leier is die juniorburgemeester, die toege-wyde Rechelle Mars (16),wat onlangs ’n jeugsen-ding meegemaak het naSwede, wat gereël is deurDrakenstein Munisipali-teit en geborg is deur dieKungsbacka Munisipali-teit in Swede.

Drakenstein Munisi-paliteit is besig om ’n sa-mewerkende verhoudingrondom jeugdemokrasie-projekte op te bou metKungsbacka.

Rechelle vertel sy konhaar hart hoor klop toe syvir die eerste keer op ’nvliegtuig moes klim, op-pad na Swede.

“Dit het vir my so on-werklik gevoel en ek saldit onthou as die beste be-lewenis van my lewe,”vertel ’n oorstelpte Re-chelle wat in graad 11 is aan Wellington Hoërskool.

Sy het die reis afgelê saam met Nicola Hanekomvan die Paarl Junior Stadsraad.

Daar het hulle tydens ’n jeugwerkwinkel kennisgemaak met junior stadsraadslede van Swede.

Rechelle vertel: “Daar in Swede lê geen papierein strate nie. Daar gebeur ook nie sommer rooftogtenie - jy beleef ’n skitterendatmosfeer,” vertelRechel-le.

“As ek ’n bydrae in ons land kan maak, sal ek defi-nitief sorgdat elke individuveilig voel en in ’n skoonomgewing leef.

“Vir my is die Wellington Junior Stadsraad ’n ini-siatief wat poog om jeugdiges te bemagtig, hul leier-skapsvaardighede te ontwikkel, groter samewer-

king tussen gemeen-skappe te bevorder enook om ’n verskil temaak in die breë ge-meenskap.”

Die Wellington Ju-nior Stadsraad be-staan uit verkose ver-teenwoordigers van-uit plaaslikehoërskole(Wellington Hoër-skool, Hugenote Hoër-skool, Weltevrede Se-kondêr en BergrivierSekondêr) en daar istans 24 lede.

Rechelle verdeelhaaraandag tussendieskool se VRL-raad, dielof- en aanbiddings-koor van EmmanuelShepherds en haarpligte by die juniorstadsraad en poog omook haar beste te lewerasdit kombyhaar aka-demie. Dan speel syook netbal.

“As ek die dag mis-moedig voel, dan sal eksommer sing om my-

self te kalmeer,” vertel sy.Vir hierdie jong leier is

dit belangrik om nie nethaar pligte na te kom nie, maar om ook haar hartte deel.

“Jy moet bereid wees om om te gee vir jou mede-mens,” vertel sy.

“Baie jongmense het hul respek vir die ouer gardeverloor, maar ons as Wellington Junior Stadsraads-lede respekteer hulle.”

Die Wellington junior stadsraad het reeds vroeërvanjaar ’n rommeldag en blikkieskud-dag gehou omfondse in te samel vir die junior stadsraadsbal.

Projekte wat later dié jaar aangepak sal word, isdie boomplantdag by ’n kleuterskool, boekskenkdagby Soetendal Primêr, ’n sopkombuis en plaasbesoek.In Desember sal die groep ’n veldtog teen mishande-ling loods.

Heindrich Schloms is Paarl’sfavourite forapodiumplaceafterfinishing fourth last year.
