GOLF MEETING: If you are willing to help with the golf tournament, please come to an organizational meeting Tuesday, September 8th, 3:30 in the 4th Grade Room. Here we will come up with ways to improve the golf tournament and get organized for October 25th.

CHAPEL OFFERING: Wow! $84.66 in offering today, Wednesday (9/2). That is the best amount of donation in a single service since December last year. Usually it is LESS than half that amount. THANK YOU. This quarter the offerings are going to Lutheran World Relief. They help out after tornado, hurricane, and many other natural disasters.

FAMILY FUN NIGHT: Wow! What a great turnout we had for our organizational meeting. Many thanks to Dona and Deana for taking the lead, to Susie Vincent for being our number one advisor, and to all of you who are helping in a variety of ways. Room Mom’s, remember to contact Lori Shepherd (580-363-3508) by this Friday to let her know what game(s) your class will be sponsoring. We are asking all families to consider donating gently used toys or stuffed animals to use as prizes for FFN.

LUTHERAN SCHOOLS PEN PALS: Lutheran Schools Pen Pals is a program for 2nd – 8th grade LCMS students. Each participating child will be matched with another child of similar age and interests. If you are interested, please complete the forms attached and return with your $5.00 fee to the address on the forms by September 25.

LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF SCHOOL KITS: We are still taking collections for School Kits; if you are willing to donate supplies, a school kit contains the following items. Please consider donating one or more of these supplies: 4 spiral 70-page notebooks, 1 ruler (with centimeters), 1 manual pencil sharpener, 1 blunt scissors, 5 unsharpened #2 pencils, 5 black or blue pens, 1 box of 16 or 24 crayons, 1 2½” eraser.

IF YOU ARE PLANNING A BRANSON TRIP: The Sight and Sound Theater has the Jonah show running, and is offering a special discount to school families. Please see the note at the bottom of Page 4 of The Chatter.

PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Welcome to the third week of school and a three day weekend. HALLELUJAH. Things are flying along. Our former Pastor, Tom Ramsey, is coming to town in two weeks and he should be here for Family Fun Night. A lot of the older children should remember him. His wife, Peg, taught our middle school Math. They moved to Florida two years ago and will be in town for a wedding and to preach for our 90th Anniversary on Sunday - September 20. Mark your calendars.

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Herard: It is our third week of school already! We are having so much fun every day! This week we will be learning all about bears. We will learn about their habitats, what they eat, and that God made them different colors. To go along with the theme, our first Show and Tell on Friday the children may bring a favorite Teddy Bear or other bear to share with the class. We will have special treats that day and we will sing a song with our bears. This week will also introduce the letter "B". We will make a project to go along with our letter of the week that helps us remember the sound it makes. Repetition is especially important at this age so practice at home really helps. Special notes: No school next Monday, Sept. 7 for Labor Day. Book orders are due this Friday. When you order it helps us get books and other material for our classroom. Thank you to those that took a Wish List tag from the classroom door. We appreciate your thoughtfulness so much! God bless your week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN - Mrs. Kelly: What a great start to the school year! Thank you for the items from our wish list! We have been working on getting to know each other, our class procedures, recognizing and writing our names. We also are learning that God loves us and is with us all the time. Show and tell will be on Friday, September 4th. Book orders are due to me or online by Friday. Thanks for signing and sending back the yellow Highlights forms; if you haven't sent yours, please send it back by Friday also. Our chapel offering continues to be school supplies or money for the Lutheran World Relief. Look in your backpacks for a permission slip for a play in Tonkawa. Those will be due back to me by Wednesday, September 9th. Our Bible words are, I have called you by name, you are Mine. Isaiah 43:1 Have a blessed week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Flaherty: We are having so much fun!!! Field Trips are already in the works; Wednesday I will be sending home a field trip permission slip to attend NOC Tonkawa for a play, please fill out and return by September 9th. This week we are working on the letter Bb and bears. Book orders are due back Thursday September 3rd. We will also be having our first show n share this Friday September 4th. Reminder NO SCHOOL Monday September 7th.

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: We will have show and tell the first Friday of each month. That is this Friday. Please have your child bring one item that will fit inside their backpack. Also, please look for a field trip note in your child's backpack today. If your child doesn't know all their letters and sounds, please work on these each night with your "Monday Folder" homework. We will also be working on our letters and sounds at school. We go through our abc's fast during the first few weeks of school and then we slow down and take a letter a week. To be good readers we need to learn all our letters and sounds! Have an awesome week!

3 Growing up Into Jesus, Reaching Out with Jesus, Walking Together in Jesus

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: These fantastic first graders are doing a great job with learning their routines and being responsible! Just a reminder to turn in the Highlights forms, even if you mark no - thanks! Thank you for the wish list items that you have been bringing in. Book orders are due tomorrow. Our memory verse for Friday is Psalm 31:4 - I trust in You, O Lord; I say, "You are my God." Please bring your AR books and Reading Notebooks on Friday! A field trip form came home today for a Musical that we will attend at NOC in November. Blessings on your week!

SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Happy September! Things are going great in second grade. We are really getting into our routine. We wrote letters to our pen pals in Phoenix. It will be fun to learn and share with them. Excellent job returning home work! Enjoy your long weekend and the start of football season. Go CATS! Blessings!

THIRD GRADE - Mrs. Steichen: We had a great first full week of school. We are really getting into all our work; one thing we are still trying to work on is not talking. This week: Memory is due next Friday, it is Old Testament books Genesis through 2 Chronicles. Spelling, Reading, and Math test this Friday. Field Trip: please if you have not turned in your forms, please do so; kids are paid for but parents to get into the museum it will be $2. Book report information will be coming home this week so please be on the lookout for that. Have a great week!!!

FOURTH GRADE - Mrs. Sibley: WOW! I can see a lot of student growth in the short time we have had. Continue reading to earn our AR goals! Thank you for bringing in wish list items. I can’t wait to see other items. Please look at planners and reading logs nightly. Looking at student work helps scholars to stay on take task and helps to ensure a great next school day! As Rose Hill is around the corner, please be looking for more information to come. Also look for our first book report of the year coming soon. Blessing as you DWELL in the house of the LORD!

FIFTH GRADE - Mrs. Schatte: We're continuing to work hard at being 5th graders. Being in 5th grade means working just a little bit harder and maybe having a bit more homework than in 4th grade. Please check with your child to be sure he/she knows the assigned memory work for the week. Memory is usually assigned on Thursday and is due the following Thursday. Tomorrow Joshua 1:9 is due. See if your child can recite it to you. This week we will start learning the Ten Commandments and Meanings. We have memorized the helping and being verbs in language. Some of us did not know those on the assigned day. Check your child's planner. Is it filled out on a daily basis? It should be. I will contact parents if late work continues to be an issue this week. On a positive note, I am enjoying this group of children. For the most part everyone comes to school with an enthusiastic attitude ready to learn. Blessings!

MIDDLE SCHOOL Sixth Grade – Mrs. Goll: Lutherhoma—We will go to Camp from September 23-25. We’ll leave from school at 8:00

a.m. on Wednesday and be back here about 5:00 on Friday. The cost is $100 per camper. We’ll need many chaperones & drivers; please let me know if you can help. There is no cost for adults attending. If the cost is prohibitive, please talk to me about scholarships. We hope all sixth graders can attend. This is a great experience. I’ll be sending more information soon.

Mrs. Goll: Math: All classes have taken their first test in the last few days. Overall, the scores looked great. Check my bulletin board on FastDirect to see what our second chapter will cover. Remember you can go to classzone to find out what we’re studying as well. Have a great week!

Mrs. Harbeson: Hello, Everyone! With all the policies and procedures under our belt, I'm excited to get things going in language. September is here, and all of us have a busy month ahead of us. The sixth graders will be attending Camp Lutherhoma in Tahlequah on September 23-25. Mrs. Goll will be sending home information soon. The seventh graders will be taking their Zoo Snooze trip to OKC on September 24-25. I am attending this trip and am sending home information this week with the Cardinal Chatter. The eighth graders will be attending their highly anticipated Washington D.C. trip with Mr. Covert and Mrs. Hanson on September 21-26. You all are going to have so much fun! Also on the calendar is our annual Family Fun Night set for Thursday, September 17. FFN is such a fun night for our students and parents! There will be games, food, and much more! Our head homeroom parents will be contacting all parents to help man your class's booths. School will be out for everyone on Monday, September 7 in observance of Labor Day; and the students will be out on Friday, September 18 since the teachers will be attending a workshop that day. Yes...your teachers are going to school that day and you're not. Have fun! As always, parents are invited to join us for chapel every Wednesday at 8:30. We would love to see you there! For this week in language, please check out my webpage (harbolanguage.blogspot.com) to see what we're doing. That's it for now. Blessings to you and your family!

Mrs. Hanson: The church and school will be "Feeding the Cats", the Po-Hi Wildcats that is, this Friday right after school. We would love it if any and all FLS students could be by the cafeteria at 3:30 to cheer the football boys on to a victory that night.

All classes are going amazingly well! I am incredibly proud of the progress of each class. Parent, please always talk to your students about what they are learning. Ask them to teach you something even if you already know it.

All classes will have a quiz by the end of the week. We are shooting for Thursday. This is will be the first quiz of the school year so extra studying and care will need to be taken.

Mr. Covert: We’ve started our third week and we’re moving right along in all of our classes at a pretty good clip! In 8th grade, we’re reaching the ending stages of the Revolutionary War. Next week, we’ll be beginning a primer on Washington DC in preparation for our trip. In 7th grade, we’re discussing the finer points of human geography before we look at different continents and countries. In 6th grade, we’ve covered Mesopotamia, and we’re starting to take a look at ancient Egypt, which we will spend a good amount of time on.

8th grade parents, our DC meeting had to be moved to September 3rd at 5:30 PM. This meeting is mostly for the students; we have a fundraising representative coming to get our magazine sales started. Our trip is almost entirely planned; I am waiting to hear back on a couple more places and then I can put everything in place on the itinerary.

I pray that God blesses all the students and teachers and our whole FLS family this week!
