In thisadvertisement which caused a political up-roar over the last two weeks Kelly, al-though small of frame, shares her hopes forSouth Africa in a powerful voice.

raadslid vir wyk 2, sal die nuwe eien-domswaardasies van 1 Julie vanjaar ge-bruikword omeiendomsbelasting vas testel.Dit beteken nie dat eiendomsbelasting

met dieselfde persentasie gaan toeneemas wat die onderskeie eiendomme inwaarde toegeneem het nie, het sy ges.Die stadsraad begroot wat die eiendoms-belastingvir dienuweboekjaarvan1Ju-lie 2013 tot 30 Junie 2014 sal wees. Eien-domsbelasting word hiervolgens op dienuwe eiendomswaardes bereken.Eiendomseienaars wat nie saamstem

met die nuwe waardasies nie, kry van-jaar twee en n half maande tyd om be-swaar aan te teken. Ingevolge wetge-wing moet eiendomseienaars 30 dae tydvir besware gegee word. Die beswaar-tydperk is van 21 Februarie tot 30 April.Die nuwe waardasies sal op die Stad

se webtuiste beskikbaar wees. Geen be-sware wat na 30 April ontvang word,mag ingevolge wetgewing deur die mu-nisipaliteit oorweeg word nie, waarskuLeonore.

Eienaars van eiendomme sal van 14Februarie deur die munisipaliteit oordie nuwe waardasies ingelig word. Daaris altesaam 17 munisipale punte waardie besware ingedien kan word. Die mu-nisipale geboue in Parow en Bellville endie burgersentrum in Kaapstad is vanhulle.Indien beswaar gemaak word teen n

waardasie, word die belasting op die nu-we waardasie gehef totdat die beswaarafgehandel is. Daar kan beswaar ge-maakword teen enigietswaarmeedie ei-enaar nie saamstem nie. The song of the secretive bird, the Baillonscrake, might at first seem as odd as peopleflying all the way from Johannesburg tosteal a glimpse of this rare bird, ticking itoff on their list and then flying back again.

This oddity by birdwatchers is, however,absolutely justified when it is driven bypassion.

Their need to see that bird, even if it isfor just 40 seconds, isworthmore than theirtime and money.

On 19 January a Baillons crakewas spot-ted at Intaka Island in Century City.

The news hit Twitter and Facebook, wentviral, and soonhundreds of infatuated bird-lovers descended on to the bird sanctuary.

The gates opened an hour-and-a-half ear-lier every morning and repeated sightingsof the bird enticed even more to flock toground zero.

Alan Liebenberg of Century Citys Envi-ronmental Office elaborates: It created astir among tweeters and photographerswho have been descending in their drovesin thehope of catching a glimpse of this nor-mally very elusive bird.We have one previ-ous record of it being spotted at Intaka backin the late 1990s, but it disappeared on thesame day it was seen.

Liebenberg confirms that people came allthe way from Johannesburg to witness thespecial bird.

He adds that since the best chance onehas to see it is early in the morning, theyopened the gates at 06:00 instead of 07:30.

It is a very small and solitary creatureand indeed very rare and is usually foundnear the coastline or in marshy areas. Peo-ple will sit for three hours just to see it forhalf a minute!

Liebenberg says he isnt an avid birder,but admits that he does have an interest inthe hobby.

Three years ago fewer than 10 000 peoplewent to the sanctuary but last year this fig-ure rose to 20 000.

According to him it is a fantastic placeto go and take photos and enjoy the avianwildlife.

When asked what the Baillons crakesounds like he said it is very difficult to ex-plain it.

concerns as to the potentialquality of job we would getfrom Arnies seeing that thequote was so much cheaper,and having done quite a lot ofspray painting on my own carsin my younger days, I have avery high expectation and agood idea of how to distinguishbetween a good spray job andbad spray job. We took thevehicle to Arnies, and he wastold that I am a very difficultcustomer in no uncertainterms. Arnies replied not toworry and four days later wereceived a call to say thevehicle was ready to be collec-ted. To cut a long story short, Iwas astounded at the quality ofthe job, I honestly could notfault it anywhere. The colourmatch was perfect the finishwas blemish-free, no orangepeel or overspray in sight, allthis at half the price of theother quotes. It just goes toshow how some of theseoperators rip off our insurance.There was also a dent on the

The QuadPara Association of South Africa(QASA) was the beneficiary of a fundrais-ing project in which Johann Odendaal un-dertook a long walk from Pretoria to CapeTown.

Odendaal, who left Pretoria on 1 Decem-ber to walk to Cape Town in aid of the or-ganisation, arrived at the Jan van Riebeeckstatue in Cape Town on Sunday 20 January.

His goal with his venture, Project CapeTown, was to raise awareness and fundsfor QASAs road safety awareness cam-paigns to prevent spinal cord injury.

The 2012/2013 festive and holiday seasonhas witnessed more than 1 300 deaths andthousands of injuries from road accidents.

QASA implemented a road safety cam-paign to encourage motorists to use theirseatbelts and also create awareness of therisks of texting and driving.

The final amount of money raised wasnot known at the time of going to press.

When he arrived in Cape Town, he waswelcomed by the Cape Town community,Rotarians, politicians, road safety officialsand people with disabilities among themresidents of the Durbanville QuadriplegicCentre.

out that the music video ends up where theband recorded the album.

The Jesse Jordan Band, or JJB, have been

around for 12 years. Jesse and JP are joinedby Hein Schultz on lead guitar and LoganScott on bass.

JP says discovering the band has beenabout themselves, as well as the music in-dustry.

We are getting to the point where whenwe do the new album, well know exactly

what to do differently, he says.Jesse says he has been working on lots of

projects and even doing some productionwork.

Im doing things I never thought Id dobefore, he says.

And were talking about recording a newsingle, Jesse adds.

For now, they are busy with the finaltouches on their album, before the launch.

I think it will be launched very soon, JPsays, urging fans to keep an eye out.

Thebandreleased thealbum,Ready for theWorld, last year, and they are finally gettingready to release the music video for the titletrack.

The bands meticulous nature meant theyworked on different concepts before theywere happy with the direction of the video.

JP says they had to decide between a sto-ryline video or using conceptual visual ele-ments.

We kind of just had to work with the mes-sage of the song, he says.
