’n Vermeende “skerpskutter”voer ’n skrikbewind in Kruispadnaby die Brackenfell-stasie,waar twee mense reeds metwindbukspatrone gewond is. Diegemeenskap het egter geen ver-troue in die polisie om dié belha-mel vas te trek nie.

’n Student, Amy Williams wat inProteahoogte woonagtig is, het op

17 April van die stasie in die rigingvan Proteaweg gestap toe sy voelhoe iets haar agter die kop tref.

“Dit het gevoel asof iemand mymet ’n klip teen die kop gegooi het,en ek het dadelik na die nabye kafeetoe gehardloop om hulp,” het sy ver-lede week aan TygerBurger vertel.

Sy is later dokter toe, waar hy ’nwindbukspatroon onder haar kop-vel uitgehaal het. Die volgende daghet sy die saak by die Brackenfell-polisiestasie gaan aanmeld, maar

was ontnugter deur die apatiesehouding van die polisieman in dieaanklagkantoor. “Toe ek hom vrawat die polisie oor die probleemgaan doen, het hy my met ’n leë kykin sy oë aangestaar. Dit was asof hynie ’n poging wou aanwend om onste help nie,” sê sy.

Williams, wat elke dag van dietrein gebruik maak om by haarkampus in die stad uit te kom, is ge-traumatiseer deur die aanval en isnou te bang om weer stasie toe te

stap. “As ek uit die trein uitklim,gaan wag ek binne in die stasie virmy ma om my te kom haal. Ek saldit nie waag om weer in Kruispadaf te stap nie. Wat as die persoon myof iemand anders dalk volgendekeer in die oog skiet?” vra sy.

Ná ’n medianavraag van Tyger-Burger het die polisie Williams be-soek en is daar ’n saak aanhangiggemaak vanaanrandingmet die op-set om ernstig te beseer.

Johannes Engelbrecht, ’n afgetre-dene wat in Kruispad regoorkantdie stasie woon, is ook in dieselfdeweek met ’n windbuks aangeval,maar daarna deur die polisie aange-raai om eerder nie ’n saak te maaknie.

Engelbrecht het voor sy huis bydie hek gestaan toe hy agter die oorgeskiet is.

Volgens sy dogter Ansie Mostert

was daar in die laaste twee wekeook ’n aantal duiwe in die gebieddoodgeskiet.

Hulle buurvrou het ook verledeweek ’n koeëlgaatjie in hul slaapka-mervenster aangetref.

“Ons vermoed die skieter het vir’n duif op die wasgoeddraad gemik,en toe die slaapkamervenster ge-tref,” vertel sy.

Volgens Mostert het hulle die po-lisie gebel, maar het die konstabelwat na hulle huis toe gekom het hul-le glo aangeraai om nie ’n saak teopen nie, omdat hulle nie weet wiedie skieter is nie.

“Is die polisie dan nie veronder-stel om die saak te ondersoek sodathulle die skieter kan vastrek nie?”vra Mostert verslae.

“Die aanval het ons nogal geskuden ons is skrikkerig,” sê sy.

Mostert vermoed dat dit dalk jongkinders kan wees wat verantwoor-delik is vir die aanvalle en het ’nvermoede wie dalk verantwoorde-

lik kan wees.Die kafee naby die stasie het ook

deurgeloop.Volgens Williams is daar onlangs

van die kafeevensters uitgeskiet.“As die polisie nie die oortreder

kan vastrek nie, is almal wat Kruis-pad gebruik ’n potensiële teiken,”sê Williams.

Crous sê dat die saak tans onder-soek word en dat alle moontlike lei-drade opgevolg word.

Stasiebevelvoerder kol. Willie Jo-seph sê: “Dit is egter noodsaaklikdat die klaer ook enige bykomendeinligting wat die ondersoek kanhelp, met die ondersoekbeamptedeel. Engelbrecht is welkom om ’nafspraak by my te maak en die be-werings te bespreek. Indien hy ’nklagte teen die lid indien, sal die be-weringe ondersoek word en daad-werklik teen lede opgetree word in-dien daar bevind word dat die klag-te grondig was. Geen wangedragvan lede sal geduld word nie.”

Traffic officers of the City of Cape Townclamped down on drunk drivers and speed-sters in Durbanville and Bellville recently andarrested 12 motorists for driving under the in-fluence.

A total of 324 speeding fines were issued andanother 24 fines for traffic-related offences.

Successful operations were also held inGreen Point, Gordon’s Bay, Milnerton andDelft. These special operations concentratingon drunk driving and speeding resulted in thearrest of 74 suspects altogether.

On Friday 20 April 11 motorists were arrest-ed on charges of drunk driving. Two motorcy-clists were caught driving at 125km/h and129km/h in a 60km/h zone. One motorcyclistfaces further charges of drunk driving as hisbreathalyser reading was positive.

A motorist who crashed his vehicle into the

rear of a scooter was also arrested for drivingunder the influence of alcohol. The rider of thescooter was not injured.

An officer of the Ghost Squad Unit arrestedone motorist for reckless or negligent drivingwhile on his way to the Durbanville road-block. He observed the driver of the VW Polodriving in a reckless manner from Bosmans-dam Road and the N7 all the way toward theN1.

This case was registered at Milnerton PoliceStation.

The following offences relating to speedingwere recorded:

. 54 fines on Fairtrees Avenue (highestspeed 116km/h in a 60km/h zone);

. 7 on Old Oak Road;

. 188 on Durbanville Road, and

. 75 on Durbanville Road.

Die vrou (42) wat hom in Renbaanweg inDurbanville langs die pad sien lê en opgelaaihet, ’n ma van Durbanville, hetTygerBurgerverlede week gebel.

Eben Meyer (47) van Bellville is na bewe-ring deur twee mans saam met hom in poli-sie-aanhouding doodgeslaan en -geskop.

Die polisie se mediawoordvoerder, kapt.Frederick van Wyk, het vroeër gesê Meyeris omstreeks 01:00 vir openbare dronken-skap in hegtenis geneem en is ’n halfuur la-ter in die selle oorlede.

Meyer, wat werksaam was as ’n klerk indie vragkantoor van die Suid-AfrikaanseLugdiens, het vroeër die aand by die Stones-kroeg by die Palmgrove-sentrum in Durban-ville gekuier.

Volgens Van Wyk het die polisie hom opdie stoep by die polisiekantoor gekry en inhegtenis geneem op ’n klag van openbaredronkenskap.

Hy is saam met agt ander dronk mans in’n sel toegesluit.

Volgens die vrou, wat anoniem wil bly,maar aan TygerBurger bekend is, was sy,haar man en nog ’n paartjie van Kaapstadop pad huis toe onderweg toe hulle om-streeks 22:30 in Renbaanweg gery het.

Sy het bestuur, omdat sy die aand niks ge-drink het nie. Sy het die man op die gruisreg langs die pad op sy maag sien lê enkelemeters voor die verkeerslig by die hoek vanSt. John’sweg.

“Ek was so geskok toe ek hom daar sienlê. Nie een van die ander in die motor hethom gesien nie,” het sy gesê.

“Ons het eers gedink hy is dalk gekaap enis by sykaruitgegooi.Onshetnie geweetwatom te verwag nie. Ons het hom gevra watsoek hy daar. Hy was heeltemal verward enhet gesê hy weet nie hoe hy daar gekom hetnie,” het sy gesê.

“Ons vriend het hom gehelp om op testaan. ’n Mens kon aan sy asem ruik dat hygedrink het.

“Hy het gesê hy is reg en dat hy verdergaan huis toe stap. Ons het gesê ons kan homnie daar los nie, wantiemand kan homraakry of beroof.

“Hy het egter geenkarsleutels of ’n beur-sie by hom gehad nie.Sy hemp was ook aandie voorkant oopge-knoop, seker maaroor hy warm gekryhet van die lang ent sestap,” het sy gesê.

“Ons het vir homgesê dat ons hom nadie polisiekantoorgaan vat en dat hullesal seker maak hykom by die huis uit.

“Hy kon eers nie onthou waar hy bly nie,maar het later gesê hy bly in Oakdale in Bell-ville. Hy was baie ordentlik. My vriend hetnog gespot en gesê hy moet bly wees ek hethom raakgesien. Hy kon ons nie ophou be-dank nie. Ek het gedink hy is so ’n ordentlikeman.

“Hy was bang om na die polisiekantoor tegaan, bang dat hulle hom sou toesluit en hetgesê hy sal liewers self huis toe loop, maarons het hom oortuig dat ons sal sorg dat diepolisie hom nie opsluit nie.

“Daar was twee polisiemanne in die aan-klagkantoor. Ons vriend het aan die polisiegesê dat ons hom in Renbaanweg gekry het,

maar dat hy ’n ordentlike ou is en niks ver-keerd gedoen het nie. Ons het die polisie ge-vra dat hulle hom net huis toe sal neem.

“Hy was so onwillig om uit te klim. Hy hetons gesmeek om hom nie daar te los nie. Ekvoel vreeslik. Pleks dat ons hom net huis toegevat het.

“Ons vriend het nog vir hom gesê hy moetnie worry nie, die polisie gaan hom by diehuis kry.”

“Ons het hom op die bankie binne laat sit.Ons is toe daar weg.

“Ek het ongemaklikgevoel toe ons wegry.Ek was bekommerdwat met hom gaan ge-beur.

“Toe sien ek die be-rigte dat hy dood is.Ons wroeg nou almaldaaroor dat ons homliewers moes huis toegevat het. Ons voel am-per dis ons skuld dathy dood is.

“Ek sal nooit weerna die polisie gaannie,” het sy gesê.

Volgens Moses Dla-mini, woordvoerder van die polisie se onaf-hanklike polisie-ondersoekende direktoraat(Opod), is die ondersoek nog nie afgehandelnie.

“Sodra die ondersoek afgehandel is, sal diedossier na die senior staatsaanklaer gestuurword vir ’n beslissing of vervolging ingestelmoet word of nie,” het hy gesê.

’n Gedenkdiens is Maandag by die Dur-banville-gedenktuin gehou, gevolg deur ’nprivate verassing.

. Daniel Dyosi (40) en Sipho Mhlanga (29),albei haweloos, sal volgende Donderdag indie Bellville-landdroshof vir ’n borgtogaan-soek verskyn.

Die Helping Angels, ’n organisasie wattwee voedingskemas behartig, het on-langs ’n stewige hupstoot van R8 000 ont-vang, danksy ’n projek van twee finalistein die Mnr. en Mej. Bellville-kompetisie.

BiancaViljoen enMynhardtKrüger is tweevan die 12 finaliste in dié kompetisie waarvandie kroning op 10 Mei plaasvind en hulle hetmet ’n vertoning by die Barn- yard by Wil-lowbridge op Woensdag 25 April geld vir dieorganisasie ingesamel.

Die Dancing in the Streets-vertoning is ’nrockpartytjie van musiek van feeste van reg-oor die wêreld.

Elke finalismoes ’n organisasiekieswathul-le ondersteun en dié twee se keuse het op dieHelping Angels geval.

“Baie mense help diere-organisasies, soveelso dat mense eintlik afgeskeep word,” sê Myn-hardt.

Dít, asook die “skrikwekkende klein by-drae” wat die staat aan sulke organisasies af-staan, het hul keuse van organisasie beïn-vloed.

“Ons wou ook persoonlik betrokke raak bydie mense van die organisasie en baie min or-ganisasies laat jou dít toe,” sê hy.

Bianca sê die geldinsameling vir die HelpingAngels gaan nie bloot daaroor om vir ’n groepmense kos te gee nie, maar dat hulle deur hulprojek bou aan die toekoms.

“Die Helping Angels is een van die min or-ganisasies waarby jy op ’n een-tot-een-basisbetrokke kan raak,” sê Bianca.

Mynhardt en Bianca het ’n totaal van 140kaartjies verkoop, waarvan hulle R40 perkaartjie ontvang het.

Lootjies, waarmee ’n tafel by die Barn-yard gewen kon word, is ook op die aand vandie vertoning verkoop.

“Kinders is die toekoms van môre en hullemoet ondersteun word, maar sonder die se-nior burgers se insig en kennis sal kindersnie die toekoms van môre kan wees nie,” sêMynhardt.

In die vertoning word lande vanoor diewêreld “besoek” en ’n uitbeelding van die

feeste in die spesifieke lande word gemaak.Van die Pienk Gay-parade in Australië, tot

St. Patricksdag in Ierland is uitgebeeld. An-der plekke se feeste sluit in New Orleans, Riode Janeiro, Jamaica, die VSA, Suid-Afrika enNew York.

Mynhardt en Bianca het ook ’n sokkerspanvan die Bottelaryskool uitgenooi.

“As ’n mens sien waar hierdie kinders van-daan kom, besef jy hoe spesiaal vanaand virhulle is,” het Francois du Toit, voorsitter vandie Bottelary-Aksie gesê.

“Bottelary is ’n boeregemeenskap van ar-moede. Die behoefte is groot, maar daarmeesaam kom soveel opheffingsgeleenthede,” hethy gesê.

’n Hersiening van die formule om diebrandstofprys te bepaal, of ’n moontlikevermindering van brandstofheffings, isdalk die reddingsboei wat Jan Allemanvan ’n gewisse ekonomiese ramp kan red.

Baie is dit eens dat die regering sal moetingryp, noudat die petrolprys weer vandag(Woensdag) met 28 sent per liter styg, en diedaaropvolgende styging in lewenskostes diemeerderheid van Suid-Afrikaners se sakkegaan ruk.

Die nasionale energie-reguleerder (Ner-sa), wat verantwoordelik is vir die vasstel-ling van die prys van petrol, het die aankon-diging verlede week gemaak.

Dit volg na ’n 34 sent per liter-verhogingaan die einde van Januarie, ’n 28 sent per li-ter-verhoging aan die einde van Februarie,en ’n 71 sent per liter-verhoging einde Maart.

In die geheel het die petrolprys dus metR1.61 gestyg, ’n enorme 15.17 persent in netvier maande.

Hy voeg ook by datNersa die formule moet herdink wat tans ge-bruik word om die brandstofprys te bepaal.“Die formule is oorsensitief vir kortermyn-skommelinge in die olieprys en rand/dollar-wisselkoers,” het hy verlede week gesê.

Gary Ronald van die AA voel egter dat dieformulehersienings slegs ’n klein en eenma-lige vermindering teweeg gaan bring. In 2004het dit neergekom op ’n 20c-vermindering indie brandstofprys.

Volgens hom is dit eerder die nasionalebrandstofheffing wat tans sowat R1,97 is, watverminder moet word.

“Die heffing besorg die staatskas sowatR30 biljoen per jaar wat gebruik word om na-sionale paaie in stand te hou,” sê hy en voegby dat die regering eerder moet oorweeg omdie fondse te sny, omdat baie werk aan nasio-nale paaie oorgedoen moet word as gevolgvan substandaard werk.

‘Hersien petrolprysom ramp te keer’

Borg is toegestaan aan Johan van der Merwe(52) van Brackenfell, wat teregstaan op diemoord van die plaaslike onderwyseres Sule-ne de Klerk.

Van der Merwe het verlede Donderdag ’nformele borgaansoek gebring by die Kuilsri-

vier-landdroshof. Die staat het die borgaan-soek teengestaan op grond van die ernstigeaard van die misdaad, maar borg is wel toe-gestaan met voorwaardes.

A teacher at Gene Louw Primary im-pressed the judges with her life story andcharity drama project and was selected asone of 35 semi-finalists in the Mrs SouthAfrica 2012 competition.

Ingrid Burger (37), who grew up in Durban-ville, is also a mother of three boys.

She wants to use her position as a semi-fi-nalist to further her studies in drama therapyand get other drama therapists involved tohelp traumatised children to cope throughdrama therapy sessions.

Life took Ingrid on her own journey of hap-piness, sadness and despair when her firstmarriage fell apart.

She studied teaching at the University ofStellenbosch and specialised in special needsteaching.

She starteddoingmodellingworkat the ageof 21 after she was chosen as a finalist for MissSA Western Cape in 1996.

She got married in 1998 and after workingin South Africa for a year, moved to the UKto further specialise in special needs teaching.

“I was lucky to work at a private school inLondon, specifically catering for children withvarious special needs, emotional and learningdifficulties,” she said.

It was during this time that she studied part-time and started a drama club at the school forthese children.

“They absolutely loved it and their personal-ities came to life! I started realising the amaz-ing effects of drama on children. Drama actual-ly started playing a therapeutic role in theirlives,” she said.

When her first son was about a year old in2003, she had a miscarriage. Her marriage thencame under strain.

She found out that she was pregnant again,but her husband confessed that he did not be-lieve in their marriage any more.

“I begged him to stay and he agreed to staythroughout my pregnancy until the baby wasborn,” she said

In 2004, after the birth of her second son,she returned to South Africa alone with hertwo boys, the one aged two, the other a meresix weeks.

“Back in South Africa, my husband ad-mitted his affair of over a year. He also ad-mitted to his child born out of the affair.

“I started feeling the pressures of beinga single parent and felt sorry for myself onnumerous occasions for the way my fairy-tale was panning out.

“I lived in a very small two-bedroom gran-ny flat with the boys and had to commuteto town where I worked at a school similarto the one I worked for in London.

“When my oldest son, Aidan, was fourand Rueben two, I met a lovely man whogave me reason to believe in miracles againand fairytale romances,” she said.

They got married five years ago and havea boy, Lohan, who is three.

“All of my life experiences have helpedme to understand people better and to havecompassion for others and be less judgmen-tal, but more forgiving and accepting of oth-ers,” she said.

“Drama therapy con-centrates on play andimprovising. Dramatherapy is concentrat-ing on making the pa-tient feel comfortableand not necessarilymaking an immediatebreakthrough in theirprogress. Childrenmake more progress us-ing drama therapy.

“Through the use ofrole-play and other suchimprovisational skillsand fun activities suchas mask making, chil-dren are allowed to ex-plore their feelings in asafe environment,” shesaid.

She started her owntwo drama schools, Dra-ma-Drama at GeneLouw Primary Schooland Take One at the Hei-dekoppie church inBrackenfell, at the be-ginning of this year.

“I have children withvarious backgroundsand try and use tech-niquesof drama therapyto empower them for sit-uations they might en-counter in their lives,”she said.

“If I earn the title forMrs South Africa, Iwould love to build onthis type of therapy.

“I would like to equip myself further in dra-ma therapy and get drama therapists in-volved with me to give children the opportu-nity to enrol for drama therapy sessions,” shesaid.

She plans to present drama workshops atthe Attie van Wyk Primary School outsideDurbanville and other needy organisations.

“I would need financial support to be ableto follow this dream of mine and further mystudies in therapy,” she said.

The semi-finalists for the Mrs South Africacompetition will attend the semi-final judg-ing round taking place in Johannesburg from1 to 3 June.

The top 20 finalists will be officially an-nounced on Sunday 3 June. They will go onto compete during a pageant week and galaevent during November after which the win-ner will be announced.

Toe Luanne Mulder van Blommendal sebroer haar pols om in te skryf vir die Mej.Aarde-kompetisie (Miss Earth) wou sy aan-vanklik niks daarvan hoor nie. “Ek doen nieskoonheidskompetisies nie,” sê Luanne. Toesy eers uitvind waaroor die kompetisie gaanhet sy haar mening verander, want hierdiewas iets waarmee sy ’n verskil kon maak.

Luanne is een van honderde hoopvolleswat ingeskryf het vir dié kompetisie, maareen van slegs 10 streekfinaliste wat in diekompetisie gekies is.

Mej. Aarde Suid-Afrika is ’n program watdeur kennis jong Suid-Afrikaanse vroue be-magtig en ’n platform skep om ’n volhoubareverskil temaak indie stryd teendievernieti-ging van ons natuurlike erfenis.

Die kompetisie fokus op die bewusmakingvan die omgewing, wildlewe en die bewa-ring van die natuurlike nalatenskap in Suid-Afrika.

Alle deelnemers het ’n intense omge-wingswerkwinkel gevolg oor kernkrag, diebewaring van seevoëls en elke individu seimpak op die aarde.

Wes-Kaapse streeksdeelnemers is blootge-stel aan die probleme, oplossings en aksie-planne wat hulle sou implementeer indienhulle nasionale finaliste word.

Dié kompetisie is so reg in Luanne sekraal, want nie net is sy gaande oor die buite-lewe nie (’n gunsteling-tydverdryf is om methaar bergfiets te gaan ry, veral in Jonkers-hoek), maar sy is ook reeds 10 jaar ’n vegeta-riër. “Ek was ’n culture vulture op skool,” sêLuanne.

Oor die omgewing is sy passievol. “Ekdink nie ons waardeer genoeg wat ons hetnie. Ek kan dit nie hanteer as mense die na-tuur skade aandoen nie,” sê sy.

Haar liefde vir die natuur is deur haar ma,Riëtte, gekweek. “Sy het van jongs af vir onsgeleer om die aarde te beskerm. Lojaliteit eneerlikheid is nog twee eienskappe wat haarma hulle geleer het.

Luanne is ook passievol oor haar taal enkultuur.

As morbid as it may sound, extinctioncannot be ruled out any more. With SouthAfrica hosting 93 percent of the world’swhite rhino and about 40 percent of Afri-ca’s much rarer black rhino, the onus ison our government and nature conserva-tion to keep these animals safe. But it’s notthat easy – the poachers have becomemuch more organised and brutal.

It boggles the Western mind that theAsian demand for the animal’s horn isworth more than its weight in gold. Thestreet value of rhino horn has skyrocketedto $65 000/kg, against $52 500/kg of gold atcurrent spot prices.

Rhino horn has been used for centuriesin traditional Chinese medicine and aslong as there’s a demand, no rhino is safe.

The question is, what can Joe Public doto stop the poaching? Not much, except forsupporting worthy causes.

One such cause is the Rocking for Rhi-nos concert taking place this weekend out-side Durbanville. The proceeds will go tothe rehabilitation of a male rhino namedHiggins that lost 80 percent of his eyesightin a poaching attack at Fairy Glen Reservenear Cape Town. So why not make a differ-ence and have fun at the same time?

What’s the cat solution?I am responding to the letter from Theo ofBrackenfell whose cat was darted (“Dartingmy cat was a disgraceful act”, Tygerburger25 April).

I am sorry that there are people (kids oradults) that would be able to do somethinglike that to an animal. But I need to expressmy frustration and ask advice of pet owners.

I am a single mother and just love animalseven though I am not a pet owner. As expen-sive as life is I am trying my best to keep mygarden in good condition. I do everythingmyself as there is no money to get someoneto do it for me. Every day when I come homefrom work half of my garden is a mess be-cause of cats lying on my flowers/plants.

When I open my front door it smells so badof cat urine that I have to close my dooragain. They do not even close the holes theymake and the soil ends up on the paving. Thearea where I keep my firewood has been in-vaded by kittens that use it as a litter box.

I know it’s not an animal that you can keepin your yard/house. But I think it’s unfairto me to spend money to keep your animalout of my garden. That’s why I can under-stand to some extent that people get frustrat-ed and desperate. If you have any ideas howI can keep your animal out of my gardenwithout upsetting you, please let me know!

singing for their mate.We can’t sleep but you sleep like a baby.They poop in other gardens and the own-

ers do not follow them to pick up their poop;we have to go after that terrible smell to pickit up. I am at the stage to contact the SPCA. I be-lieve they drop off a basket that lures the catin and once you have caught it, they comeand pick it up. My poor neighbour next doorto me, have a little bird. Twice these catscame into her house to catch the bird, if thathappened what would you have done?

The next Adopt-A-Pet event by Paws fora Cause will be held on Saturday (5 May)and Sunday 6 May from 10:00 to 13:00 atthe Cape Garden Centre in JoostenbergVlakte.

Adoption days will be held throughoutthis year on the first Saturday and Sundayof every month.

Paws for a Cause in Cape Town is an ani-mal relocation program which is based inthe northern suburbs.

“The Uitsig Animal Rescue is in a criticalstage with food supplies running extremelylow,” said Alischa Cijter, organiser of theAdopt-a-Pet events.

“We want to help raise funds for UitsigAnimal Rescue and would like to hand themover another R10 000 by the end of nextmonth.

“This will help them greatly with theirsterilisation programmes each month,” shesaid.

“Wewant to takea loadoff their shouldersso they will be able to feed all their wonder-ful furries.

“Any other donations are always neededsuch as blankets, cat litter, food, dewormer,detick, shampoos, collars and leads, toysand treats,” she said.

Cijter also thanked Claudia Kruger, whoworked closely with Curro Private Schoolto collect uncountable animal food.

“Thank you so much for making a changein these animals’ lives and also supportingUitsig Animal Rescue in these hard times,”she said.

She also thanked Shane Myburg and Rea-na van Tonder for showing their support asvolunteers for Paws for a Cause.

“I also want to thank all our volunteerswho join us each month. You make ourevents possible and without your care anddetermination on our days, we couldn’t dowhat we have done the past years.”

Mona Leukes, wat in Montague Gardens vir’n skoonmaakmaatskappy werk, se baksteen-huisie, op ’n erf wat sy gekoop het, het in Janua-rie afgebrand. Haar twee dogters van 10 en 15woon by haar.

In Maart het haar werkgewer haar na LouiseSpies, die bestuurder van Living Network Mi-nistries, geneem. Living Network-krisissen-trum is ’n Christelike organisasie wat in 2002gestig is as ’n bediening van Vredelust se NGgemeente.

Louise is een Saterdagoggend na die perseelwaar die huis gestaan het en het na dié besoekaan die werk gespring om Mona te help.

“Ek het onthou van ’n Wendyhuis-projek vandie Presbiteriaanse kerk in Bellville en het hul-le gebel vir raad en moontlike hulp,” vertel Lou-ise.

Binne ’n week is die huis opgerig.Louise het met die senior lidmate van Vrede-

lust-gemeente gesels vir moontlike skenkingsen binne ’n paar uur het ’n bakkie met ’n bed,beddegoed, ’n kas en breekgoed by die huis op-gedaag. Die NG gemeente Welgemoed het ookhulle harte oopgemaak en klere, toiletware en’n bedkamerkassie by die huis laat aflewer.

’n Wasbak, stort en toilet is teen R1 300 in diehuis geïnstalleer, en al wat nog kort is kraneen ’n stortkop.

“Mona kan nie uitgepraat raak oor alles watsy ontvang het nie. Sy kan nie glo hoe mensewat haar nie ken nie, weer vir haar ’n dak oorhaar kop gegee het nie,” sê Louise.

Aanhangers van Andriëtte Nor-man kan “’n lekker kuier” ver-wag by haar vertoning vandees-week by Die Boer.

Sy tree van vanaand (Woensdag)tot Vrydag by Die Boer op met haarorkes.

Andriëtte sê sy probeer altyd om’n verrassing in te gooi, veral methaar shows by Die Boer, en sal diéweek musiek van al drie haar al-bums sing, asook ouer liedjies.

Andriëtte het in 2007 ’n huishou-delike naam geword toe sy deel vandie Idols-kompetisie was.

Sy sê die kompetisie was ’n goeiewegspringplek vir haar sangloop-baan.

“As dit nie vir dit was nie, sou eknie vir ’n lewe kon gesing het nie,”sê sy.

Voor Idol, het Andriëtte as ’nskoonheidsterapeut gewerk en netby klein kompetisies en troues ge-sing. Nou is Andriëtte se dae om-trent vol. Sy sê sy werk tussen haarkantoor in Brackenfell, wat sy methaar agent Alice Gerber deel en

haar salon. Dit is in haar kantoordat sy en Alice haar dagboek en be-sprekings beplan.

Andriëtte doen baie onderhoudeen bestee elke dag ’n uur met haarpersoonlike afrigter in die gimnasi-um.

taarspeler vir Tripjas, wat on-langs hul nuwe EP vrygestel het.

En dit is gewis so. Met hul inte-ressante musiek en hul warm enprikkelende lirieke, maak diegroep harte (en bene) lam.

Rudolph Maree, die groep sesanger, sê dat lirieke baie belang-rik is vir Tripjas. Hy sê elke per-soon in die gehoor moet ten min-ste een keer in hul show hoender-vleis kry.Danweethullehullehethul werk gedoen.

Tripjas al drie jaar saam, metReghardt van Rensburg op drom-me en Chris Nightingale op baski-taar.

Phonnie Burger, die groep senuwe kitaarspeler, speel nog net

’n paar weke vir Tripjas, maar isal klaar deel van die familie.

Die Tripjas-projek is vyf jaaraan die gang en die groep het albaie demo’s in hierdie tyd opge-neem, maar Rudolph sê hulle isversigting om nie soos baie anderjonger groepe te vinnig te “pop”nie.

Een van die redes hoekom Trip-jas so goed werk, is omdat hullejuis nie só jonk is nie. Van die ledeis vir tien jaar al op die verhoogen daar is ’n volwassenheid watin hul musiek uitstraal. “Ons isbaie krities op onsself,” sê Le-roux.

Rudolph verduidelik dat vandie liedjies op die EP in 2000 ge-skryf is en dat baie van hul lied-jies deur die jare verander het.

Leroux voeg by dat selfs van dieliedjies wat op die EP is, al ont-

wikkel het nadat hulle dit opge-neem het. Tripjas kan ook hulvertoning aanpas vir hulle ge-hoor. “Ons pas in by die meesteplekke,” sê Rudolph. The four of them ca-rouse in the bars of Paris when they can af-ford to, and in Marcello’s garret when theycan’t.

As a bitter winter draws in, Mimì’s healthworsens, and she and Rodolfo decide shewould be better off finding herself a sugar

daddy. But this being opera and they beingBohemian, the force of their passion prevailsand Mimì draws her last breath in true Bohe-mian fashion – penniless but in love, sur-rounded by her friends. Cue tears.

Coupled with snow scenes, live marchingbands and the supremely evocative, elegant,almost sepia-tinted sets of award-winningdesigner Michael Mitchell, this is likely tobe a very exciting production. Set in a Parisnewly liberated from the Nazis, the sense ofworld change and philosophical enlighten-ment is as vivid as the physical and mentalscars of recent war. Siyabonga Tyandela once againshowed why he is so highly ratedwhen he had little trouble win-ning the overall heavyweight ti-tle at the Reeds N1 City WesternProvince Kyokushin-kan cham-pionship.

Tyandela also received an inviteto compete in the Kyokushin WorldUnion European Championshipheld from 8 to 10 June in Moscow.

With well over 300 hundred en-tries competing in the provincialchampionship two weeks ago atUCT, the bar of competition wasraised since it was the first time in10 years that the different Ky-okushin organisations competedagainst each other.

Matthys Loubscher (Welgemoed)was impressive in winning gold inthe boys’ u-15 under 70kg division.

Kerry Robison (Bothasig) whocompeted in the girls’ u-15 over 70kgdivisionwongoldandMichelle Jou-bert, who was punted as the favour-ite, in the girls’ u-15 under 70kg alsodidn’t disappoint as she won yet an-other gold medal.

Tristan Venter (Brackenfell) whois a provincial champion in theboys’ u-7 under 20kg divisionshowed his class with another im-pressive win under his belt.

Kyokushin-kan South Africa re-ceived an invitation to compete inthe first ever Korea InternationalJunior Kyokushin Tournamentfrom 4 to 5 August.

With the upcoming internationaltraining camp this weekend atJonkershoek, the juniors will begiven a stern test as this will serveas preparation for this internation-al tournament.
