Go show yourselves to the PrIests

In today's Gospel, the Lord invites the people to 'go to the priests'. Myself, as a priest, I love it when people come to me. To share their joys, but also their challenges. Everyone, they are always welcome. But I also love going out to the people and not just waiting for them to come to me, as if I was an 'office only minister'. That is why I want to thank those of you who welcomed me in your homes, went out with me for coffee, lunch, or dinner.

These are the moments when we are able to strengthen and grow the bonds of fraternal love. Each time I serve you, I look at you with sincere love, and I mean it. I want you to know that I don't only serve you, but I receive a lot from each one of you. I admire you for the efforts you make to live your Catholic life. You are a true inspiration to me. I learn from you and I grow because of you. It is important to say this once in a while, and as a priest, I would like you all to know that I love you with a priestly heart.

Next Sunday, we will celebrate the communal Anointing of the Sick at sev-eral of our weekend Masses. We invite everyone to participate in Mass and pray for all the sick as well as bring friends and family members who can receive the Anointing. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is not only reserved for those who are at the point of death, but also for those who are gravely ill due to serious illness, frailty due to age, or for those prepar-ing for surgery.

Pastoral hoMe MInIstry blessInG next sunday

During the week of October 16th – 22nd, medical institutions throughout the U.S. celebrate Pastoral Care Week by honoring the vital work and gifts of pastoral/spiritual care givers locally and internationally. We are blessed to have several parishioners who collaborate with our Pastoral Home Ministry outreach by bringing Holy Communion to those parishioners who are unable to attend Mass. As a sign of our support and appreciation, we will offer them a special blessing next weekend.

welcoMe deacon GabrIel lee I am from Seoul, Korea, as well as my family. I came to the United States in 2003 to study English. All of my family resides in the Santa Clara area. I came to the United States of America before finishing my junior high. I attended Sierra Junior and High School in Cupertino. After high school, I started my general education at San Jose City College in 2008 while living at the Blessed Miguel Pro Formation House as a seminarian. After acquiring an AA degree, I transferred to the St. Patrick Seminary to attain a

BA in philosophy. Currently, I am in fourth year Theology as a transitional deacon for the Diocese of San Jose. Before I began my studies for the priesthood, I was an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at St. Justin’s Parish in San Jose. While in the seminary, I started to teach Catechism at Holy Korean Martyrs. I also served at O’Connor Hospital and prison for ministry before and after my Pastoral Year at Sacred Heart Parish in Saratoga. This year, I am assigned to St. Thomas Aquinas Parish. God willing, I will be ordained to the priesthood this coming June. I look forward to meeting all of you as I journey through-out the parish over the coming months.

world MIssIon collectIon - next sunday

World Mission Sunday, organized by the Society of the Propagation of the Faith, is a day set aside for Catholics worldwide to recommit themselves to the Church’s mis-sionary activity through prayer and sacrifice. During this year’s 90th anniversary, World Mission Sunday cel-ebration relates its theme to the Year of Mercy: “Mercy Changes the World.” Pope Francis notes, “The mercy of God is His loving concern for each one of us…. As the Father loves, so do His children. Just as He is merciful, so we are called to be merciful to each other.” Please keep the Missions in your daily prayers. Please come prepared next weekend to give generously in the collec-tion for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.

Pledged: $159,338 Pledge Balance: $7,985

Please keep making your regular payments. When all our pledges have been paid, St. Thomas Aquinas will receive a much needed rebate to help us pay for improvements to our parish facilities. Thank you for your support of Bishop McGrath and our local Church.
