de ar PAD Rf,

I'm tired ofbeing didraded b dfl&a slidingaromd in the pews'

fifudingm$anfu and giglingwith eadt drer. Howwculdfrrepries likeparurts tohandle thes sitratims duringMas*

I presume you mean children between the ages of two and

six--children too old to be crying in their parents' arms and

too young to be in religious-education prograrns. Manyparishes have children's Liturgy of the Word programs, butthe kids still spend time at regular Mass.

It's importmt for kids to be at Mass and to learn to be quietfor an hour.

When ohildren come to Mass, they slowly get used to the idea

that they're expected to behave for a limited amount oftime.

Pments could bring books or soft toys-anything thd won'tmake more noise*to keep them entertained. . .If childrencontinue to be disruptive, pments can take them outside for ashort time and then bring them back.

Bottom line: Priests want children to come to Mass. It'sbetter to have fidgeting children at Mass than no children at

all. We want them to learn to behave now so when they get

older theyte ready to deepen their participation in the Mass.
