Wisconsin motorists would be able topurchase a specialized license plate thatwould help benefit the Midwest AthletesAgainst Childhood Cancer (MACC) Fundunder a bill that has been introduced byRep. Janel Brandtjen (R-Menomonee Falls)and Duey Strobel (R-Cedarburg).

Assembly Bill 401 would allow a personinterested in supporting the MACC Fund topurchase a plate for the regular vehicleregistration fee along with a $15 fee forthe special plates and a $25 payment thatwould go toward the MACC Fund.

The bill was unveiled during a newsconference at Children's Hospital in

Wauwatosa Dec. 7. John McGlocklin, pres-ident and co-founder of the MACC Fund.McGlocklin noted the fund was founded byhe and then-Milwaukee Bucks announcerEddie Doucette 39 years ago. In the firstyear of the fund, $35,000 was raised andthe cure rates for childhood cancer were20 percent. The fund has now raised $55million, while cure rates are now around80 percent, McGlocklin said.

Brandtjen explained that she wasasked about proposing such a bill afterMenomonee Falls residents Mattnew andTricia Verhaalen created the "ChildhoodCancer" license plate to benefit the MACCFund. The Verhaalens lost their daughter

Alison to childhood cancer."Creating this legacy, hope for others,

is a tremendous tribute to their entirefamily," Brandtjen said.

The Verhaalens were at the news con-ference with their son Tyler. MatthewVerhaalen said their daughter Alison was

and Mrs.Claus. Moms and Dads bringtheir cameras to capture those treas-ured photos as their children enjoytheir magical moment with Santa.

Breakfast With Santa, sponsored bythe Germantown Kiwanis Club, is achance for Germantown familes to getinto the holiday spirit with an All-You-Can-Eat Pancake breakfast and all thetrimmings, plus a photo with Santa andMrs. Claus. Once again this year Santawill bring his reindeer. That’s right, realreindeer. There will be photo opportu-nities with the reindeer as well. Theevent will be held Sunday, December20, 2015 from 8 AM until Noon at theFlorian Park Convention Center,N111W18611 Mequon Road in

Germantown.Germantown Moms and Dads areencouraged to bring their cameras forChristmas photos with Santa, Mrs.Claus and their reindeer. The full break-fast meal includes pancakes, eggs,sausages and all the fixings. TheKiwanis Pancake Breakfast has becomea Germantown family tradition. TheMacArthur School 4th and 5th Gradechoir will lead the hall in Christmas car-ols. The Germantown High School choirwill also perform. Children may viewChristmas movies in Santa’s Workshop.

With all of the stress of the holidaysupon us, this is one event that is meantto take the pressure off Mom for a dayand allow each family to get thosetreasured family photos for Christmas.

It will be a memorable experience forevery child in Germantown.

Asked if the event is a fund raiserfor Kiwanis, Germantown KiwanisPresident Dwayne Ketterer smiled andsaid, “We wouldn’t be doing it just toraise money. We plan the event hopingto break even on the cost.” He added,“This is an event put on for our com-munity. We do it for the smiles it bringsto the children … just to see the lookson their faces when they get to talkwith Santa and Mrs. Claus. That’s price-

Plans for a 73-lot subdivision in thevillage of Sussex are moving forwardfollowing a joint meeting of the SussexVillage Board and the village's PlanCommission Dec. 8.

The subdivision is proposed on landeast of Maple Avenue and south of Clover Drive. The Village Board changedthe land use portion of the

Comprehensive Plan from agriculturaland open lands to medium single fami-ly residential.

During a public hearing on the landuse change, developer Wade Balson saidthe subdivision is divided between thevillage of Sussex and the town of Libson. He said the town of Lisbon por-tion of the development would addressstormwater issues while the Sussexportion would contain the roads. Hesaid an attempt would be made to keepthe two existing tree lines on the site.

He said the lot sizes would range from12,000 to 22,000 square feet.

During the public hearing, a Lisbonresident said that stormwater should beretained so flooding doesn't occur.Sussex Village Administrator JeremySmith late read a letter from a residentwhich stated that the residents of asubdivision directly south along

Northview Drive do not want to be con-nected to the new subdivision, as theexisting subdivision has narrow streets,no curbs or sidewalks and no street-lights. The letter stated that the newsubdivision, if connected to the exist-ing one, would bring additional trafficand would be a safety hazard for manyresidents.

The Village Board and the PlanCommission then held a joint publichearing to review a request to changethe zoning from A-1 Agricultural to RS-

3 Single Family District with a PlannedOverlay District. Residents repeatedsimilar concerns during the rezoningpublic hearing.

During the public hearing, Balsonsaid he has met with Lisbon andWaukesha County officials aboutaddressing stormwater issues for theproject. He said test borings were done

to determine where bedrock was locat-ed, and said no blasting will occur forbasements on the bottom two-thirds of the property. In portions of the upperthird of the property where there isseven feet of cover, basements will belocated higher and the property will begraded to account for that. Balson alsosaid it does not appear blasting willneed to occur to install sewer. He saidthe subdivision would receive sewer andwater service from the village of Sussex.

The Germantown girls basketballteam changed the pace late in secondhalf against Hamilton Dec. 8, going onan 11-2 run on the way to a 63-58 non-conference win over the Chargers.

Germantown took control in thefirst half, as a basket by Piper Browngave Germantown a 21-12 lead with lessthan eight minutes before halftime.But Hamilton cut in to the lead and a

layup by Taylor Klug tied the score at28-28. Brown finished the scoring forthe first half with two free throws with38 seconds remaining.

Hamilton had the advantage duringthe early part of the second half, as a

free throw by Jordan Fierst gave theChargers a 44-38 lead with 14:13remaining. A three-point basket byFierst two minutes later prompted aGermantown time out. The Warhawksthen cut into the Hamilton lead, as alayup by Kenzie Schmitz made the score50-49 in favor of Hamilton. A three-point basket by Chloe Bingenheimer atthe 6:41 mark was then followed by abasket Megan Ische, who converted alayup at the 6:03 mark after a team-

mate stole the ball on Hamilton's end of the court. Those points were part of an11-2 run that gave Germantown a 61-62lead with 3:01 remaining.

Hamilton cut the lead to 61-57 fol-lowing a free throw by Macy Williamswith 35 seconds remaining, but couldnot get any closer.

Afterward, Germantown Coach MattStuve noted his team had easier gameswithin the previous week.

"It took them awhile to realize youstill want to attack and get after them,"Stuve said. (Hamilton's) guards are asgood as you're going to see athleticallyand skill wise," Stuve said.

Schmitz was the leadingscorer for the game with 20points while Klug scored 17for Hamilton. Stuve notedthat Schmitz and Klug haveplayed against each otherduring the summer season.

"Kenzie played a lot of minutes and expended a lotof energy, but so did Klug,"Stuve said. He add that with Klug,"you're never going to completely keep

her from scoring, but make her get a lotof attempts to get her points, and wedid a pretty good job of that."

Germantown and Hamilton are inthe same postseason sectional bracket,and he noted that last year Hamiltonwas a sixth seed with 15 wins.

"That's the kind of competitionwe're going to have to set ourselves upfor," Stuve added.

Afterward, Hamilton had an 0-1record in the Greater Metro Conferenceand a 4-2 overall mark. Hamilton lost toDivine Savior Holy Angels Dec. 3, 67-56.Klug led Hamilton with 18 points. Twodays later Hamilton beat Milton, 71-62,

with Klug scoring 22 poinHamilton.

Hamilton's Jacob Hartung converted six three pointbaskets on the way to scoring 39 points against RacineHorlick Dec. 4, as the Chargers won the nonconferencegame, 76-63.

Horlick took the early lead, as a basket by DevontraThomas-Kumpala gave the Rebels a 16-9 lead at the12:05 mark of the f irst quarter. But Hamilton answeredwith two three-point baskets to tie the score at 17-17

with just over nine minutes left before halftime andtook the lead on a three point basket by Lucas Semb atthe 6:33 mark of the first half. Horlick stayed close toHamilton and entered halftime trailing 33-31.

Consecutive three point baskets by Hartung gaveHamilton a 48-36 lead with 11:33 remaining. ButHorlick stayed close, and a three point basket by JoeGarcia III cut the Chargers lead to 55-49 with 6:12remaining. By then, Hamilton took advantage of opportunities at the free throw line, converting fivefree throws over two minutes to open up a 63-43 leadwith 4:08 remaining. The Chargers then convertedseven more free throw opportunities to close out thegame.

Hamilton had a 3-0 overall record following thegame. After the game, Hamilton Coach Andy Cerronisaid it took time for his team to adjust to Horlick's

quickness."That was not a good start but we were able to over-

come it. That was a test of what we were made of early," Cerroni said.

He also noted that the second half was a changefrom the first half, where Horlick got several opportu-nities at the free throw line after being fouled byHamilton. In the second half, Cerroni said his team dida better job of playing without fouling while theChargers also forced fouls on the other side of the court

in second half."I was pretty proud of our kids of how they handled

pressure and made good decisions in pressure situa-tions and knocking down free throws at the end,"Cerroni said.

The Menomonee Falls Village Boardopted not to pursue changes in currentordinances which regulate the raising of chickens.

Currently, the raising of chickens islimited to agricultural areas.Approximately a year ago, Trustee ChrisSmolik brought forward a request todiscuss options for changing the ordi-nance allow for the raising of chickensin other areas of the community.

During a Village Board Committee of the Whole meeting Dec. 7, Trustee SteveRaymonds said the item was first sentto the Plan Commission, whichRaymonds said "didn't want to touch itwith a 10 foot pole" and sent it back tothe Village Board without a recommen-dation. The matter was then sent to

the General Government Committee tosee if it could be addressed through thepolice powers provision of village ordi-nances. The committee has reviewedordinances in other communitiesinvolving the regulation of chickens,and reviewed options of ordinanceswhere chickens would be allowed withthe consent of adjacent neighbors withno regulation of lot size. He said theidea is similar to an ordinance in thecity of Wauwatosa.

"We thought it was our duty to comeup with some form of regulation orordinance to discuss and vote on,"Raymonds said.

Smolik said "we need to keep this assimple as possible" and said people foror against the raising chickens in thevillage "is not going to be a very largeamount of people."

Smolik noted that in the city of Milwaukee, 85 permits have been issuedfor the raising of chickens since theirordinance was first proposed.

Raymonds added he heard fromseven residents on the matter.

Trustee David Glasgow asked thatsince there is no restriction on lot sizewhere chickens would be allowed, howwould small residential lots beaddressed? Smolik said his opinion was"until my neighbor starts paying mymortgage they don't have a right to betelling me what to do on my land."

Trustee Bonnie Lemmer said she hastalked with residents "who wereadamant they would storm this place if little quarter-acre parcels are allowedchickens." She said that while a neigh-bor next door may not object to chick-ens, other residents may object. She

also said that once consent is rfrom neighbors, that would benent.

"I'm in real estate, it's gaffect the ability to sell your hmight affect the ability to getmarket price for the house," said.

Village President Joe Helchickens are "farm animals (andpropriate in residential areas."

Village Manager Mark Fitzgeran ordinance calling for neighbsent is "an extremely flawed banance."

"Do not give us a code tneighbor against neighbor," Fitsaid.

The board voted by a 4-3 keep current ordinances in plmake no changes.
