This Week At St. John
Tuesday 5:00 pm Public Mass
May 31 9:00 am Public Mass
Mass On Tuesday: We now have Mass on Tues-day at 5:00 pm. We ask that everyone wear a face mask; only sit in designated seats and use hand sanitizer upon entering the church.
Mass On Sunday: Next Sunday, May 31, Pente-cost Sunday we will have our regular 9:00 am Mass. There is still NO OBLIGATION to attend Sunday Mass. We ask that everyone wear a face mask; only sit in designated seats and use hand sanitizer upon entering the church. WEAR RED!
Face Masks: No one likes to wear a face mask and no one likes to get sick but according to many health experts wear a face mask pre-serves lives. As a citizen, as a Christian and as the pastor of St. John and St. Joseph I would urge everyone to wear a face mask when out in public and even when attending Mass. Every-where we look in hospitals, nursing homes, res-taurants and now even the White House, people are required to wear a face mask. Wearing a face mask today is the loving thing to do. - Fr. Tony

Created For Joy: A thought for the day: As the hand is meant for holding and the eye for see-ing, you have created me for joy, O God.
Prayer In Time of a Pandemic Mother of God and our Mother, pray for us to God,
the Father of mercies that this great suffering may
end and that hope and peace may dawn anew.
Amen. O God, protector of all who hope in you,
bless your people, keep them safe, defend them,
prepare them, that, free from sin and safe from the
enemy, they may persevere always in your love.
Through Christ our Lord.

Saint of the Day: The saints were real people with real stories– just like us! Their surrender to God’s love was so generous that the Church recognizes them as heroes and heroines worthy to be held up for our inspiration. You can see each saint of the day on our parish website or have it delivered right to your inbox. Go to SaintoftheDay.org to begin.
Sympathy: Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of June Higdon Pierce who passed away. She is the sister of Mary Embry.

Prayer for Memorial Day
God of power and mercy, you destroy war and
put down earthly pride. Banish violence from
our midst and wipe away our tears, that we may
all deserve to be called your sons and daughters.
Keep in your mercy those men and women who
have died in the cause of freedom and bring
them safely into your kingdom of justice and
peace. We ask this though Jesus Christ our
Lord. Amen
The Ascension of the Lord: The Feast of the Ascension commemorates the bodily Ascension of Jesus into heaven. Traditional is has been cel-ebrated as a Holy Day of Obligation on a Thurs-day and on the fortieth day of Easter. Now it is observed on the following Sunday, the seventh Sunday of Easter.
JUNE 6 PICNIC IS CANCELLED Maybe held August 29
Vacation Bible School: Our VBS scheduled for June 22-26 has been CANCELLED.
Sophia Award: If you would like to nominate anyone from our parish for this award please contact Fr. Tony
Ascension of the Lord: In prayer we discover
what we already have. You start where you are and
you deepen what you already have, and you realize
that you are already there. We already have every-
thing, but we don't know it and we don't experience
it. Everything has been given to us in Christ. All
we need is to experience what we already possess.

Word and Vision"
St. Damien: The feast of St. Damien de Veuster of Moloka’I is observed on May 10. This year because May 10 fell on a Sunday, it didn’t show on most calendars. St. Damien became so well know for his work among the lepers in Hawaii that Moloka”I almost became his surname. Dedicating his life to those suffering from Han-sen’s disease, Damien made the world aware of their plight. He succumbed to the disease and died in 1889.
Prayers In Time of a Pandemic Almighty and eternal God, our refuge in every
danger, to whom we turn in our distress; in faith
we pray look with compassion on the afflicted,
grant eternal rest to the dead, comfort to
mourners, healing to the sick, peace to the dy-
ing, strength to healthcare workers, wisdom to
our leaders and the courage to reach out to all in
love, so that together we may give glory to your
holy name. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
