great time. Needless to say the fellowship that continued at the seafood restaurant was equally great!!. This coming week beginning Mon 5th Feb will be a busy week for the Club. At our luncheon meeting we are having a terrific guest speaker in Mrs Simran Kaur who is to speak on “The Journey of a Thousand Miles begin with a step” Mrs Simran is the Mrs Malaysia Asia Pacific Cosmopolitan 2018. At the meeting she will be joined by Mrs Malaysia Worldwide, Mrs Rowena Naidu and Miss Malaysia Earth 2016, Ms Joanna Joseph. The three beauty queens have graciously of-fered their assistance to the Organ Donation Awareness Project which will be held at Quill City Mall on Sun 4 March 2018. OC for this project is Rtn Albert Chia and they together with DG Manohur will discuss this meaningful project after the regular meeting. Then on Wed 7th Feb, we will have the offi-cial handover of our project at SMK Dato Onn, KL “Upgrading of 3 Science Labora-tories”. We will have a simple ceremony as requested by the school. Last week we had a National Holiday in Thai-pusam and a Wilayah Holiday for KL. Thus it was a relaxing week. This will give a good rest for all of us who had a hectic Jan 2018.

T he District Governor’s official vis-it to the Club on 14th and 15th Jan 2018 was a successful despite miss-ing eight Pudu Rotarians who were

on an overseas trip to New Zealand. He had good words for us and had meetings with the Rotaractors and Interactors as well. We gave a comprehensive report on our Club’s affairs and the BOD was a credit to the Club. The Fellowship we had with him was just great after our 2nd Club Assembly at Rtn Tenny’s residence. Thank you DG for your kind words and your visit. Congratulations to Rotaractor Timothy Danker for being elected to be the District Rotaract Representative (DRR) for RY2018/19. This position is akin the “DG of Rotaract!!” Also congratulations to the Ro-taract Club of Pudu for being selected to be the organizers of the District Rotaract Assem-bly for RY2018/19. Best Wishes to your all.!! We are proud of you!!! To recap further, the PRCCF’s Secondary School Scholarship and Undergraduate Grant Presentation was a success. We gave out RM44,000 to 144 secondary students and an undergraduate grant of RM4,000. We must thank our Honorary Member HE Con-stantin Nistor for being our guest of honour and for giving us an inspirational speech. Al-so thanks to Principal Ravi of MBS for being a great help on that day! The Bi-Annual visit to the Jenjarom Old Folks Home on 28th Feb (last week) was a great success with about 40 Pudu Rotarians, Anns, Rotaractors and Guests making the trip. At 10 am most visitors were already there chit-chatting with the immates and everyone had a late breakfast organized by the Rotaractors and sponsored by President Jeffrey, Rtn Ken-neth and a well wisher. Organizing Chair-person Rtn Tenny was at her element. Not only she gave a speech in Mandarin, duly un-derstood by most of the immates, she also led in the singing of the Chinese New Year song. In response, President Jeffrey and Mr Chia (in charge of the Home) also gave their re-spective speeches in Mandarin. The atmos-phere was one of gaiety and everyone had a

I am pleased to note that the DG’s speech at pages 6-6-7 emphasised TRF and Membership with a mention about public image. For those who are not aware, these are emphasised more

so by RI in their propagation of the CLP—Club Leadership Plan—structure for Rotary clubs. Like-wise, the District website also has these as drop-down menu items. We have not followed the RI recommended struc-ture. I hope we’ll start that with next year’s Board; failing which we’ll find it difficult to be a model club that the DG alluded to in his speech.

At about 1:40 pm The president then gave his re-port and subsequently asked PP Kumar Tharmalin-gam to introduce the Speaker—our DG Dr Mano-hur.

Dr Manohur then spoke to us and expressed his pleasure at being able to visit the Club and spend two days/nights with us. He was pleased to be able to meet the presidents and secretaries of our eight Interact clubs on the afternoon of Sunday 14 Jan 2018. And at night to have fellowship with us at Rtn Tenny Lee’s hilltop residence. There was of course, the Club Assembly where the directors gave their reports which were duly documented.

And at today’s regular Club meeting the DG said, among other things, RC Pudu being in the premier club list, need to continue to be a club to be looked up to and to be ever willing to help smaller and fledgling clubs in their journey with Rotary. His speech is at pages 6-7.

PP Dato Muslim then thanked the DG and present-ed him with our Certificate of Appreciation.

The meeting ended at 2:15 pm.

T he meeting was called to rder by the SAA Rtn Tenny Lee at 1:15 pm. Th e names of visiting Rotarians and guests were an-nounced. She then requested all to stand

and sing the National Anthem followed by the Loyal toast to the Yang Dipertuan Agong.

PP Gary Lim was then invited to be the Finemaster. There were several members and spouses celebrat-ing their birthdays in January and PP Gary never missed to give them hefty fines; but compensated with a birthday cake—later auctioned—after the customary birthday song by all the birthday/anniversary celebrants. For all that, PP Gary Laim netted RM 117.00 for the kitty.

This was followed by an Induction ceremony for our new member Rtn Lakhbeer Singh. President Jeffrey Yap read to him what’s expected of as a Rotarian and member of the Rotary Club of Pudu. Then he took the Rotary pledge. DG Dr Manohur then pinned the Rotary pin on his lapels and handed over to him the various Rotary paraphernalia for him to keep, display and abide by. The members and audi-ence then gave him a rousing welcome toast.

DG’s ADDRESS

G ood evening President Jef-frey Yap, Assistant Governor Parames, Past Presidents and my fellow Rotarians. I am

glad to be back to this club because the warmth that I receive visiting you guys. Your club is in the premier club list in our District. You don’t need any guid-ance from the District but rather you are a showcase club to other weaker and smaller clubs in the district. I am delighted and honored to be given the opportunity to be your District Gov-ernor for the Rotary year 2017-2018. Congratulations and Best Wishes to President Jeffrey Yap and his board members as they take on the leadership of this Club. Earlier in the day, I met up with your Club President, Secretary and Treasurer. I noted the plans that President Jeffrey Yap and his board members have drawn

up for the year. President Jeffrey Yap is surely taking your club a flight higher with his immense commitment and pas-sion. He is always planning on how to carry out the next project successfully and with much impact on public image. This is a time in the Rotary year, for looking forward. We have made our plans, now it is time to begin to achieve them. Communities and Globally. Our Rotary Theme for the year 2017-2018 is Rotary: Making A Differ-ence. As Rotary International President Ian HS Riseley said that there are many reasons to come to Rotary but each of

us has stayed in Rotary because it adds something to our own lives. Through Rotary, we are Making a Difference in the world; and the more involved we be-come, the more of a difference Rotary makes to each of us. Rotary challenges us to become better people: to become ambitious in the ways that matter, to strive for higher goals, and to incorpo-rate Service Above Self into our daily lives. MEMBERSHIP Our District is plagued by MEMBER-SHIP DEFICIENCY. We started with 1,701 Rotarians on 1st July 2016 and went up as high as 1850. At the end of June 2017, numbers came down to 1705 despite having chartered 5 new clubs with average numbers of 24 Rotarians per club. We have done well with recruitment of new members but unable to retain them. We need to do something different in order to get different result. One of our plans is to aggressively tap the Bumipu-tra community as they form the largest population in Malaysia. Secondly, tap the women population. I hope the existing lady members will bring in their friends and relatives into Rotary. We must correct the gender im-balance in our district which is 1:4. We must continue to grow, increase membership, diversity and engagement in order to be effective. Having mem-bers with different perspectives and backgrounds fuels innovation and gives your club a broader understanding of your community’s needs. To strengthen

your club and its ability to make a posi-tive difference, involve members use their unique skills and interests, give them a voice in the club’s future. TRF The reason why you join Rotary is be-cause of the fellowship and friendship and equally important is that you want to give back to the society. You want to do good in your community and that you care about the less fortunate and needy. You have chosen to be in Rotary so that we could collectively make a dif-ference in someone’s life. The vehicle that Rotary uses to do good in the world is through TRF—The Rotary Founda-tion. The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into service projects that change lives both at home and around the world. During the past 100 years, the Foundation has spent US$ 3 billion on life changing, sustainable projects. With your help, we can make lives better in your community and around the world. You may ask Why should I donate to the Rotary Foundation? Your donation makes a difference to those who need our help most. More than 90 percent of the donations go di-rectly to supporting our service projects around the world. How does The Rotary Foundation use donations? The 35,000 clubs carry out sustainable service projects that support our six causes. With donations like yours, we have wiped out 99.9 percent of all polio

cases. Your donation also trains future peacemakers, supports clean water, and strengthens local economies. What impact can one donation have? It can save a life. A child can be protect-ed from polio with as little as 60 cents. Our partners make your donation go even further. For every $1 Rotary com-mits to polio eradication, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has commit-ted US$ 2. YAYASAN Support our own Foundation. Your club has benefitted by way of support grants. Encourage your Rotarians to donate to Yayasan. Get them to be a Jamil Rais fellow for RM2,500 or a Patron for RM5,000. A tax exempt receipt will be issued for your donations. PP Dato Muslim did the honours by thanking DG Manohur in our usual Ro-tary manner and presenting him with our Certificate of Appreciation.

ROTARY PILOTS NEW APPROACH TO PEACE AND SPOTLIGHTS SIX PEACEMAKERS EVANSTON, ILL. (SEPTEMBER 21, 2017)

Rotary has entered a new partnership with the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) to enhance its peace and conflict resolution efforts with data-driven methodologies and tools; as it honors six ‘Champions of Peace.’

The partnership with IEP – a global think tank that pioneered a conceptual framework for ‘Positive Peace’ – enables both organizations to work together to create an online learning platform with webinars and interactive tools to teach Rotary members and Ro-tary Peace Fellows to apply new peace-building methods to their communities while addressing underlying causes of conflicts. In addition, the partnership allows for the development of local workshops hosted by Rotary clubs to educate communities about positive peace.

“Peace is much more than the mere absence of violence,” said Rotary President Ian H.S. Riseley. “The IEP has helped shift the world’s conversation about peace to a posi-tive, achievable and tangible measure of human wellbeing and progress. Our partner-ship will foster community-based projects in peace and conflict resolution that are both practical and impactful.”

“We are excited to be partnering with Rotary on this important initiative to reach mil-lions of people, helping them to become peacemakers,” said founder and Executive Chairman of IEP Steve Killelea. “As recent events clearly indicate, peace is a pre-requisite for humanity to thrive. The Rotary programs, built on Positive Peace, will be an invaluable contribution to global peace.”

Rotary members and peace fellows take action to address underlying causes of con-flict by providing access to clean water and sanitation, supporting educa-tion, preventing and treating disease, saving mothers and children and growing local economies. To celebrate their impact and in recognition of International Day of Peace, Rotary is highlighting the following six Champions of Peace:

Jean Best, a member of the Rotary Club of Kirkcudbright, Scotland Ann Frisch, a member of the Rotary Club of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, USA Safina Rahman, a member of the Rotary Club of Dhaka Mahanagar, Bangladesh Alejandro Reyes Lozano, a member of the Rotary Club of Bogotá Capital, Colombia Kiran Singh Sirah, a graduate of the Rotary Peace Center at the University of North Caroli-

TRIVIA—FOR PARENTS OF NEWLY WEDS

Don't encourage your son and his wife to stay under same roof with you. Best to suggest them to move out, even to the extent of renting a house. It's their problem to find a separate home. The more the distance between you and your children's families, the better is the relationship with your in laws

Treat your son's wife as his wife, not as your own daughter, maybe just treat her as a friend. Your son would always be your Junior but, if you think that his wife is of the same rank and if you ever scolded her, she would remember it for life. In real life, only her own mother and not u will b viewed as a person qualified to scold or correct her.

Whatever habits or characters your son's wife has is not your problem at all, it is your son's problem. It isn't your problem as he is an adult already

Even when living together, make each others businesses clear, don't do their laundry, don't cook for them and don't baby sit their children. Unless, of course, there is a special request by your son's wife and you feel that you're capable and don't expect anything in return. Most im-portantly, you shouldn't worry about your son's family problems. Let them settle themselves

Pretend to be blind and deaf when your son and his wife are quarrelling. It's normal that the young couple do not like their parents to b involved in the dispute between husband and wife.

Your grandchildren totally belong to your son and his wife. However they want to raise their children, it is up to them. The credit or blame would be on them.

Your son's wife need not necessarily respect and serve you. It is the son's duty. You should have taught your son to be a better person so that you and your son's wife relationship could be better.

Do more planning for your own retirement, don't rely on your children to take care of your retirement. You had already walked through most of your journey in life, there are still a lot of new things to learn through out the journey

It is your own interest that you enjoy your retirement years. Better if you could utilise & en-joy everything that you had saved before you die. Don't let your wealth become worthless to you.

Grandchildren don't belong to your family, they are their parents precious gift
