That’s it for 2015... And I thought we just got ourselves into the year! 2016 is coming and here I am thinking what this new year will bring upon us? As I am typing this, a thought came by. Do we wait for the year to reveal what’s in -store for us, in the name of fate, or do we have the choice to writing them ourselves? I am always a believer of me writing my own destiny because no one else knows better than me. Well this does not mean that I don’t believe in the Almighty, but at least those situation which I can control, I’ll take charge. Things like, how happy do I want to be, how much money I want to donate, how much time I want to spend with my loved ones and how much learning I want to acquire?

Of course, the list goes on, but instead of having too many in my blank page, I want to just stick to these couple of questions and I know that once I start writing, the page will be full in no time! Why, be-cause each question above has a tailed question that follows, which is - ‘How do I plan to achieve this?’. I have done this exercise many of times and all that I get is, list of surprises which I myself did not know that I had it in me. I say this because as much as I thought that I am incapable, these questions brings me towards the right path and a greater me. One important thing though, is to take one step at a time, which means, you don’t have to squeeze your brains to get the final list, but instead, you can take your time in re -visiting the list anytime you want so you can reframe the steps and make it into do-able action items. I want to share this exercise to you simply because I find it useful to me, and I think it will be the same for you.

So, do try it out and even if it does not work for you, the effort alone will satisfy you in this journey to-wards a brand new year… My dear friends, Here I am wishing all of you a healthy health and a wealthy wealth!

We are at that time of year again. This time it’s a twin celebration of Maulidur Rasul on 24 December and Christmas on 25 December. Many people will be on leave to balik kampung or go away overseas for a year end vacation. But not for some of us. It so happened that we are having an AGM on the evening of the 29th December. I wonder how many members will turn up. From the whatsapp group message that I sent out only two said they were not

coming. That means I could expect 43 members coming. Fat hopes! Another whatsapp callout by Gary Lim indicated 13 people coming. That’s more like it. But why do all this cliffhanging thingy, by the way? Well, the reason is, we have to. If we defer it to next week in January, we’ll get fined by ROS because our six months to do our AGM ends on 31 Decem-ber of the year. Why not do it earlier? I tried to. But then the accounts for year ending 30 Jun 2015 were not ready. Actually, it could have been ready much, much earlier because I gave them more than enough notice about 7 Dec as the date for the AGM. But then, we are a voluntary organization and work-ing without pay. So why worry. Let the 76 year old general go nuts – with the Hon Secretary choosing to resign at this time to boot; just to make it a bit more fun. What happens if we don’t get a quorum for the AGM? Well, we’ll have to postpone it. At least we now have an excuse to tell ROS why we are late. If they don’t buy that, then – pay the fine. My message last week already touched somewhat on the problems of “managing success.” We are expe-

riencing that right now. For so long we are used to just existing – and yet can still win awards – has put us into a mindset that we are okay. Until DG Siti Subaidah came along and told the District that she wanted the clubs to be “world class.” And AG Teoh told us that we are a mediocre Club, just 3 -star. That was a surprise and some people just couldn’t accept it. But I did accept it; and set about doing some-thing about it – to uplift us to our proper status. And we did it. It took only six months when AG Teoh announced on 10th December that we are upgraded to 5-star. Again some people appear skeptical about it, judging by the lack of enthusiasm displayed thus far; and the complacency obtaining.

Dear Fellow Rotarians, Another feather for District 3300, the publicity on our Interact Conference in the media – The efforts of Organising Chairman, Capt Gunasekaran and host club Rotary Club of Klang gave our Interactors the opportunity to experience life in the Navy. Congratulations too, to President Adrian Minjoot and the club’s Youth Service Chair, Rtn Anthony Das for an excellent and successful 2015 Interact Conference. While we do experience challenges with our Interact Clubs not being recognised in some schools, these continued ef-forts to showcase the youth activities Rotary is involved, hope to change the mindset and perception of schools and some government agencies to support and facilitate our Youth Services programs. We need to take cognizant of these challenges and must remain committed to promote positive development in our youth through Interact and Rotaract. This responsibility lies on Rotarians. It is only through smart-partnerships with both government and corporate bodies can we further enhance Rotary’s presence in Malaysia and to add value to the good work many of our Rotary clubs are doing. Thank you to all the clubs who sponsored their Interactors to the District Interact Conference. The presences of over 450 Interactors at TLDM over the 4 days and the talents some of the Interactors displayed was to the amazement of the Vice Admiral himself. We are certainly proud of our Interactors, they are a Gift to us. Thank you Regards Siti

Dear Fellow Rotarians, Below is the Seoul Registration Report as of to date. I set the goal at 50 when I was in San Diego in January 2015 but with our District Promotion Chair and Co-ordinator, IPP Dr Bernard, we set a target of 200. Today, with 6 months to go, we have 140 registered, not too far from our target. I understand there are many Rotarians who are still consider-ing, register early and book the hotel rooms and flight, or through our several travel agents (Rotarians) to avoid disap-pointment. Our Malaysian batik will stand out as we showcase our District at the opening of the Convention. Please contact IPP Dr Bernard for any assistance. “See you in Seoul”

GET INSPIRED !

Many years ago three soldiers, hungry and weary of battle, came upon a small village. The villagers, suffering a mea-ger harvest and the many years of war, quickly hid what little they had to eat and met the three at the village square, wringing their hands and bemoaning the lack of anything to eat. The soldiers spoke quietly among themselves and the first soldier then turned to the village elders. "Your tired fields have left you nothing to share, so we will share what little we have: the secret of how to make soup from stones." Naturally the villagers were intrigued and soon a fire was put to the town's greatest kettle as the soldiers dropped in three smooth stones. "Now this will be a fine soup", said the second soldier; "but a pinch of salt and some parsley would make it wonderful!" Up jumped a villager, crying "What luck! I've just remembered where some's been left!" And off she ran, returning with an apronful of parsley and a turnip. As the kettle boiled on, the memory of the village improved: soon barley, carrots, beef and cream had found their way into the great pot, and a cask of wine was rolled into the square as all sat down to feast. They ate and danced and sang well into the night, refreshed by the feast and their new-found friends. In the morning the three soldiers awoke to find the entire village standing before them. At their feet lay a satchel of the village's best breads and cheese. "You have given us the greatest of gifts: the secret of how to make soup from stones", said an elder, "and we shall never forget." The third soldier turned to the crowd, and said: "There is no secret, but this is cer-tain: it is only by sharing that we may make a feast". And off the soldiers wandered, down the road. "The miracle is this - the more we share, the more we have." - Leonard Nimoy
