A Shot in the Dark, a witty comic mystery by Marcel Achard, is coming to the Rome Little Theatre stage this February! The maid, Josefa Latenay (played by Savannah Ruth), is hauled before the magistrate, Paul Sevinge (played by Ben Peck), on a charge of murder, having been found unconscious, nude, and clutching a gun, with her lover dead beside her. The investigation expands to include her aristocratic employer, Benjamin Beaurevers (played by Ed Baker), and his wife, Dominique Beaurevers (played by Virginia McChesney). Sevinge, new in town with his wife, Antoinette (played by Desiree Cox), is instructed how investigations are carried out in Paris by his clerk, Morestan (played by Daniel Murchland), his boss, Leblache (played by Bruce Watson), and aided by his Guard (played by Don Schlitz). Will Sevigne be able to crack the case and determine the true killer? “This is not the 1964 film A Shot in the Dark starring Peter Sellers, the second installment in the Pink Panther series,” explains Director Bob Moulard. “This is a classic comedy that originally starred such great stars as William Shatner and Walter Matthau,” details Bob. With such a grand, but small show casting is crucial! “I have eight of the most talented people I have ever worked with in this show. Every one of them brings something wonderful and unique to their characters,” Bob details. This is the second show Bob has directed in his theatrical career. His first was last season’s Twelve Angry Men, which won the Roman award for best non- musical. He has been involved with RLT for close to five years. “I first auditioned for the role of Bob Ewell in To Kill a Mockingbird, got it, and now just try to get rid of me. My favorite role that I have gotten to play was my turn as R.H. Macy in Here’s Love,” Bob explains. The set, costumes, and make-up will help to enhance the performances of the actors onstage. “We are going for a minimalist set, just a desk, a chair, and a table to suggest Sevinge’s office. We are not even going to have walls! All the costumes, however will be full period, early 1960s. Make- up will also be particularly simple, just basic stage make- up.” clarifies Bob. Overall, A Shot in the Dark promises to be funny and entertaining show filled with fantastic, comic performances, and side- splitting dialogue. When I asked Bob why he wanted to direct this show he quipped, “Oh I will do anything to get out of the house! This show is just a fun comedy, a great evening of entertainment, plus it’s a good thing to laugh.« Contents Cast of Shot in the Dark ..... 2 2011-2012 Season Directors and Producers .… 2 Beyond the RLT .................. 3 Annie Photo Gallery ............ 4 HDTF Update........................ 5 RLT Members ..……………..... 6 Joseph Auditions …………... 8 Show Dates February 4 - 13, 2011 Shows are Friday and Saturday nights at 8pm and Sundays at 2:30pm

2011-2012 Season

The Rome Little Theatre Board of Directors selected the directorsand producers for next season at their January board meeting.

The decisions were very difficult due to a large group of goodapplicants. Congratulations to the following:

with Wendell Barnes

After you have laughed with the wonderful cast of "A Shot in theDark," you are sure to be seeking even more theatre events toentertain you. Opening the same weekend as "ASITD," across the

street at Rome City Auditorium, is the 2011 version of the JuniorService League Follies, this time entitled "A Forties FolliesAnniversary," or "Tanks for the Memories," featuring lots of wonderfulmusic and dancing from my favorite decade, and featuring yours truly, too! The show will have two performances only, Feb. 4th and 5th,Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and the proceeds will benefit anotherorganization close to my heart, The Open Door Children's Home, whereI just began working part-time last fall! Please come and support theFollies this year. I promise you will have a ball! Also locally this month, the time has finally arrived for the sumptuousproduction by the Darlington Players of "Disney's Beauty and theBeast." This favorite show will run also at the Rome City Auditorium onFriday, Feb. 18th and Saturday, Feb. 19th at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday,Feb. 20th at 2:30 p.m. You can order your tickets now online atwww.darlingtonschool.org and follow the prompts. Tickets are only $10-15 for this family favorite. Don't miss it! Both colleges have productions of classic plays this month. BerryCollege Theatre Company at the E.H. Young Theatre will present"That's Absurd! Absurdist dramas by Eugene Ionesco: 'The BaldSoprano' and 'The Lesson'." The unique opportunity for seeing theseplays will be Feb. 17th - 23rd. Call BCTC at 706-236-2263 forreservations. Shorter University will be presenting the classic Greekdrama, Euripides' "The Trojan Women" on the same dates, Feb. 17th -23rd. Remember that the Callaway Theatre is very small and usuallysells out, so phone them now at 706-233-7288 for reservations and topurchase tickets.

The Calhoun Little Theatre has scrapped their plan to producethe musical "Radio Gals," this spring because the organization isin transition right now and they just could not take on anothermusical, but they are hopeful to mount that production thissummer. But they are soldiering on and have replaced it with NeilSimon's hilarious comedy, "Rumors." They are casting as I typethis. I will let you know the progress of this and the productiondates as soon as they are announced and will post that in the nextnewsletter. You can check their progress at www.cgarts.org, and

click on "Programs" and then "Little Theatre." As always, there is a lot going on at the Pumphouse Players inCartersville, performing at the Legion Theatre downtown on MainStreet. Next up is Theresa Rebeck's hilarious one-woman show, "BadDates," running Feb. 18th - March 5th. They are always auditioning forthe next show and always have rehearsals going on, so check them outat www.pumphouseplayers.com. You might be interested in anupcoming concert at the Cedartown Civic Auditorium on March 11th forone night only, "In the Mood." This is billed as a "big band theatricalswing revue," and will have lots of big band songs, instrumental playingand dancing, if you didn't get enough of that at the Junior ServiceLeague Follies in February! Get more information atwww.ccauditorium.com. Things have really been jumping at the Fabulous Fox Theatre onPeachtree this month and will continue in the next several weeks. If youread this in time, you might be able to catch the national tour of "WestSide Story," the new production that just closed on Broadway a fewweeks ago. This is the production that has the Hispanic characterssinging some of the original songs in Spanish! This show opens onJanuary 25th and runs through the 30th, so hope you get this in time!Next up at the Fox is the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre Feb. 10th- 13th in their annual visit to Atlanta with new and familiar moderndance pieces. "Stomp!" will return to Atlanta at the Fox March 2nd - 6th,and I usually see this entertaining show every time it comes! March22nd - 27th will showcase another dance show, this time ballroomdancing, called "Burn the Floor," which ran on Broadway and usuallyfeatures some of the professionals from television's "Dancing with theStars." And get ready for "Shrek the Musical," which will play at the Foxthe end of April and will be covered in the next newsletter.

Our next project is very exciting and will be very visibleto the community: the long-awaited painting of the DeSo-to’s façade and ticket booth area should start soon!

Although much has been done, many more restorationprojects are needed. Please return the below form andjoin our Friends of the DeSoto, with your donation so wemay continue our work. Thank you! «

Downstairs in the smaller black box Hertz Theatre, anew production called "Carapace" will open Feb. 11th and run throughMarch 6th. This is the story of a flawed man on a collision course with fateon a bitter Minneapolis night, and is an award-winning world premiere.Next up by the Alliance Centerstage for families is the hilarious musical,"Honk!" based on the story of "The Ugly Duckling." I saw this show atShorter a few years ago and everyone in the family will have so much funat this show.
