MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR On July 12th, 2003 I walked into the NeilSimon Theatre in New York City, took myseat in the 4th row center (paid my hotelconcierge and his friend handsomely forthis ticket) to see the show that just amonth earlier won the 2003Tony Award for best musical.I was excited to see and hearthe show that had everyonetalking! It didn’t disappoint. I knew the main story linewas about a young girl andher mother who weren’t yourtypical American beauties onthe outside, but came to real-ize that they were beautiful onthe inside and that was whatreally mattered. The underly-ing story was what blew meaway, the story of integration, and how thetwo stories were intertwined. A story I wasfamiliar with having grown up on the west-ern side of Birmingham, Alabama in theearly 1960’s. Tracy the lead character in our showsaid, “I just think it’s stupid we can’t alldance together”. Motormouth Maybellereplies, “Children, you were not the first totry and you won’t be the last, but I am hereto tell you that I’m gonna keep lining upuntil someday somebody breaks through. And I’ve been looking at that door a lotlonger than you.” Tracy – “What door?”Motormouth – “The front door.” When you hear our Motormouth May-belle (Beth McCain and Company) sing, “IKnow Where I’ve Been”, I hope you will beblown away and inspired too! I have beentruly blessed to work with this talentedcast and crew!Enjoy!!!

Director’s Thank-You! I would like to give a heartfelt thank youto everyone who has helped in any way topromote the musical Hairspray. Manyhands have touched this production and

without them it would be hard toput on a show of this size anddesign. A special thank you toChuck (lighting design) and Me-gan (graphic design and pro-gram) who work on every showto ensure that it is a success. Thanks, Tina, for being the per-son who gets the community tohelp us with their gifts. Thanksto Pam, Brandi, Diane, Josh,Kendall, Becky and Madison formaking everyone in the castbeautiful (hair and makeup

team). Thanks Michael and Amy for mak-ing us sound good (lighting design andsound crew) and Chris, Kim, Chase andMarcus for lighting us up (light crew). Thanks Naomi for snapping our beauty(headshots). Many thanks to those in thetrenches: Carol, Suzanne, Evan, Bren-don, Amanda and Emily (stage managerand Crew). Thank you to Becky and Christine (cos-tumes). Thank you to Tiff and Becky for allthe late nights working on the set (setdesign and construction). Thank you Em-ily for all the cool dance moves (choreog-raphy). Thanks James and Angela for thecountless hours of vocal work, and last butnot least, a big thank you to Becky (pro-ducer), for wearing many hats in this pro-duction.

Please do not drop this program in the garbageon your way out.

We reuse and recycle. If you do not wish to keep it, pleaseleave it on the table by the entrance door. Thank you!

Please drop your trash in the proper receptacles. Thank you!
