She went to investigate and patrolled both her fence lines, but could find nothing out of place. Thinking it might be a goat or buck, she went back to her house. “As I opened the back door leading into the kitchen, I saw a man standing in the garage door on the opposite side of the kitchen,” says Rousseau. “I shouted at him: What are you doing in my house?” The suspect ran to the study and grabbed Rousseau’s laptop that was on her desk. Rousseau followed him to the study, and as he was holding her laptop he asked her to give her the money. “That was when I lost it. I saw red and, using expletive language, told him to get lost while moving in his direction. I was so an- gry. Thank goodness I did not have anything in my hand, as I would have hit him with it.” Clearly intimidated by this small, but feis- ty, lady, he decided to cut his losses and make a run for it. “He pushed me out of the doorway and ran through the garage and into the kitchen with my dog and I in hot pursuit,” says Rousseau. “He threw a chair at me, but luckily I man- aged to dodge it. “He continued running to the bottom of the garden, and, to my horror, put my laptop un- der his arm and escaped through a hole in the fence which he must have made earlier.” Rousseau immediately posted information with regard to the incident and a description of the suspect on the Farmers Forum and Thornhill Social Forum Whatsapp groups. “Within ten minutes the police and a mem- ber of the K9-unit were at my house,” says Rousseau. “The whole community rallied to- gether to help find the suspect.” According to Rousseau, the suspect was seen walking on the N2, but he disappeared into the nearby informal settlement when he realised he was being followed. He was apprehended not long afterwards when he attempted to sell the stolen laptop for R500. “I had my laptop back in my hands in less than three hours, I could not believe it,” says Rousseau. “It is absolutely amazing and I want to thank everyone who assisted - especially Ser- geant Orné Landman, Constables Francois Nel, Jasmine Dolf and Harlem Louw, Reserv- ist Constable Wayne van der Riet and Ser- geant Logan Diedericks from the K9-unit.” According to police spokesperson Lieute- nant Gerda Swart, the suspect appeared in the Hankey Magistrates Court on Tuesday on a charge of theft.

3 by dié skool is.

WHAT does Dirk Ellis Volkswagen and a ProfessionalGolfers Association (PGA) player have in common?

The perfect caddie, of course.Inspired by the beautiful golf courses in and around

Kouga, aswell as themany avid golfers, Dirk Ellis Volks-wagen recently filmed their new Volkswagen commer-cial at the picturesque St Francis Links Golf Estate. Thecast boasts St Francis Links CEO and PGA professional,Jeff Clause, and local physiotherapist Fouché Swart. It’s every golf player’s ambition to play a great round

of golf. A great game ensures a boosted ego. However,a typical day on the golf course doesn’t always go accord-ing to plan, and when all is not on par between a golferand his caddie, disaster strikes.“When it comes to comedy timing, Jeff and Fouché are

birds of a feather. What was supposed to be Eagles andBirdies, soon became bunkers and bushes. They are bril-liant, we couldn’t stop laughing,” says Dirk Ellis Volks-wagen Marketing Manager, Werner van Wyk.“We sponsor various golf days and found that a mere

vehicle display is just not as an effective marketing toolas we would like it to be. Golfers tend to focus on theirgame and do not have time in-between to view ourVolks-wagen vehicles. Therefore, we came up with an interac-tive way of promoting our product on a particular golfday to ensure players see it. Hence the idea behind thecommercial.”The commercial was filmed over a period of two days

by Jeffreys Bay-based production company, Salt VideoProductions, andwill be flighted onDirkEllis Volkswag-en’s YouTube channel as well as their social media plat-forms. Van Wyk promises that the commercial will bevery entertaining, especially to golf players.According to Clause, he has been in front

of the camera before, but not to make a com-mercial“The team was professional and orga-

nised. The number of different angles ulti-mately led to the great facial expressions. Itwashard to be angrywhenFouchékeptmak-ing me laugh,” says Clause. And what does this PGA professional

think of the commercial?“It turned out great. Dirk Ellis Junior

promisedme a fish for every 1 000 hits - I justbought a freezer!,” says Clause. “I hope it ap-pears on a bigger screen, as the word out

there says it is a hit.”The commercial can be viewed at:

IN the male-dominated world of fishing, theskills demonstrated by members of the oppo-site sex often go unnoticed.

However, despite her small posture, ThelmaJonker (51%) from Humansdorp has proventhat brute strength is not always necessary tostand toe-to-toe with her male counterparts inthe arena where their sport takes place: feetfirmly planted behind their fishing rod.Representing South Africa, she received

top-colours at the third international Rock andSurf Super Pro League (RASSPL) held in Hen-ties Bay from April 6 to 8 where she competedagainst Namibia’s top anglers. She further-more received a hamper from Shimano to thevalue of R1 500 for catching the fourth heaviestspecie in the competition - a galjoen of 41cm.Jonker is the first female angler in the Kou-

ga region and Eastern Province to representher country at the international RASSPL.The competition is strictly catch-and-re-

lease, and once fish that are caught are meas-ured, they are safely released. All the statis-tics of the fish caught and released are doneby dr Warren Potts from Rhodes Universitywho heads the Research and ConservationDepartment of RASSPL.Jonker started fishing at the age of 30 when

her husband, Allan, took her river fishingfrom a boat. It was then that the ‘gogga’ bither to become a keen angler.

JANNIE HOUGH

SO gesels Jekyll-en-Hyde onlangs wéér oordieselfde seermaakgoed.

Dié twee: saam gebore, geskool, ge-varsity.Tans sulke vriend-vyand kennisse, twee ui-terstes.“Onthou jy nog vir Miemie?” vra Jekyll ge-

maak-onskuldig. ’n Dofheid skuif voor Hydese oë in: “Miemie – Miemie?” Sy sluheid laataltyd sy gedagtes hakkel. Nee, gits, hy onthounie ’nM-Miemienie. Die musiekwat speel, het ’n manier om ou geliefdes opte rakel en hartelose lirieke te laat lewe: Toall the girls I loved before, who travelled in andout my door: I’m glad you came along ..... Ishyself regtig bly, wonder Jekyll. Sommige leg-kaartstukkies is dof, maar ander klou verbete.

Louise was ’n eerstejaartjie, Jekyll ’n grin-terige oumeneer.

Hyde nou selfregverdig, “was nie ’n slegvangs nie. EnUrsula...wow!Maar jy...” Jekyllblits terug: “Nie ék nie...jý Het AltydAlles Be-soedel!” Hyde grinnik: “Sure, blame it on me.Jy ismos die squeaky clean ...

betekenisloos: “To every girlwho filledmy life, whonow is someone else’swife .... I dedicate thissong.” Jekyll staan op: “Hoe gemeen!” sê hy.

“Someone else’s wife!” Hy begin wegstap vanHyde af: “Wat het my besiel!”
