Godfrey, van Nooitgedacht-plaas, KleinDrakenstein, is die enigsteA-gemiddelde leer-der van die skool. Hy moes vir 12 jaar van dieplaas alle uiterste weersomstandighede trot-seeromdaagliksdie 12kmnadie skool te loop.

Mercia, wat drie onderskeidings behaal,naamlik 85% in rekeningkunde, 85% in En-gels addisionele taal en 83% in ekonomie, wasDinsdag saammet die top-50-leerders van dieWes-Kaap by die Premier se woning, Leewen-hof, vereer.

Summer Jazz Series on Paarl MountainEspAfrika, the organiser of the acclaimedCapeTownInternationalJazzFestival (CT-IJF),hasannouncedanewseriesofoutdoorjazz events that will take full advantage ofthe balmy summer evenings in Paarl.

BePart is primarily aClinicalRe-searchCentrewhosevisionis toem-power the community by creatingawareness about health and well-being.One of theirmany success stories

is: Anele is 26 and married. In July2013 she looked 62 – emaciated andemotionally devastated after herhusband left her without any sup-port and physically weakened bythe endless coughing, day andnight. She enrolled for the TB diag-nostic study and after confirmationof both active TB andHIV, her roadto recovery with the help of the BePart team, Department of Healthand supporting NPOs began. TodayAnele has gained 12 kg in just threemonths and is an outspoken ambas-sador forBePart! She reunitedwithher husband and is thinking ofstarting a family.This is only one story of how the

team brings about change in peo-ple’s lives and hearts and bringsmeaning to thedaily livesof the staffworkingat Be Part. They live their passion throughtheir work.They have various prevention and inter-

vention programmes (HIV & TB included) inplace and therefore see themselves evolvinginto a sustainable Clinical Research Organi-

sationwithastrongcommunityconnections.Apart from their on-going Clinical Trials,

they are currently running three differentcommunityprogrammes(allpartiallyfundedby donor monies):1. WorkplaceandFarmHealthWellness In-

tervention;

2. Mbekweni After-Hour Clinic3. YouthWellness (HIVandPregnancyPre-

vention ) and a Development Programme.In response to community demand, they

run a youth clinic, which offers HIV and STItesting and counselling. There is also a youthgroup, which has 63 registered members, as

partofapeersupportnetwork.Theteenage project objectives are toprovide:• a safe space for teenagers to

gather information and learnhealthy choices• easily accessible and readily

available confidential HIV testingand care• contraceptive advice and treat-

ment, STI treatment, HIV preven-tion packages and support servic-es• leadership development.The centre runs computer train-

ingandschoolassignmentsupport(Monday, Wednesday and Thurs-day); a Chat Youth Clinic for STD(sexually transmitted diseases),contraceptives, HIV testing andlife issues (Monday – Thursday);and Lazola Youth GroupMeetings(Fridays) from 15:00 – 16:30.Bulelani says: “I did my assign-

ment on tourism at Be Part withthe support of the friendly teamand scored 90%! I couldnot believeit and am now motivated to workhard. It feels so good to excel!”Be Part operates an After Hours

Die wonder van ’n nuwe jaar isdat alhoewel ’n mens ouer word,jy elke jaar ervaar dat jy nog ’nkans gegun word om nuut te be-gin. Ek glo dit is hoekom ons sograag Nuwejaarsvoornemensmaak. Ons wil graag beter doenas in die ou jaar.

Soms droom ons van groot veran-deringe in die nuwe jaar, want diejaar wat voor ons uitstrek lyk na ’nbaie lang tyd. Daar is egter ’n baiebelangrikebeginselomteonthouendit is dat ons dinge anders sal moetaanpak en anders sal moet doen asverlede jaar, indien ons ’n beter uit-koms wil verkry. Wat jy tot nou toegedoen het, het jou jaar laat verloopsoos wat dit verlede jaar verloophet.Enasdit ’ngoeie jaarwas –won-derlik!

Christmas party at De PoortThe Rageltjie charity organisationwhichwas started in 1996 byAndriFotia, held their annual Christmasparty for more than 200 childrenlast year at the De Poort HistoricalVillage.

The children were treated to a dayfilled with fun on slippery slides, goodfood and Christmas presents for eachof them.

Fotia has been doing wonderfulworkinthecommunitybyupliftingthelives of young people.Shehasprovidedapermanenthome

for 13 children after their parents ei-ther died or could no longer look afterthem.Noneof these childrenwhere ever at

school,butFotiahasnowseento it thateach of them go to school every day.On weekends up to 100 children can

beseenplayingatherhomewheretheyalsoreceiveamealandclothes thataredonated.Twowendyhouseshavebeenerected

on her property to provide more shel-ter for these children.“Iamverythankful for themanyvol-

unteers and local businesses who con-tributed so generously to the Christ-mas party tohelp create anunforgetta-ble day for the children”, says Fotia.

A number of people from the community assisted last year with the annual Christmas fun day for the children of Rageltjie charitywhich was held at De Poort Historical Village.

MATRIC RESULTS: The matriculants of Klein Nederburg Secondary School were overwhelmed when they receivedtheir matric results on 7 January. The school have a pass rate of 91%. and special education schools in theProvinceduring February and again in September toadminister free HPV vaccination to girls inGrade 4 and who have already turned nineand older,” states Minister Theuns Botha,Western Cape Minister of Health, who is afather and grandfather.During thenext three years,WCGHwill an-
