This past week, the priests of the Diocese of Saint Cloud gathered for their annual conference with Bishop Kettler. I have to say, in the year I have been attending, this was one of the richest gatherings I have participated in with my brother priests. Perhaps it includes the fact that we have also been away from one another for these times of COVID, just as many have. We all recognize that online meetings are just not the same as when we are able to come together, pray together, and dialogue about how to walk forward in the many endeavors which are at our doorstep. These are certainly challenging times, yet the Spirit also inclines us to look ahead with hope. I thank everyone for your prayers.

Pope Francis is opening a world-wide synodal process with Mass on Sunday, October 10. His desire is to remind the entire people of the Church that we all play a role in calling forth the gifts of the Holy Spirit to illuminate the voice of God for our leadership. Drawing on ancient tradition, Pope Francis will call together the Synod of Bishops in 2023 for discernment on the chosen theme: “For a synodal Church: communion, participation and mission.” Our local Church (diocese) will open our participation the following weekend. Bishop Kettler is requesting all

parishes in the Diocese of Saint Cloud celebrate the Mass for a Synod, replacing the 29th Sunday in Ordinary

Time - October 16/17. The diocesan phase will go through April. Much more is to come regarding how each

of us will be invited to share in the reflection and gathering of the Spirit.

That in-cludes our time in prayer with God, our talent in partici-pating in parish ministries and our treasure supporting our local parish and other charities.

Seven Reasons to Pray the Rosary Daily

1. We NEED the Rosary to fight daily temptation. The devil is real and relentless. He wants nothing more than to see us fall back into sin and break our relation-ship with God. But, we have a powerful advocate, one that Satan fears above all others: Mary. She has domin-ion over Satan and he flees when she stands beside her faithful servants. Pray for Mary to be with you and she will protect you from Satan.

2. We NEED the Rosary to slow down and find calm. Find TRUE rest in a few quiet moments with Our Blessed Mother. She offers the blessing of true peace.

3. We NEED the Rosary to live a life connected to Jesus Christ It can be very difficult to feel connected to Jesus. Even in prayer, it takes time and focus to feel Jesus’ real and en-during presence. The Rosary provides that time and focus through the simple and repeated prayers of the Rosary.

4. We NEED the Rosary to remain connected to the loving care of Our Mother Mary. Mary loves us, her children, and has a burning desire to bring us into a closer relationship with her Son. Envision the Rosary as a chain reaching from your hand all the way to heaven. Mary holds the other end and the Rosary serves as a bridge, a lifeline, between you and her. Know that she is always there, on the other end, loving you with the entirety of her Immaculate Heart.

5. We NEED the Rosary to pray for others in a strong, dedicated way. How often have your promised to pray for someone but end up offering little more than a momentary mental prayer for the cause or forget completely or you want to pray for them, but you feel like you have little to offer due to a lacking prayer life? The Rosary is the answer to these problems. When you set aside time for a daily Ro-sary, you create for yourself a real opportunity to help those in need of prayers and a dedicated habit of offering those prayers.

6. We NEED the Rosary to bring about world peace. Mary directed the children at Fatima to pray the Rosary for World Peace. At the time, World War I was raging, so the need for peace was very real, but we still live in a world at war, and we should feel called to pray the Ro-sary for peace: peace between world powers, in our fami-lies, communities and schools, in our relationships, even within ourselves, the peace of God is something we must constantly ask for.

7. We NEED the Rosary to help us pray when we don’t know what to pray for, or how to ask for it. For times like that, the Rosary is an especially powerful gift. Clutch the beads and say those familiar prayers that, for many of us, hearken back to our childhood, when our faith was natural and free from doubt. Allow the Rosary to calm your mind, your fears, and slow your heart. Allow the Rosary to lead you back to Our Blessed Mother. She is waiting to take care of you as only a mother can.

The Rosary is a perfect prayer, and your Blessed Mother will be pleased to hear you say it. Trust in her goodness and the power of her Holy Rosary. https://catholicsprouts.com/7-reasons-why-you-need-to-make-praying-the-rosary-a-daily-habit/

The Pope’s Prayer Intention

Missionary Disciples We pray that every baptized person may be engaged in evangelization, available to the mission, by being witnesses of a life that has the flavor of the Gospel.

Spiritual Communion Prayer My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at the moment receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen

St. Teresa of Avila, also known as St. Teresa of Jesus, was born in Spain to a large, devout, and prominent Catholic family. Fascinated with the lives of the saints, she and her brother built hermitages for themselves in the family garden. At the age of 14 Teresa was plunged into sorrow upon the death of her mother; to find conso-lation she asked the Virgin Mary to be her new mother. When she began to exhibit worldly vanities, her father placed her in a convent to be educated with other ladies of her social class. Determined to avoid marriage, and motivated more by the need for security than love for God, at the age of twenty Teresa entered religious life as a Carmelite nun. For two decades she led what she de-scribes as a mediocre prayer life, hindered by too much socialization with visitors. However, an intense prayer experience in her forties helped her to renounce wordy attachments and enter deeper into a life of prayer. She advanced rapidly and taught others to do the same, being encouraged by a vision of the place reserved for her in hell if she was unfaithful to God’s graces. She had many profound mystical experiences for which she was often slandered and ridiculed. After the reform of her own life she worked hard to reform the laxity of many Carmelite convents, and was successful even while being greatly opposed in her efforts. She was a strong and important female figure of her era, and her great progress in the spiritual life led her to write the spiritual classics Interior Castle and The Way of Perfection. For these works St. Teresa of Avila was named the first female Doctor of the Church. www.morningoffering.com
