THOUGHTS ON THE GOSPEL

‘God's love secure and unchanging’ ‘The Gospel readings at this time of year can sound rather forbidding, because they are about the end of world, the last days. But if you listen carefully to what's being said by Jesus today, while he is telling us of dramatic times to come, he is also constantly telling us not to fear them.‘”Do not be terrified.” “Not a hair on your head will be destroyed.” Why should we not be terrified? Jesus is talking about the end of everything that we know. And before that are to come wars and earthquakes, and the prospect of being hauled up in front of kings and governors to explain ourselves. How can that not be terrifying? Because we have a sure hope that it won't be the end of the world. For those who love God, who are secure in the love that God has for us, our world will never end.‘ Even when we are foolish, and give up on love, even when we do that most horrible thing of hurting the very people who love us most, even then, God is loving us. LIFELINK 2013: Archbishop's Christmas Appeal for LifeLink is being held throughout the Archdiocese this weekend. If you did not collect the personal letter at Mass last weekend, please collect one as you leave or use one of the special collection envelopes which are on the pews today. We urge you to give generous support to help the work of our Archdiocesan social service agencies and held people in need. You can mail your gift to the Lifelink office or return your envelope & donation to the parish any time in the coming weeks.

MORNING TEA: There will be Morning Tea in the parish centre this Sunday 17th after the 9.30am Mass. All are welcome!

ROCK MASS: There will be youth Mass, with Rock Music Style, next Sunday at 5.30pm. All are welcome!

NOVEMBER MASSES: If you would like to have Mass said during November for your deceased loved one(s) please find the envelopes at the back of the church, fill in the details and then hand it in to the office, or give to Fr Ken or Fr Noel.

CHRISTMAS CHOIR: We begin practising for Christmas every Wednesday evening in the church at 7.30pm starting this Wednesday - 13th November. Come along and join in. It is a lovely way to celebrate the Lord’s birthday by singing. No experience needed—just turn up and start singing. We would love to have you join us.

BABY/CHILDREN CLOTHES, STATIONERY, MOBILE PHONES AND LAPTOPS NEEDED: Fr. Ken is collecting baby/children clothes, stationery, mobile phones and laptops in good condition to take on the Mission Trip to Kenya in January 2014. While we are so grateful for the input of so many Parishioners into this Year's Calendar, we welcome any individual or group ideas for the next Year's Calendar. What kind of spiritual and social events would you like to see in the Parish in 2014? You can talk about this in your Parish Group or among friends, and email your contribution to the Parish Office. INVITATION: Fr Noel will be celebrating his 25th

Anniversary of Ordination on Sunday 8th

December. There are two events you are invited to attend: 9.30 am Mass on Sunday 8th will be the main Parish Celebration. Please come to Mass and bring along some food to share afterwards. The 2nd event : The Burmese community is also organising a Dinner Dance for Fr Noel on the following weekend Sat 14th December at Cyril Jacksons Recreation Centre, Fisher Street, Bassendean. Tickets are on sale for $20 each and you can get them from Fr Noel or from the Parish Office. All Parishion-ers are invited. Please see the poster and invitation on the doors at the back of the church about costs & how to book for your attendance.

BIBLE STUDIES: Our next session will be on Tuesday 19th November at Holy Family church Kalamunda. Starting at 7pm it lasts for only 1 hour. These sessions have been enjoyed greatly and are of very good value. Turn up and see if you enjoy it- even it if is just once. We are looking at the 2nd book of Samuel. BUSY BEE AND PARISH GARDEN WEEDING: There will be a busy bee for weeding our Parish Garden, and for general clean up around the Parish in preparation for Christmas on Saturday 7th December from 9 am to 11am. Please bring your working tools. Morning tea will be provided in the Parish Centre.

PILGRIMAGES 2014: There are a number of Pilgrimages in 2014, and flyers are on the noticeboard in the foyer for your information. Of particular interest is a Pilgrimage to Schoenstatt Shrine in Germany in the Jubilee Year of the Schoenstatt Sisters, led by Fr. Ken Asaba as Spiritual Director, 26 May to 10 June 2014. The keynote speaker is Sr. Margaret Scharf, a Dominican Sister who was a keynote speaker at a National Conference at St. John of God Retreat centre recently. Many parishioners attended and came away asking “Where to from here”? READINGS FOR THIS SUNDAY First Reading Mal 3:19-20 The sun of righteousness will shine on you. The day is coming now, burning like a furnace; and all the arrogant and the evil-doers will be like stubble. The day that is coming is going to burn them up, says the Lord of hosts, leaving them neither root nor stalk. But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness will shine out with healing in its rays.

Responsorial Psalm Ps 97:5-9. R. see v.9 (R.) The Lord comes to rule the earth with justice. 1. Sing psalms to the Lord with the harp with the sound of music. With trumpets and the sound of the horn acclaim the King, the Lord. (R.) 2. Let the sea and all within it, thunder; the world, and all its peoples. Let the rivers clap their hands and the hills ring out their joy at the presence of the Lord. (R.) 3. For the Lord comes, he comes to rule the earth. Second Reading 2 Thessalonians 3:7-12 Do not give anyone food who refuses to work. You know how you are supposed to imitate us: now we were not idle when we were with you, nor did we ever have our meals at anyone’s table without paying for them; no, we worked night and day, slaving and straining, so as not to be a burden on any of you. This was not because we had no right to be, but in order to make ourselves an example for you to follow. We gave you a rule when we were with you: not to let anyone have any food if he refused to do any work. Now we hear that there are some of you who are living in idleness, doing no work themselves but interfering with everyone else’s. In the Lord Jesus Christ, we order and call on people of this kind to go on quietly working and earning the food that they eat.

And when you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be frightened, for this is something that must happen but the end is not soon.’
