The annual Catholic Campaign for Human

Development (CCHD) collection will be held at

all Masses next weekend November 22/23, the

weekend before Thanksgiving. The CCHD was

mandated by the U.S. bishops to address the root

causes of poverty in American through promotion

and support of community-controlled, self-help

organizations and education. Please give

generously. Thank you!

Many thanks to all who have contributed to St. Mary’s Thanksgiving potato drive. Over 231 pounds of potatoes were donated in the first week. That is nearly half of our original goal of 500 pounds, and a third of our challenge goal of 700 pounds of potatoes. Potatoes are a staple in almost every part of the world, prized for their nutritional value. We will begin to distribute the potatoes this week to local food pantries. So, as Shakespeare wrote, “Let the sky rain potatoes.” To which we might add, and let all rejoice as we share the abundance and bounty of the Lord with our neighbors who are hungry and in need. ~ Betsy Jay

The Parish office will be closed on Friday November 28th in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Happy Thanksgiving!

Plan on celebrating Thanksgiving Mass here at

St. Mary’s at 9:30am Thanksgiving Day!

There will be an open house and dedication of the new Food Pantry on Sunday, November 23rd from 12-2pm at the Presbyterian Church, first floor. The dedication is at 12:30pm.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK

ST. MARY’S COOPERSTOWN

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 16th

11AM MASS

The anointing of the sick is administered to bring spiritual and even physical strength during an illness, especially near the time of death. Like all the sacraments, holy anointing was instituted by Jesus Christ during his earthly ministry. The anointing of the sick conveys several graces and imparts gifts of strengthening in the Holy Spirit against anxiety, discouragement, and temptation, and conveys peace and fortitude (CCC 1520). These graces flow from the atoning death of Jesus Christ, for "this was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah, ‘He took our infirmities and bore our diseases’" (Matt. 8:17). (From Catholic Answers)

The sick, infirmed and those advanced in years encouraged to celebrate the sacrament.
