As you may be aware, it was not easy for many bishops and priests to decide whether to remain open in accordance with the regulations or to close our doors again. It has literally been on my mind all week, especially as I have also needed to think about the needs of the many community groups who also use our facilities. It has been one of the most difficult decisions I have needed to make because I know there are strong views from all angles. In those places that have closed, there has been both disappointment and support. Also in those places which have remained open subject to the double vaccination rules there has been both disappointment and support. After consultation and much prayer, I have sought to do my best for our community and the people with whom I have been called to serve and journey. Indeed our parish family is facing what we hope will be our last COVID challenge as some of our parishioners are unable to join us in person. Whether gathered in person, via Facebook livestream Masses or in private prayer, my prayer is that we are united. I am available for pastoral care anytime and only ever a phone call away. On the Monday after NSW reaches the 80% fully vaccinated milestone (hopefully this Monday 18 October), churches will not have to check vaccination status. Thank you for your support of our endeavours and let us continue to pray for those suffering from the virus, those who have died from the virus and their grieving families, and for an end to this pandemic soon. EUTHANASIA LEGISLATION This week a private members bill was introduced to legalise euthanasia in NSW. NSW is the only state yet to pass euthanasia legislation. Please pray for all those in positions of decision making that we will always support and uphold the dignity of each persons life. The Bishops invite us to contact our local MPs and sign online petitions. More info is at www.noeuthanasia.org.au SAFEGUARDING UPDATE Thank you to all of our staff and volunteers who have now completed their Level 1 Safeguarding Training. Your participation in this formation is an important part of our parish familys commitment to the safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults. The Diocesan Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults Policy is available on our website and also at the parish office. We have a range of policies and procedures in place as part of our commitment, and anyone is welcome to view or request of a copy of these at any time. Also available in our churches and parish office are two resource cards: Rights and Responsibilities & Listening to You. OCTOBER: MENTAL HEALTH MONTH & DYSLEXIA AWARENESS MONTH This is an important time where the Australian community comes together to raise awareness and promote better mental health for all. It is so important that we continue to be there for each other and to never be afraid of reaching out if we need help. We also give thanks for the many organisations who help individuals, as well as playing an important role in research, advocacy, policy and general community support. This helps in ensuring a world where all systems, structures, policies, and services are focussed on the good health of all. As Pope Francis has stated the problems connected with mental disturbance that now afflicts one-fifth of humanity and is a real social-health care emergency. It is also an important time in helping to raise awareness of dyslexia. It is conservatively estimated that dyslexia affects up to 1 in 5 people. The experience of dyslexia isn't always the same and affects people in a variety of ways. Let us continue to raise awareness and support those with dyslexia. SPECIAL BIRTHDAYS This week there a number of special birthdays in our parish family. To all those celebrating, please know you are in my prayers. Special blessings and birthday wishes to Jack Chapman (102), John Henry Snr (94) and Sr Cabrini (87). If anyone would like to share the news of a special occasion with our parish family, please let our parish office know. INTERNATIONAL SYNOD OF BISHOPS On Sunday, October 17, dioceses around the world will launch local preparations for the Synod of Bishops, which has the theme: For a Synod- al Church: Communion, Participation and Mission”. The Catholic Church in Australia invites us to make submissions via an online portal opens on October 17. Those submissions will help the Bishops develop a national report to support the global process leading to an international gathering in 2023. This Sunday, our prayers come from the Votive Mass of the Holy Spirit and our readings from Pentecost Sunday. THIS MONTH’S MASS AT WILLAWARRIN

Please note that this month’s Willawarrin Mass will

be this Thursday, 21 October at 6pm (not on 28

October as previously scheduled).

First Reading: Acts 2:1-11

When Pentecost day came round, the apostles had all met in one

room, when suddenly they heard what sounded like a powerful wind

from heaven, the noise of which filled the entire house in which they

were sitting; and something appeared to them that seemed like

tongues of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of

each of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to

speak foreign languages as the Spirit gave them the gift of speech.

Now there were devout men living in Jerusalem from every nation

under heaven, and at this sound they all assembled, each one

bewildered to hear these men speaking his own language. They were

amazed and astonished. ‘Surely’ they said ‘all these men speaking

are Galileans? How does it happen that each of us hears them in his

own native language? Parthians, Medes and Elamites; people from

Mesopotamia, Judaea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia

and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya round Cyrene; as well as

visitors from Rome - Jews and proselytes alike - Cretans and Arabs;

we hear them preaching in our own language about the marvels of

God.’

Responsorial Psalm: Ps 103:1. 24. 29-31. 34. R. v.30

(R) Lord, send out your Spirit and renew the face of the earth.

1. Bless the Lord, my soul!

Lord God, how great you are,

How many are your works, O Lord!

The earth is full of your riches. (R)

2. You take back your spirit, they die,

returning to the dust from which they came.

You send forth your spirit, they are created;

and you renew the face of the earth. (R)

3. May the glory of the Lord last for ever!

May the Lord rejoice in his works!

May my thoughts be pleasing to him.

I find my joy in the Lord. (R)

Second Reading: Galatians 5:16-25

If you are guided by the Spirit you will be in no danger of yielding to

self-indulgence, since self-indulgence is the opposite of the Spirit,

the Spirit is totally against such a thing, and it is precisely because

the two are so opposed that you do not always carry out your good

intentions. If you are led by the Spirit, no law can touch you. When

self-indulgence is at work the results are obvious: fornication, gross

indecency and sexual irresponsibility; idolatry and sorcery; feuds and

wrangling, jealousy, bad temper and quarrels; disagreements,

factions, envy; drunkenness, orgies and similar things. I warn you

now, as I warned you before: those who behave like this will not

inherit the kingdom of God. What the Spirit brings is very different:

love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustfulness,

gentleness and self-control. There can be no law against things like

that, of course. You cannot belong to Christ Jesus unless you crucify

all self-indulgent passions and desire.

Since the Spirit is our life, let us be directed by the Spirit.

Gospel Acclamation

Alleluia, alleluia!

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful

and kindle in them the fire of your love. Alleluia!

Gospel: John 15:26-27; 16:12-15

Jesus said to his disciples:

‘When the Advocate comes,

whom I shall send to you from the Father,

the Spirit of truth who issues from the Father,

he will be my witness.

And you too will be witnesses,

because you have been with me from the outset.

I still have many things to say to you

but they would be too much for you now.

But when the Spirit of truth comes

he will lead you to the complete truth,

since he will not be speaking as from himself
