STEWARDSHIP RELFECTIONS
“...be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient…” 2 TIMOTHY 4:2 It is not always convenient to be a good steward, especially when all the temptations of our busy and materialistic world get in the way. Now add our own pride and ego into the equation and living a stewardship lifestyle may be downright uncomfort-able! Remember, God didn’t call us to be comfort-able. He called us to be faithful.
DYNAMIC CATHOLIC, ALIVE! Pray Always. There’s really only one way to learn to “pray always”: first we must learn to pray today”! Instead of spending our waking moments interiorly talking only to “ourselves,” let our thoughts begin to stretch, reaching out so that we’re talking to God instead! After all, at Baptism, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within us—why not spend some quality time in conversation with our closest Guest? Pray today—a simple but essential step on the path to-ward God. CATECHESIS SUNDAY On Catechesis Sunday, October 23rd, there will be a short DVD presentation, WHY DO I NEED THE CHURCH? It will be presented after the 8:30 a.m. Mass in the parish hall. “Some say I’m okay with Jesus, I just don’t like His Church.” You cannot love the King and reject His kingdom, the body of Christ, the communion of saints. Jesus calls us to salvation through communal worship in his Church and the Sacraments His Church dis-penses in His name! NOTE: Catechesis Sunday is moved to the fourth Sunday instead of the normal third Sunday due to Donut Sunday being moved to the third Sunday.
AN EVENING OF FAITH, FELLOWSHIP,
AND FUNDRAISING The National Catholic Partnership on Disability pre-sents: “An Evening of Faith, Fellowship and Fundrais-ing.” The evening will include a special presentation from Gus Lloyd, host of “Seize the Day,” the morning radio show on Sirius XM's The Catholic Channel, au-thor and speaker. Also special messages from John Foppe, author, speaker and Executive Director of the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Louis and John O'Leary, national best selling author and speaker on The event takes place Thursday, November 3rd, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at St. Louis University High School, 4970 Oakland Ave. Please register at www.ncpd.org for this incredible evening!

BAPTISM Congratulations to Felicity Geerling, upon her reception of the Sacrament of Baptism. Through the waters of baptism she has become a beloved child of God and now lives this sacrament by liv-ing Christ. We are blessed as a parish to have this new member of our family. The parish community assures her of their prayers and loving support as she lives her faith.
PARISH PURGATORIAL SOCIETY The Parish Purgatorial Society (PPS) annual enve-lopes can be found on the table in the vestibule. The PPS enrolls the deceased in ALL the Masses throughout the year, Nov. 2, 2016 through Nov. 1, 2017. Return them to the parish office.
MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY Make a Difference Day is the na-tion’s largest day of community service and will be held on Satur-day, October 22nd. Webster Groves has been a part of this effort for many years, which unites volunteers with others in the community that could use a hand with a project such as grass cutting, garage or house cleaning, leaf raking, gardening, etc. (We cannot accommodate requests for home repairs that involve plumb-ing, electrical work, tile, grouting, etc. that require a skilled crafts-man). If you would like some assistance in a project, contact Steve Clark at [email protected], or call 314-963-5623, and we will assign someone or a group to your project.
Dear Friends in Christ, It is remarkable that we celebrate the 90th anniversary of World Mission Sunday in this, the Year of Mercy. The Gospel calls us to bring the Good News to all nations, showing mercy and offering salvation to all humanity. In his message for World Mission Sunday, celebrated next weekend, Oc-tober 23rd, Pope Francis wrote: “When mercy encounters a person, it brings deep joy to the Father’s heart; for from the beginning the Father has lovingly turned towards the most vulnerable, because His greatness and power are revealed precisely in His capacity to identify with the young, the marginalized and the oppressed (cf. Deut 4:31; Ps 86:15; 103:8; 111:4)… All peoples and cultures have the right to receive the message of salvation which is God’s gift to every per-son. This is all the more necessary when we consider how many injus-tices, wars, and humanitarian crises still need resolution. Missionaries know from experience that the Gospel of forgiveness and mercy can bring joy and reconciliation, justice and peace.” Many living in over 1,111 mission territories worldwide will only encounter Christ through the work of missionaries. These men and women tirelessly proclaim the Gospel, baptize new believers, celebrate the Eucharist, and care for their flocks, in all circumstances. While many of us cannot travel to the ends of the earth to share the Gospel, we can foster a missionary spirit and offer generously our prayers and support. As Pope Francis states: “Let us not close our hearts within our own particular concerns, but let us open them to all of humanity.” Please prayerfully consider making a generous sacrificial offering on Octo-ber 23rd for World Mission Sunday to show God’s great mercy to all ends of the earth. Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson, Archbishop of St. Louis
