World Mission Sunday Collection This week, our second collection will be for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. Your donation today helps re-store the Church and build the future in 20 countries, many of which still struggle to recover in the aftermath of Soviet rule. Funds from this collection help support reconstruction, education, formation, and poverty outreach. For more in-formation, please visit www.usccb.org/ccee. Thank you for your generosity. Each October, this celebration leads us to the heart of our Christian faith – leads us to mission, as Pope Francis explains. On World Mission Sunday, we are called—as baptized Catholics—to celebrate and support local churches in Asia and Africa, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe, an area that covers more than half the territory of the globe. Through the work and witness of mission priests, religious, and lay leaders, the poor receive practical help and experience God’s love and mercy, His hope and peace. This year, we are invited as well into a special opportunity to engage with Pope Francis and learn more about his missions. To do so, visit ChatWithThePope.org.

Annual Collection We are very grateful for the generosity shown

by so many to our 2017 Annual Gift. If you have not yet had an opportunity to return your pledge card, please do so as soon as possi-ble. Every gift is welcomed and sincerely appreciated. Thank you.

Apex International Education Partners

A welcoming family is needed to host International students that will attend a private middle and high school in your area, arriving in mid-January and mid August 2018. Interested Host Families would be required to provide their stu-dent with meals, transportation to/from school (busing and carpooling where

available), and a private bedroom. To offset the costs of hosting, a generous monthly stipend in the aount of $1,000 per student is offered. Host families may host up to 2 stu-dents of the same gender. If you are interested in learning more about becoming an AIEP host family, please contact Daisy Benson, Local Coordinator Supervisor at 203-518-1412 or [email protected]. Please mention you saw this notice or heard about AIEP through our church. For every family that signs up with AIEP, accepted into the program and assigned a student, AIEP will give our church a $500 referral.

We welcome to our Parish family, Chloe Aurora Bronson, Landon Spencer Bronson, Emelina Rose Salvatore and Juliette Normarie Crespo. They were baptized at the Basilica on October 15. Congratulations to their families.

Afternoon of Reflection We would like to extend an invitation to all of our stu-dents receiving the sacrament of Confirmation on November 5th, to attend an afternoon of reflection on Friday, October 27th, from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm. The afternoon of reflection will be lead by Bryan Mercier, a well know Catholic speaker who wants to help people encounter Christ in a real way and help them to know, love, and live their Catholic faith with purpose and passion every day, especially young people who are walking away from the faith in droves. The topics of our afternoon of reflection are: "What Can God Do For Me?" and "Getting Right With God: Forgiveness, Healing, and Happiness!" At the end of the day of reflection, the sacrament of Confession will be available for all the students.

Prayer for the Canonization of our Parish Son, The Venerable Michael J. McGivney

God, our Father, protector of the poor, and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGiv-ney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we fol-low your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and

building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspi-ration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glo-rify your servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth ac-cording to the design of your holy will. Through his in-tercession, grant the favor, I now present (here make your request). Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Many courageous people during the Holocaust risked their liberty and their lives to help the persecuted Jews escape the torture that awaited them if Nazi soldiers found them. Marsia Pawlina Szul was one such person. This play is the story of her courage in harboring a mother, her newborn boy, young daughter, and another young Jewish girl. Pawlina led the Nazi solders away from the family, hiding in a homemade bunker in their barn for two years. When she was discovered, she suf-fered unspeakable torture by the Nazis, yet she remained silent.

Angel in the Night is the winner of the American Alliance for Theater and Education’s Distin-guished Play Award. This play is inspiring, even more so because it is based on the real actions of one brave young Polish woman. The characters are loveable— we suffer with them through-

out the play-and we are grateful to learn of love, respect, and adoration the Jewish characters feel for Pawlina, their savior during World War II. She is honored now in the Avenue of the Righteous Parks found outside Jerusalem and in Evanston, Illinois. Don’t miss your chance to see Connecticut’s award-winning high school theaters’ production of this true store of courage, compassion and heroism!

Angel in the Night opens on Friday, November 10th and runs through Sunday, November 12th at the St. Paul Catholic High School’s Theater. Performances are at 7:00 P.M. on Friday and Saturday and 2:00 P.M. on Sunday.

Tickets may be reserved and purchased online at www.spchs.com, Tickets are $8 students, $15 adults, $12 over 65. You can purchase by phone: 860-584-0911

Warning: This moving performance is not suitable for very young children. We recommend knowing if your child has had an introduction to the Holocaust in school.

The Legion of Mary….meets every Tuesday afternoon at 3:45 P.M. in McGivney Hall.

Saint Mary School News

Congratulations to our September students of the month!

Who is Jesus? Just ask our 3rd graders!

What is Giving Tuesday?... Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Giving Tues-day…..created in 2012 in response to the shopping frenzy of the holidays, Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving meant to encourage, celebrate and support a season of giving. Celebrated the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, this year November 28, people are encouraged to participate by giving back to their local communi-ties. This year Saint Mary School will be launching a Giving Tuesday campaign

which will enable us to grow our programs and provide the needed classroom technology, tuition assistance for families in need, and professional development and materials to better grow our STREAM program. Please save the date and spread the word.

All Souls Remembrance Thursday, November 2, 2017

5:30 P.M. Mass There will be a special “Memorial Candle Lighting” and the names of those whose funeral rites were cele-brated at our parish since All Souls Day 2016 will be read individually from the Book of Remembrance. The Book of Remembrance will remain in the sanctuary for the month of November. Our devotion to the faithful departed goes back to the first century. The early Christians would gather regularly at the burial place of their loved ones to pray and celebrate Holy Mass for the repose of their souls. We continue this devotion because we continue to love them and profess our faith in the power of prayer, the Holy Mass, and the power of Christ’s Resurrection.

During the month of November we remember the souls of those who have died. Please place the names of loved ones on the All Souls envelope and they will be remembered at the Masses during the month of November.
